Chapter 710 It Was My Mistake
"Let her in."
Alexander snapped his gaze away from the lounge.
"Alex?"
Before Daisy even stepped into the room, her bubbly voice was already echoing through the office.
She did it on purpose, knowing Victoria was in there.
Daisy thought, 'Well, they are divorced anyway.'
Alexander scowled at her voice and said, "Who are you calling?"
"I'm asking you, Alex, where's your Ms. Kensington?"
Daisy didn't see anyone in the office and figured Eve was still outside, so Victoria must still be around.
Alexander caught how she addressed Victoria and kept his icy stare on her, "Have a seat."
Daisy was buzzing inside; he was actually asking her to sit down.
Before, he wouldn't even let her in. Was he finally moved by her persistence?
Eve and Janaye were outside, and Janaye grumbled, "Actually, Mr. Harrington never called Daisy to the office before."
Eve was curious but kept quiet.
When the lounge door was knocked, Victoria had just sat up, waiting for the dizziness from her low blood sugar to pass.
"Strawberry..."
Alexander gently pushed the door open, about to speak, but seeing the two people on the bed, he immediately shut his mouth.
Victoria slowly raised her eyes and said, "What's up?"
"Come out."
Alexander quickly and coldly ordered.
Victoria didn't argue, turned around to tuck Strawberry in, and got up to leave.
Alexander stood at the door, and after she came out, he quietly closed it.
Victoria saw Daisy sitting on the sofa, and Daisy saw her too. Daisy waved from the sofa, "Hey, we meet again."
Victoria turned to him and asked, "Should I keep an eye on Strawberry?"
"There’s a document I think Janaye messed up. Can you check it?"
Victoria was surprised, but he was already guiding her forward by the elbow.
Later, he really handed her a document.
She sat beside him, seriously reviewing it, with Alexander right next to her.
This meant the three of them were on the same sofa, with Victoria in the middle.
He always sat alone on a sofa, and the place where he usually sat was the one closest to Daisy now.
Daisy felt a bit let down.
"Ms. Bryant, what do you like to drink? Coffee or juice?"
Alexander asked, sounding concerned.
Daisy was a bit flattered, saying, "Coffee is fine."
"Then do you prefer Americano, Cappuccino, or something else?"
Alexander continued to ask, all considerate.
Daisy said dreamily, "Americano."
Daisy thought to herself, 'Successful women are said to prefer Americano.'
Alexander looked down at Victoria, who was seriously reviewing the document, and couldn't help but frown, saying, "What do you want to drink?"
Victoria didn't seem to hear him until his hand was about to rest on her shoulder. She calmly replied, "No need, thank you."
Alexander stared at her, then smiled indifferently and asked Janaye to make the coffee.
Janaye made both Americano and Cappuccino.
Of course, the Cappuccino was for Victoria, and the Americano was placed in front of Daisy, "Ms. Bryant, enjoy."
"Thank you."
Daisy responded and then picked up the coffee.
"Our company's coffee is pretty good. Ms. Bryant, you should try it."
"Okay."
Daisy thought Alexander was acting really different today.
Nevertheless, she only took a tiny sip and immediately made a face like she bit into a lemon.
"Ms. Bryant, don't you like it?"
Alexander stared at her and asked.
"No, I like it a lot."
Daisy didn't dare admit she hated it and forced herself to keep drinking.
She swore she had never tasted coffee this bitter in her life.
"This contract seems fine."
Victoria finally finished reviewing the document and turned to Alexander, who had been fussing over Daisy, and said.
"Look again carefully. By the way, Ms. Bryant, if you're free at noon, I'd like to invite you to lunch."
"Sure, I have time."
Daisy was so excited she almost jumped out of her seat.
"Alright then, Ms. Kensington, could you help take care of my daughter this afternoon?"
Alexander looked down at Victoria and said.
Victoria felt his tone was off.
When she first came in, he talked to her like she was a nanny, but now he sounded even weirder.
Victoria looked up, met his gaze, then lowered her head to review the document again, calmly replying, "Okay."
"You won't take the opportunity of my date to run off with Strawberry, will you?"
Who would have thought he'd say that out of nowhere?
Victoria almost couldn't focus on the document. She eventually gave up, closed it gently, and looked up at Alexander with a smile, "Mr. Harrington, you're overthinking."
Of course, she would run off with Strawberry.
Otherwise, was she really going to stay there and listen to his sarcastic remarks?
"Forget it, I still don't feel at ease. You take Strawberry and come with us, but you and Strawberry can sit at a separate table."
Victoria looked at him, confused.
Daisy was also a bit puzzled.
"Ms. Bryant, you wouldn't mind, right? I don't want to lose Strawberry because of a date."
Alexander patiently asked Daisy.
Daisy said with a beaming smile, "Of course, it's fine. I know you love Strawberry."
"Ms. Bryant, you're so understanding. I'm sure you'll be a great mother in the future."
Alexander's eyes carried a hint of a smile as he complimented.
Victoria's heart skipped a beat.
Was he looking for a stepmother for her Strawberry?
Victoria instinctively glanced at Daisy, feeling uneasy for some reason.
The document was fine, and Alexander frowned when he saw she couldn't find any issues. He asked, "Haven't you found the problem yet? Didn't you see there's a zero missing here?"
His long, sexy finger pointed at a string of numbers.
Victoria instinctively looked down, carefully counted the numbers, then turned to him and asked, "How many zeros should there be?"
"Nine."
"There are nine."
Victoria patiently replied.
Alexander suddenly leaned in and asked, "Really?"
Victoria instinctively held her breath and moved slightly to the side. Seeing him seriously counting, his long eyelashes, her heart inexplicably skipped a beat.
"So it was my mistake. I almost thought I finally found an excuse to fire Janaye."
Alexander said, looking very displeased.
Victoria looked at his dissatisfied expression, not knowing why her emotions were so turbulent inside.
Everything was over.
He was no longer her husband.
She definitely could let go.
Alexander looked up, staring straight at Victoria, and softly said, "I must have other ways to fire Janaye, right? She often makes mistakes."
