Chapter 162 I Can't Let Her Lose the Baby

Victoria Kensington, flushed with embarrassment, swiftly averted her gaze and made her exit. Alexander Harrington, observing her retreat, nonchalantly allowed the elevator doors to slide shut.

Inside the executive elevator, Victoria remained standing off to one side. Alexander, in his charact eristic posture with hands on hips, sauntered over to her, his long strides effortlessly closing the distance. His composure was a constant, a trait that seemed as inherent as his imposing presence.

Victoria, on the other hand, couldn't summon the courage to meet his gaze, barely allowing herself to breathe too deeply. She stood there, her heart pounding in her chest, shrinking into herself in an attempt to be as inconspicuous as possible. She yearned to be so insignificant that he wouldn't notice her.

"How was the wine I sent last night?" he asked.

The question caused her heart to constrict, making it difficult for her to breathe. Her mind began to race. Was it possible that the bottle of wine had been sent by him through Benjamin Beaumont? The implications...

"Do you think I'm the devil, hiding under the table at the sight of me?" he continued.

Victoria tightened her grip on her purse, her knuckles turning white. Irritated, Alexander seized her wrist, prying her hand from the strap. "Victoria Kensington, look at me," he demanded.

She kept her gaze lowered, refusing to meet his eyes, especially not now. In response, Alexander cradled her face, tilting her head back. The sudden movement caused her to stumble, her balance compromised, and her hands instinctively grasped the railings behind her for support.

Alexander looked down into her clear, unsettled eyes, his voice resonating in the confined space, "So it's your three refusals with me? No seeing, no listening, no believing?"

She remained silent, not understanding his reference to three refusals.

"Now you won't even speak? Because of me taking her to the hospital last night?" he pressed.

Victoria remained silent, but gradually, the panic began to ebb away.

"I couldn't let her lose the baby," he said again.

The elevator bell chimed, signaling their arrival. The doors slid open, and Alexander glanced outside. Victoria, however, continued to look at him. He had finally admitted it, and with such conviction.

"Mr. Harrington, you have a meeting in thirty minutes," she said, her voice steady, fulfilling her duty as his secretary.

Alexander finally looked at her again, his eyes squinting with a hint of amusement. "You truly live up to the secretary handpicked for me by the family matriarch herself, always so dedicated to your duties."

With that, he released her and strode out of the elevator, his demeanor as cool as ever.

Victoria lowered her gaze, watching him leave before letting out a silent sigh of relief. She then followed him out of the elevator.

"Good morning, Mr. Harrington," Jasmine greeted, rising to her feet as she saw Alexander pass by.

Catching sight of the flushed woman trailing behind him, Jasmine couldn't help but let her imagination run wild.

---

By the time Jasmine had finished her morning tasks, it was nearly eleven a.m. She was about to suggest a place for lunch when Victoria's phone rang.

As Victoria answered the call, the office door of their boss swung open nearby.

The tall figure of Alexander Harrington emerged just as he heard her soft voice utter a name.

"Hello, Chen Zhou."

"I'm so bored. Want to come and visit me on set?"

Arthen surveyed his bustling surroundings, feeling incredibly alone. Some people seemed so close physically, yet they were worlds apart. He missed her. He missed her with a hollow, breath-stealing intensity that made him feel like he might collapse if he didn't see her in the next moment.

But there were things he hesitated to say to her again.

"I'm quite busy lately, I probably won't be able to make it," Victoria responded.

"We're still friends, right?" Arthen asked cautiously, vowing not to scare her with inappropriate emotions anymore.

"Of course, we've always been good friends," Victoria replied, then noticed a figure walking past her and instinctively looked up.

"Aren't you idle?" Alexander asked coldly before turning and walking away.
