Chapter 43 He Said the Floor is Cold

Victoria paused for a moment, but quickly reached out to find the door handle. After fumbling for it, she managed to open the door. Alexander couldn't help but chuckle as he carried her in.
"Miss Kensington?" Alexander’s assistant muttered under her breath as the door closed from the inside. The woman looked like Miss Kensington, but... Why would Miss Kensington be dressed in pajamas and slippers? And...
Her slipper finally fell off as they entered the office. "Put me down,” she softly said.
She didn't dare to shout here, afraid that people outside would hear. But his assistant had just seen them... A loud buzzing sound filled her head. She felt like she was doomed. Would she become the object of scorn in the entire company from today on?
"Your shoe fell off. The floor is cold," he said, not putting her down, but seemingly with a tone of concern.
Victoria was a bit stunned. "I don't need your concern; put me down."
"No." Alexander brought her directly to a door and opened it.
Inside... there was actually a large bed? Victoria had never been here before. The boss' office had been sitting idle for two years.
Victoria thought he was crazy. After being put on the bed, she quickly crawled up and shrank into a corner, "Get out."
"I'm not leaving." Alexander seemed a bit unhappy.
Why was he always being driven away?
"Get out!" Victoria yelled again.
"I'm not leaving. Besides, you'd better change your clothes quickly and then get me a new shirt," Alexander said, lowering his head to look at his own shirt.
There was a slight crease on his chest; it wasn’t even really noticeable. What was more concerning was the unknown substance from her smeared on it, either snot or tears.
Victoria looked at him guardedly, but still glanced at the box not far away. It should contain the clothes he had asked someone to bring for her.
"You go out first; I'll change my clothes and then help you make a call."
"Just change your clothes." He simply sat down on the edge of the bed, leaned forward, elbows on his thighs, and then turned his eyes to quickly scan her.

"It's important to maintain personal boundaries, isn't it?"
"That applies to outsiders. We are husband and wife."
Victoria opened her mouth slightly but couldn't say a word. She almost lost her breath because of what he said. They were husband and wife? Huh! What sort of husband had a child with another woman? What was the big deal, right? She looked away, trying to calm herself down, and then said to him in a sweet voice, "Please go out first."
"I haven't had breakfast, haven't taken any fever reducers, my temperature is over 100.4°F, my wife is right next to me but doesn't say a word of concern, keeps yelling at me, and driving me away. Do you think I still have the strength to step out of this room after all this?"
Victoria only then remembered that he had a fever and looked at him again. Alexander was pressing hard on his forehead with his thumb.
Oh, there was still a bit of a funny star on his forehead that she had pinched... Hehehe... She didn't do it on purpose; he insisted on her help. But he hadn't discovered it yet; would he want to hit her when he found out?
Victoria pursed her lips, thinking about his potential fury made her forget everything else.
Soon, the office door rang again. Alexander sighed and still politely said, "Come in."
"Mr. Harrington, your breakfast is here." It was a familiar voice; the person seemed to stay outside the lounge, not coming in.
"Okay, bring it in..."
"Leave it outside." She rushed to his side, covering his mouth softly.
Alexander's breath was blocked; he turned to look at the woman covering his mouth and suddenly smiled.
