Chapter 545 "You Were Secretly Trying to Conceive, Is That True?"
Victoria tore her gaze from Janaye's figure and reluctantly gripped the doorknob, telling herself to stay calm and composed like a professional.
She pushed open the door.
It wasn't as hard as she thought it would be.
She didn't have those silly fantasies about him anymore like she did last year. She didn't feel wronged either. She stood there, cool and collected.
"Mr. Harrington," she said softly.
Alexander stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, engrossed in his phone. He looked at her briefly with disinterest and nodded briefly.
Victoria thought, 'What are you pretending for now? We clearly saw each other last night.'
Even though they were a bit far apart, she knew they both saw each other.
"We had an appointment for ten in the morning," Alexander mentioned casually, still staring at his phone.
Victoria's heart tightened, but she managed to stay calm. "I was filming and didn't have my phone with me."
She couldn't see Alexander's slightly raised eyebrow. "Let's start now."
Alexander suddenly walked inside. Victoria held her breath until he sat on the sofa. Only then did she quietly exhale.
'If I can still have feelings for him after seeing such things, I must be asking for trouble,' she thought.
"Please sit," Alexander said, not looking up.
Victoria walked over with her bag and saw the snacks and milk tea on the table, feeling a pang in her heart.
'Did he prepare these for me?' she wondered.
"The afternoon client ordered them. Janaye forgot to clear them," Alexander said indifferently.
'So it's just my wishful thinking,' Victoria thought, feeling a bit more relaxed. She sat down beside him.
Alexander finally looked up at her, but Victoria kept her head down, staring at the table.
"Are you hungry?" he asked.
Victoria shook her head. "No, let's get down to business."
Alexander insisted on talking face-to-face with her.
She had originally planned to ask Shoure for help directly.
"You come back to be my secretary, and I'll take care of the cemetery issue," Alexander said in a very businesslike manner.
Victoria laughed. "How is that possible?"
"Why not?"
"Even if I agreed, what about Janaye?"
Alexander snorted. "With her forgetful nature, do you think she got this job on her own?"
Victoria bowed her head again, not contemplating a return as she had finally escaped and would never go back.
Seeing her staring at the milk tea, Alexander leaned over, opened the straw, and handed it to her. "Drink it. No one has touched it."
Victoria was surprised but still expressed her gratitude. "I can't have sweets, thank you."
Alexander frowned and scrutinized her. 'Can't she even have sweets now? What's so great about being a celebrity?' he thought.
Victoria didn't expect him to stare at her. She glanced at him and then quickly looked down, softly asking, "Isn't the cemetery issue just a matter of following procedures?"
Alexander didn't answer her, just half-closed his eyes and kept looking at her.
Victoria's hair covered her pretty face, making her look like a ghost.
As Victoria was confused, Alexander stood up suddenly, making her heart race. She followed suit. "Mr. Harrington, can't you just let me follow the procedures like everyone else?"
'Does he have to make things difficult for me?' she thought.
Alexander didn't speak, just took a black hair tie from the drawer.
When he sat back down, he placed the hair tie on the table and reminded her, "Tie your hair up."
Victoria asked, "Tie it up and you'll let me follow the procedures like everyone else?"
"Tie it up first," Alexander said impatiently.
Victoria immediately reached for the hair tie.
But as she took it, she suddenly felt uneasy. 'Could this be something another woman used?' she wondered.
Alexander just stared at Victoria. They were sitting far apart, but he still saw her gather her hair.
Victoria had just gotten used to the pain in her face. When she tied her hair, her thumb accidentally poked her cheek, and she froze.
Besides the pain, her face felt hot.
Alexander suddenly said, "Lift your head."
Victoria kept her head down, silent and unwilling to look up, her hands still behind her head.
Her hair fell loose again. She placed the hair tie aside and stood up. "We'll talk another day."
Alexander threatened, "If you leave now, I can make sure you never see your parents' gravestones again."
Victoria stopped. She turned around to see his cold, piercing gaze and, swallowing her anger, sat back down and picked up the hair tie to tie her hair.
"Today was a fight scene," she responded coldly as if it didn't matter at all.
"As long as you enjoy it," Alexander sneered, then looked away.
Victoria didn't know why she felt a lump in her throat.
'Who enjoys getting hit?' she thought.
But tomorrow, it would be Victoria's turn to hit Nicole Saunders, who played the supporting female role, so she told herself not to care.
'It's just acting, making so much money. What's a few slaps?' she pondered.
Victoria decided to cut to the chase. "Let's get straight to the point. What do you want?"
Alexander's sharp gaze fixed on her, a look that told Victoria he would do whatever he wanted.
He suddenly asked, "Am I just a jerk in your eyes?"
Victoria looked at him, puzzled. 'Yes, you are,' she thought.
"So everything before last Christmas was fake?" Alexander's deep voice was stifled and restrained.
"Yes." Victoria lowered her head, clenching her hands.
Victoria didn't know why he suddenly brought this up. She thought he already understood.
That day, she asked Alexander if hell would be too crowded, and he left within minutes.
He clearly knew she had seen everything.
Alexander asked again, "Olivia said you were secretly trying to get pregnant. Is that true?"
Victoria looked at him, memories of that unrealistic, dreamy period flooding her mind.
That was the happiest time of her life in recent years, but it was just a dream.
Victoria couldn't help but choke up, then looked down and softly said, "Just kidding."
During that time, Eloise kept talking to Victoria about having children, and Victoria genuinely wanted to have a baby with Alexander.
Victoria had no ambition for her career. She just wanted to marry and have children with someone she loved.
If it weren't for that night, maybe she would be heavily pregnant by now or even about to give birth.
But in reality, she was still a virgin.
"So it was a joke," Alexander murmured, not saying anything for a long time.
The sky had darkened, but the large office remained unlit.
The coffee on the table seemed to be slowly passing its expiration date. They hadn't spoken for a long time.
After a while, Alexander looked at Victoria's face, then suddenly stood up, about to find something, but the door was knocked again.
He looked towards the door.
"Hey, Alexander, I'm here to wait for you to get off work. Felicity is here too," Tessa said.
Victoria also stood up politely, nodding to greet Tessa.
Alexander frowned. "What are you doing here?"
Tessa winked at Victoria and said to Alexander, "What's wrong with picking up my husband from work?"
Alexander looked at Tessa's expression, then turned to look at Victoria.
Victoria just smiled. "Since Mrs. Harrington is here, why don't we all talk together?"
With Tessa here, Victoria felt much more relaxed.
Alexander couldn't torment her under the guise of business in front of Tessa.
Tessa walked over to them. Seeing Victoria's face, she couldn't help but get nervous. "Felicity, what happened to your face? Did Alexander hit you?"
Tessa, in disbelief, covered her mouth as she looked at Alexander, who stood beside Victoria.
Alexander suddenly said, "I'll take care of your parents' matters. You can go now."
Victoria smiled. "Really? Then I won't bother you."
'As expected, with Tessa here, Alexander doesn't dare to entangle with me. They have just gotten married, and Alexander has to keep up appearances for a while,' Victoria thought.
Victoria prepared to leave quickly.
"Victoria." But she had only taken a few steps when she was called back.
That voice was commanding.
