Chapter 677 The Pursuit of Happiness Means Being Fearless

"What? You wishing she'd kick the bucket or something?"

Tessa's face scrunched up, clearly not happy with what she was hearing.

"Cursing? Seriously? I'm just saying, how does she just vanish into thin air? If she's still kicking, why wouldn't the Harringtons be all over it?"

"Can't she have her own life? Does she have to make it public? And hey, when you ghosted me for years, should I have thought you were six feet under too?"

Tessa got up, her tone sharp.

When the staff brought over the coffee, she barely glanced at it before storming off.

No matter how good the coffee was, she wasn't in the mood. This chick was seriously getting on her nerves.

Still fuming, Tessa turned on her heel and marched back. Daisy was just about to sip her coffee when Tessa, arms crossed, glared down at her. "With that empty head of yours, you think you can snag Mr. Harrington? Keep dreaming."

Daisy, coffee in hand, looked up in shock, not expecting Tessa to roast her like that.

She had just come to ask a question, but instead, she got a verbal smackdown.

Noon, Alexander's office.

Benjamin sat on the couch, looking like he had a headache, while Tessa, hair all over the place, was crying her eyes out, driving him nuts.

Alexander, on the other hand, was cool as a cucumber, reading his documents behind his desk.

Benjamin shot Alexander a look and fake-coughed a couple of times.

Finally, Alexander put down his papers and walked over.

Sure enough, as soon as he got close, Tessa's crying hit the brakes.

Alexander squinted at Tessa, then turned to Benjamin. "I've got it figured out."

"And then?"

Tessa, still sniffling, looked at him with wide eyes.

"And then? How's that my problem?"

Alexander looked at Benjamin.

Benjamin, meeting his icy stare, reminded him, "Tessa fought with her because of Victoria."

"But that's still not my problem."

Alexander didn't even want to hear that name anymore.

Just hearing it made him colder.

Victoria?

She was out of his life.

She chose to leave the day he handed her those divorce papers.

He always thought she loved him. That if he tried hard enough, he could keep her.

He underestimated a woman's will to leave.

And overestimated his place in her heart.

"So you're just gonna let everyone think she's dead?"

Tessa couldn't wrap her head around it. Everyone was saying she was gone.

"She really is dead."

Alexander's voice was ice-cold, his stare even colder.

Tessa was stunned, tears still on her face.

But she couldn't process it.

Victoria, dead?

Benjamin sighed, "Why do you have to do this? We all know she just left you."

"You're right, or maybe I should say she only died in my world." Alexander crossed his legs and spoke slowly.

Tessa looked at him, feeling like a dark cloud was hanging over him.

"How can you say that? You were going to have a child together, and..."

"I know, but the child wasn't born!"

Alexander cut Tessa off, his tone sharp.

Tessa stared at him, seeing just how cold he could be.

Benjamin quietly took her hand, hoping she'd stop talking.

As he held her hand, Alexander's eyes narrowed, like a thorn had pricked him. "If there's nothing else, you both should leave."

Alexander suddenly stood up, clearly annoyed.

"She didn't want it to be this way at all! When she first got pregnant, I asked her with Ms. Baker if she wanted a boy or a girl. She said a girl, 'cause you liked girls. I always thought you were just cold on the outside, indifferent to strangers, but I didn't expect you to be like this to Victoria..."

"Enough."

Benjamin saw Tessa getting more worked up and had to step in.

Alexander, standing by the desk, clearly wasn't in the mood to hear any of this.

Benjamin pulled Tessa away, and by the elevator, she shook off his hand. "If one day our parents force us apart, will you also say I'm dead like he did?"

"Don't drag innocent people into this, okay?"

Benjamin felt like he was choking.

But how could he be the same as Alexander?

Alexander was naturally cold, but Benjamin wasn't.

"You hang out with him every day. What's the difference between you two?"

When the elevator opened, Tessa threw her words at him and stepped in. Once inside, she turned and pointed at Benjamin, who was about to follow, "Don't come with me."

Benjamin had to arrange for a driver to take her back alone, then returned to Alexander's office. "You know Tessa's temper. Why do you have to say those things in front of her?"

"Why should I coddle your woman?" Alexander shot back.

"I didn't say you had to coddle her. Can't you just talk nicely?"

"You came back to teach me how to talk nicely? Should I be grateful?"

"Alexander."

"I have a meeting later, so I won't be seeing you off."

Alexander stood there, back to him, basically telling him to leave.

Benjamin felt Alexander had really changed, or maybe it was just that Alexander was too heartbroken.

"You can't handle that a woman would rather die than leave you, right? But staying in the office all day won't bring her back. Think about it."

Benjamin was also pissed. He wouldn't normally say stuff like this, but today he did.

After Benjamin left, Alexander's fingers loosened the pages of the document he was flipping through, his expression somewhat lost.

He wasn't that unable to accept it.

At noon, Daisy was indeed waiting there again, but unfortunately, he walked away with Shoure as if he didn't see her.

"Mr. Harrington."

"Sorry, this is Mr. Harrington's private time. You need an appointment to contact us."

Shoure saw Daisy following and immediately turned to stop her, politely informing her.

"Mr. Jane, I'm not here for business. Why make an appointment?"

"Whether it's personal or business, you need an appointment to see Mr. Harrington."

Shoure smiled but didn't budge.

Daisy didn't get why Alexander didn't even look at her today, feeling hurt.

She knew Alexander hadn't forgotten Victoria, but she thought a wounded man was the easiest to take advantage of.

If she didn't try now, it would be even harder to find an opportunity in the future. After all, so many women were trying to get close to him, and now, she was the one who had the most contact with him.

If she couldn't catch him, it would be a real pity.

Thinking this, Daisy ran to catch up, "Mr. Harrington, if you're not free at noon, can I make an appointment for dinner? Or even a night out, anytime you're free, I'm available."

Alexander entered the restaurant and Shoure stopped, helplessly smiling at Daisy, "Ms. Bryant, you are indeed fearless."

"Of course, pursuing happiness requires fearlessness and courage."

Shoure smiled, said no more, turned and had someone stop her outside.

Before dinner, a major news story hit the financial section: [The Harrington Group announced the termination of its contract with the Bryant Group.]
