Chapter 127 An Offer of Introduction
"I am occupied. Please, continue without me," he responded, terminating the call. His mood was far from sour, however. His gaze remained steadfastly on Victoria.
Victoria, perturbed by his unwavering stare and unsure of where to direct her own gaze, found herself drawn into his eyes by the firm grip he held on her chin. His commanding, piercing gaze ensnared her. "We should make our relationship public. After all, we are husband and wife."
His words were framed as a suggestion, but they held an air of finality.
"I refuse," she declared, her determination unwavering.
Alexander chuckled lightly in response. "We should have announced our relationship sooner. The untimely passing of your parents was the only obstacle."
The timing would have been perfect then.
Perhaps, if they had, the subsequent events could have been avoided.
"Revealing our relationship now won't bring joy to my parents either," she countered.
His laughter echoed in response. "How can you be so sure? They always held me in high regard, as if I were their son-in-law."
"That was all in jest. They shared such jokes with many others in their time."
Victoria felt a blush creep up her cheeks but knew she had to clarify.
Elders had a peculiar fondness for teasing their younger relatives with playful banter.
Mock betrothals, grooming someone to be a future son-in-law or daughter-in-law—such jests were commonplace.
Did they not realize the fantasies such comments could plant in young minds?
In the past, Victoria hadn't given it much thought, but in that moment, she wished she could turn back time. She would have silenced her parents before they could utter those jests.
His phone rang once more. Alexander, though visibly exasperated, sighed in resignation after glancing at the caller ID and answered, "What is it now?"
Victoria nudged him, causing him to instinctively shift, allowing her to rise from the bed.
As she stood, Alexander could only recline against the headboard, pulling her pillow into his arms. " I won't be accompanying you. However, if you desire male company, I could make an introduction."
"Who?" inquired Isabella.
"Sebastian. He's recently returned and has plenty of free time," Alexander replied nonchalantly.
Victoria had reached the bathroom door. At the mention of that name, she instinctively glanced back.
Alexander was there, cradling her pillow, idly toying with a corner.
He caught her gaze inadvertently and saw her cheeks flush a deep crimson. He attempted to question her with his eyes.
Victoria, however, swiftly reclaimed her pillow from his grasp and stormed into the bathroom, visibly irate.
A smile tugged at Alexander's lips.
Over the phone, Isabella queried, "Is there something amusing you'd like to share?"
"My personal life is not a topic for discussion. Goodbye," Alexander retorted, ending the call before heading towards the bathroom.
Victoria was in the process of removing the pillowcase when Alexander strode in with purposeful strides. He tossed her pillow into the sink and abruptly hoisted her onto the vanity. With one hand, he pinned her wrists behind her back, and with the other, he propped up a bottle of hand soap. He leaned in close, their eyes meeting. "Do you find me unclean?"
Victoria fell silent, her childish stubbornness evident in her refusal to respond.
In the next moment, Alexander advanced without hesitation.
She attempted to evade him, but her efforts were futile. Denied her lips or even her chin, he found himself kissing the elegant curve of her graceful neck.
Victoria's breath hitched instantly, and she froze. Heat radiated from the spot he kissed, spreading up to the crown of her head, turning it a fiery red.
Alexander merely pressed lightly against her neck, a look of triumphant pleasure slowly spreading across his face.
