Chapter 720 Nothing I Said Counts

"Sorry for what?"

He plopped Strawberry down next to Victoria, but his eyes were glued to her as he asked.

"I shouldn't have..."

"Shouldn't have what?" Alexander's eyes were practically begging for an answer.

"I shouldn't have cried."

Alexander's face went ice-cold. He stood up, shot her a look, and then stormed off to the bathroom.

'Shouldn't have cried?' he thought, fists clenching so hard his knuckles cracked. He was fuming inside.

Crying was just the tip of the iceberg, wasn't it?

After he left, Victoria glanced at Strawberry and couldn't help but smile like a blooming flower.

Strawberry was out cold. Victoria slowly lay down, cradling Strawberry in her arms, whispering, "My sweetheart."

Life seemed simple like this. As long as she was with her loved ones, she could find peace anywhere.

After his shower, Alexander couldn't resist checking on Strawberry. He bent over the bed, watching her sleep.

Victoria's big eyes locked onto him for a moment. When Alexander looked up, she quickly shut her eyes.

Alexander felt a wave of irritation. After a bit, he retreated to the sofa.

It wasn't that he couldn't crash on the sofa. He'd done it before. But he was just over thirty and craved some stability.

He didn't want much, but she never seemed to get that hiding something so huge from him was wrong.

Did Victoria ever think about raising Strawberry with him together?

Did she ever think about getting back with him?

She still believed he found his true love, Isabella, at the worst possible time, didn't she? But if that was true, why did he send Isabella to prison?

She seemed totally clueless about his feelings...

Alexander lay on the sofa, wide awake.

Later, he opened the bedside drawer. He moved quietly, but Victoria, already a light sleeper, was even more alert.

"Alexander," she whispered.

"I'm just grabbing some meds, not hopping into bed."

He kept his voice low.

He hated this. She always acted like he was some beast about to pounce on her.

After everything that happened, how could he still...

"What meds are you looking for?"

"Can't sleep," he muttered.

Victoria went silent.

He turned his head, but it was too dark to see anything.

He fumbled for the meds, took out two pills, and the noise woke Strawberry.

Both of them immediately looked at her.

Alexander turned on his phone's light and knelt by the bed, watching Strawberry. Victoria sat up, gently patting Strawberry to calm her.

Strawberry opened her eyes, rubbed them, and then looked at the two faces in front of her, suddenly calling out happily.

She looked wide awake and full of energy.

But soon, she stuck out her little tongue and started smacking her lips.

"Is she hungry?" Alexander asked seriously.

Victoria saw she was and said, "Yeah."

"I'll make some formula," Alexander offered.

"No need for formula, but you can leave for a few minutes."

"Why?"

Alexander turned, confused.

Victoria raised her hand to shield her eyes from his phone's light.

"Why are you still here? My breast is engorged."

Maybe it was the dim light, but she said it pretty boldly.

Alexander was a bit puzzled. He popped the meds in his mouth and then flopped back onto the sofa, turning his back to her. "I ain't interested in peeping."

Victoria didn't say much. She wanted to hold Strawberry and switch sides, but her waist was killing her, so she just lifted her shirt.

Strawberry was starving and latched on hard.

Victoria winced but toughed it out. Once Strawberry had her fill, she eased up.

Victoria turned off the electric blanket and kept holding the now-sleeping Strawberry. This time, Strawberry dozed off quickly.

But Alexander suddenly flipped over.

Even with the meds, he was wide awake.

Victoria later heard the door open and close, then nothing.

Alexander had gone out, running along the beach until dawn before coming back.

Maximus came out to get water for Arabella and saw Alexander coming back in his pajamas. "Where'd you go?" he asked, confused.

"Just went for a run," Alexander said lightly, then headed upstairs.

Maximus pondered for a bit, then slowly went upstairs with the water.

Alexander took another shower and wanted to crash on the sofa again.

The curtains slowly opened, and the room gradually brightened.

Victoria looked up and saw someone sleeping by the bed. She thought she was dreaming, but after watching for a while, she realized it was real.

One of Alexander's fingers was tightly held by Strawberry.

She sat up gently, thinking he must be worried she would secretly take Strawberry away.

But she would have to take Strawberry away sooner or later.

She had to go to the hospital today.

She remembered what happened last night.

He wanted her to get proof to change Strawberry's custody.

After resting, the pain in her waist had eased. She quietly got out of bed, found some clothes in the closet, and went to wash up.

Alexander slowly opened his eyes, watching her thin figure enter the bathroom, his eyes growing colder.

Victoria turned on the shower and stood under the warm water, unable to help but sigh. She didn't know why she suddenly felt so nervous, anxious, and uneasy.

But didn't she do everything for Strawberry?

She told herself there was nothing to be nervous or hesitant about.

Everything would pass, and everything was temporary, and she wouldn't change.

Everything would get better.

She would take Strawberry back to Elysium Country.

Just like when she was a kid, living there with her parents, in the same house, in the same school district, everything would be the same as before.

Victoria finished washing up, changed her clothes, and came out.

She moved quietly, took her phone from the bedside, saw that they were still sleeping, and turned to leave.

A questioning voice suddenly came from the opposite side. "Where are you going?"

Victoria turned to look at him, "You're awake."

She slowly straightened up. Since she had been seen, there was no need to be cautious.

"I asked where you are going."

"I'm going to the hospital."

She thought for a moment and replied softly.

Alexander stood up from the bedside and walked towards her with long strides.

Victoria took two steps back, looking at him defensively, saying, "I'm leaving now."

She turned to leave, but her wrist was quickly grabbed.

Strawberry was still sleeping, so she didn't dare make a sound, only questioning him with her eyes.

Alexander said in the coldest tone, "If you dare to step out of this house today, I'll make sure you never see Strawberry again."

"That's not what you said last night."

"What did I say last night?"

"You said last night..."

Alexander suddenly said coldly, "Last night I was drunk. Nothing I said counts."
