Chapter 746 You're getting better and better at lying
Alexander's phone buzzed on the table. He got up to grab it, his face getting more serious by the second.
He glanced at Victoria sitting in the chair. Just as she was about to stand, he casually grabbed her arm and pushed her back down, making sure she stayed put.
"I got it. Hanging up now."
Alexander quickly ended the call, set the phone back down, and turned to Victoria, letting out a mocking laugh.
"Alexander, you..."
"You said you went to the court yourself to check our divorce records?"
All of Victoria's anger vanished with his calm question, leaving only a growing sense of dread.
Alexander crossed his arms and smirked, "You're getting better and better at lying."
Victoria felt a surge of panic. She needed to get out of there. She quickly got up, but he was right next to her and caught her again.
"Alexander..."
Victoria just wanted to run, but as she asked him to let go, he pulled her onto his lap, leaning her against his chest.
As she looked at him, he stared back at her, all domineering.
Victoria's heart pounded like a drum. She reflexively struggled, but he held her arm tight, making it impossible to move. Then she heard his low, threatening voice, "If you struggle again, I'll make you have another child."
Victoria froze, leaning stiffly against him for a dozen seconds before slowly turning to look at him, whispering, "What did you just say?"
Alexander looked at her innocent, disbelieving eyes, and suddenly felt his heart soften.
Of course, he wouldn't do that.
Given her health condition, it wouldn't be suitable for her to have another child without a year or so of recovery.
And now, as she sat on him, her body deceptively soft against his, he felt his heart grow even softer. Her short hair framed her face, and her eyes, though thin and easily readable.
He said nothing more, just held her in his arms.
Victoria curled up into a small ball, her arms pressed against his chest. She couldn't help but turn her head, even though she couldn't see clearly, and whispered, "Alexander, it was you who didn't want me."
He murmured, "I know."
He remembered letting her go. But in this moment, the weight of his regret was almost unbearable.
Friends always said women needed to be coaxed. He believed he had the ability to make her happy, but that day...
Victoria whispered again, "You can't regret it."
She suddenly had a very bad feeling. She didn't want to repeat the past.
"Can you be quiet for a while, please?"
Alexander whispered, burying his face in her neck. Victoria felt his hot breath and unconsciously quieted down.
But she couldn't help but glance at his drawer.
For some reason, she suddenly felt that there might be something she wanted in his drawer.
Were they really divorced?
After everything that had just happened, her feelings of denial grew stronger.
His phone rang again. He lifted his face, then leaned against her shoulder, whispering, "Answer it for me."
Victoria naturally leaned over to help him get the phone. Seeing the number, she reminded, "It's Daisy."
Alexander said nothing, staring thoughtfully at the phone.
Victoria answered the call but placed the phone to his ear.
Alexander looked at her, then adjusted his hold on her, whispering, "Are you going to hold it to my ear like this the whole time?"
Victoria looked up at him, not understanding how a chair could be so spacious, or how he could always lift her like a small animal so easily. But she didn't say a word, just gave him a look that said it all.
Alexander grinned, then leaned in and gave her a light kiss on the lips.
Victoria stared at him with her big eyes, still silent.
Seeing her not reacting, Alexander couldn't resist kissing her again and again.
The more she stayed quiet, the more he wanted to break her resolve.
"Hello, Ms. Bryant."
"Victoria? This is Mr. Harrington's phone."
Victoria replied coolly, "I know, he's in a meeting."
Alexander paused for a couple of seconds, then moved his lips from hers down to her neck.
Victoria held her breath, saying, "I'll let him know you called when he's out. Hanging up now."
She quickly ended the call, then took a deep breath, cupping his face, "You're doing the wrong thing."
"Ms. Kensington is so serious, but I'm just curious why did you say I am not here."
He whispered ambiguously, and a cool sensation spread across her neck.
Victoria had no choice but to bury her face in his chest, clinging to his shoulders, saying seriously, "Tomorrow..."
"You need to stay by my side during the company's annual meeting."
Before she could finish, Alexander changed the topic.
Victoria slowly lifted her eyes, and when she met his gaze again, she finally gave in.
She thought she was steady and rational, but now, she was unmistakably trapped, ensnared by the icy allure in Alexander's eyes.
Victoria's phone rang. Alexander slowly helped her up. Victoria wanted to get up but was held down by him, whispering, "Answer it like this."
Victoria lowered her head, her heart pounding, but she tried to appear calm.
She had sat on his lap before.
She had even given birth to his child.
She took her phone from her bag and said into the phone, "Eve, I know, okay, I'll be back soon."
Victoria hung up, lowered her head as if very calm, and while putting her phone back in her bag, she said to him, "Strawberry is hungry, I should go back."
"They're back on Rockland Street?" Alexander had calmed down a lot by now and asked her.
"Yes." Victoria replied.
"I'll take you."
"No need."
"Why?"
"I drove my car out."
Victoria still kept her head down, really not daring to look at him.
She always had the feeling that he didn't want her to drive her own car out.
After a long time without a response from him, she turned her head. He helplessly rested his forehead on her shoulder and said with a slight smile, "Our home has more comfortable cars, better for your back."
"I'm fine."
"Are you saying you can do all the difficult moves? And how long can you keep it up?"
Victoria couldn't help but daydream, thinking of those erotic things.
She seriously looked at him again, and Alexander laughed, "Or I could try medium difficulty first."
"Don't be what I'm thinking."
"I'm not doing it for myself."
"Then what are you doing it for?"
"Strawberry."
"Can you be any more shameless?"
"Yes."
Even though neither of them said a single explicit word, they both clearly understood each other's intentions.
Victoria couldn't help but curiously ask him, "Mr. Harrington, what does this have to do with our daughter?"
"If you can't even handle this, how can you hold Strawberry, and how can I trust you to live alone with her?"
"You're much heavier than Strawberry."
"My minimum plank time is ten minutes. If I can keep moving, I should be able to last at least half an hour." Alexander explained.
"What does that have to do with planking?"
