Chapter 646 Fall And Compromise
Victoria was already dazed from Alexander's kiss.
He continued in an enchanting voice, "Baby, I'll find another way to make you happy."
Actually, the doctor didn't say they couldn't have sex, just remind them to be careful.
However, Alexander really believed it, so she didn't say anything more.
In some ways, Victoria felt that the less they had sex, the more rational they might be.
However, he gently yet expertly pressed her into the couch, teasing her with deliberate precision.
Victoria couldn't help but hook her arms around his neck. "Let's go to the bedroom."
"Why?"
"Let's do it on the bed," Victoria murmured.
"Not watching the movie?"
"If you planned to do that."
"I didn't." Alexander placed the strawberries from the floor onto the table, then picked her up from the couch and immediately headed upstairs
It was as if he was taking her to do something grand and urgent.
Victoria gazed at him with clear eyes, unable to resist the desire to spend her entire life with him like this moment.
She thought, 'How perfect would it be if there were no other people in our world?
'Maybe he wouldn't grow bored of me so quickly. We could have a few years of happiness together or even end up like our elders, growing old side by side.
'I've heard that some couples start off with little affection, but as the years go by, they become increasingly dependent on each other.
'Who knows, maybe one day he won't be able to live without me?'
She couldn't help but bury her face in his chest, holding him tightly. "Alexander."
"What's wrong?"
"What should I do with you?"
The question lingered in her mind, but she couldn't bring herself to voice it.
Loving someone like him seemed destined to be a test of endurance.
Victoria even felt like giving up the struggle. After all, she was carrying their child.
She thought, 'Why can we just try a little harder?
'Anyway, the recent troubles were Isabella's doing, not his mistake.
'Is it really fair to blame him?
'He loved me.
'He's said it himself.'
As Alexander laid her gently on the bed, she wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered, "Do you still love me?"
"Forever."
Alexander's tender eyes met hers as he spoke, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead before moving on to her brows, her nose, and finally her lips.
She thought, 'Forever?'
The word felt like a jolt of energy.
Victoria couldn't help but kiss him back, her passion growing.
Yes, she had given in.
She hoped they wouldn't repeat the past's misfortunes.
She thought, 'One goes through hardships, but surely it can't be endless misery?
'Fate might have many stories to tell, but it shouldn't be all suffering for one person.'
She couldn't help but kiss Alexander more fervently, becoming more enthusiastic with each touch.
"Shall we switch our rings? she asked softly.
"Yes."
He agreed, and it was something he had been hoping for as well.
So, after a night of tender pleasures, he took the ring off his neck once more.
Holding her close, he carefully slipped the ring onto her finger and couldn't resist kissing her hand.
Victoria, taking the ring from his palm, paused as she was about to place it on her finger. With a gentle, mischievous look, she asked, "Will you love me forever, always? Aside from our parents, am I and our baby the most important people in your life?"
"No," Alexander smiled.
The instant Victoria heard that "no," a rush of anxiety washed over her.
The atmosphere in the room grew tense, each moment hanging in the air, waiting for him to continue.
Victoria felt like she couldn't breathe until he finally said, "You and our baby are my most important people. Everyone else has their own partner to love."
His words felt like a revelation, suggesting that the three of them created a complete family.
She thought, 'So, does that mean I finally have a home again?'
With newfound courage, she slipped the ring onto his finger and impulsively wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her face in his chest. "Alexander, you jerk."
The words tumbled out in a jumbled mess, but he only held her tighter.
"From now on, you and our baby are my everything. I don't want you making promises."
Victoria looked up, her eyes glistening with unshed tears as she gazed at Alexander.
She felt like she was losing her mind, succumbing to the fleeting warmth of his affection once again.
She knew deep down that these words might not hold tomorrow—but still, she said that.
She insisted she didn't want his promises, yet it felt like she had branded those very words in the most sacred part of her heart.
She wondered if other girls felt like this, swept away so easily, unable to resist. She'd seen countless movies where women left men they loved deeply, yet they moved on with such grace.
But she felt different—trapped in a whirlwind of emotions.
That night, she had a vivid dream. It was pouring rain, and she found herself at sea, with Alexander standing right in front of her, but turned away, boarding another ship.
"Alexander!"
She called out, urgency lacing her voice. "Where are you going?"
He didn't turn around, as if he hadn't heard her. The ship sailed away, leaving her alone on hers. Suddenly, a thunderous crash echoed behind her. When she turned, monstrous waves surged forth, and instinctively, she clutched her growing belly, stepping backward.
The next thing she knew, the boat capsized.
Victoria awoke with a start as dawn broke, the sound of real rain drumming against the window.
But she was still at home, nestled in the warmth of their bed.
As she turned to glance at the man sleeping beside her, relief washed over her. Yet, her gaze kept drifting to the rain pelting against the window.
She thought, 'Was it the rain that had prompted such a disturbing dream?
Victoria carefully removed his hand from her and quietly slipped out of bed. She moved to the window and peered outside.
The rain had clearly been falling for a while now, with water pooling on the ground.
Her heart pounded heavily, the sensation so intense it was almost painful, but she fought to keep her anxiety in check.
She told herself, "Victoria, don't be afraid. Don't let your mind run wild. No one can hurt you."
Still, her self-reassurance didn't quite take hold; she remained unsettled.
After what felt like an eternity, she slumped against the window, her strength waning. Gentle hands then settled on her shoulders.
Turning around, Victoria found Alexander, dressed in matching pajamas, standing beside her. She spoke softly, "Don't you want to sleep a little longer?"
"I do, but only if you're here with me." His voice was soothing as he lifted her off the ground.
Noticing the concern in her eyes, he asked softly, "Did you have a nightmare?"
"No," she replied automatically, but her resistance crumbled under his penetrating gaze.
She pressed against his chest. "We're not going to drift apart, are we?"
"I promise," he assured her, doing his best to ease her worries.
Victoria nestled closer, seeking comfort and trying to silence her overactive thoughts.
Pregnancy had made her unusually sleepy, and with the warmth of his embrace, it wasn't long before she drifted back to sleep.
Around ten o'clock, Alexander lay beside her, gently stroking her shoulder to keep her in a peaceful slumber. With his other hand, he held his phone, staring at an unfamiliar number that had just appeared on the screen.
