Chapter 179 Might Mrs. Harrington Resort to Such Enchanting Maneuvers?

"What does that have to do with me?" Victoria retorted, her voice echoing in the room. "What are your thoughts, Victoria?" The question hung in the air, a challenge waiting to be met.

"I don't want to—it feels unfair to me," she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Is it fair to me?" he volleyed back, his tone laced with a hint of bitterness.

Victoria was left speechless. Unfair to him? Where was the injustice in his situation? After all, he had been involved in a vague relationship with Isabella Montgomery.

"Regardless, I don't want to. You promised to wait until it's confirmed that the child isn't yours before deciding our next move," she reminded him, her voice fading with each word, as if she was running out of energy to argue.

"Announcing our relationship has nothing to do with that child," he stated, his voice firm and unwavering.

"How can it not?" she protested, her voice rising in disbelief.

"So, Victoria, what does it have to do with?" he challenged, his gaze never leaving hers.

"It does, if nothing else, people won't know I've been cuckolded," she admitted, her voice barely audible.

"Why don't you admit you're worried about remarrying later?" he suggested, his tone mocking.

"I..." she began, but words failed her.

"You said that yourself last time," he reminded her, his voice cold and distant.

Victoria was left without a counter-argument, her frustration simmering beneath the surface.

"Handle this matter first thing when you start work; put everything else aside," he instructed, his tone as serious as if he were discussing a business matter.

Victoria wanted to argue, but announcing their marriage now didn't seem right.

After breakfast, she left the house with him. In the elevator, she finally convinced herself to swallow her pride, gently tugging at his sleeve.

Alexander Harrington looked down and then turned to face the woman behind him, her face a mix of pouty and pitiful. "What's wrong?"

"Just don't talk about it right now," she pleaded, her eyes misting over.

Appearing vulnerable and pleading was the only tactic she could think of.

It tugged at Alexander Harrington's heartstrings, and he said softly, "Okay."

Immediately, Victoria Kensington's mood lifted. "Thank you."

But Alexander instantly regretted it. The woman who had just been all pathetic suddenly perked up like this.

Was he being played?

Did women still use those kinds of seductive tricks in his family?

He quickly spun around to face her. "How will you thank me?"

Victoria looked puzzled. "Huh?"

How would she thank him? She had already expressed her gratitude verbally.

But then Alexander pinned her against the wall, gazing at the blush rising on her face. He spoke in a deep voice, "I'm looking for something more substantial as a thank you."

"Oh, shall I buy you a gift sometime?"

"That sounds like a hassle."

A hassle? Then she wouldn't thank him at all.

It was his duty to cooperate with her anyway.

Unexpectedly, he cupped her face in his hands.

Hmm, he had kissed her again.

She silently vowed to herself that she would never let him kiss her again.

After a gentle kiss, Alexander couldn't help but chuckle at her displeased expression. "Don't forget to buy the gift."

Who does this?

Wasn't that kiss the thank you he wanted?

Now he's asking for a gift too?

Victoria Kensington felt utterly exasperated, feeling like she was always being controlled by him.

Upon reaching the company parking lot, she got out of the car and wanted to sprint away.

"Don't forget your ankle is still swollen," Alexander Harrington reminded her earnestly.

Victoria had no choice but to walk sluggishly, her ankle throbbing with pain once again.

"Alex."

The two were about to walk away when a person getting out of a car nearby stopped them in their tracks.

"I made you a lunch with love."

Isabella Montgomery, clad in a white pencil skirt, stepped out of her car and made a beeline for Alexander.

"Was I not clear enough last night?" Alexander asked her.

"Vicky, could you go on to work? I need to speak to your brother alone for a moment."

Isabella Montgomery immediately looped her arm through Alexander Harrington's with a smile and began to chat with him.
