Chapter 157 Wear This Ring, Please

The employee led them into the secluded VIP area, their voice echoing the word 'ring'. Victoria had initially thought she had misheard, but as two simple bands were presented before her, she was left in a state of shock.

Alexander, a man known for his stern demeanor and infrequent smiles, leaned in. He picked up one of the rings, extending his hand towards Victoria. "Give me your hand," he requested.

Victoria glanced from his outstretched palm to his face, her voice lost in the sudden surprise. He was offering her a ring.

"This is a wedding band, long overdue," Alexander declared, noticing her hesitation.

The staff present maintained a respectful distance, their faces a mask of professional decorum.

"I don't want it," Victoria stammered, her hands disappearing into her pockets.

Unfazed, Alexander stepped forward, his fingers closing around her wrist and drawing her hand into the open.

"Alexander, don't joke around," she warned.

"This ring symbolizes marriage."

"But..."

"I'm not joking, Victoria. I'm serious. Please, accept this ring."

"I said I don't want it."

Despite the numerous eyes upon her, she couldn't bring herself to meet his gaze. Yet, her resolve remained unshaken.

A frustrated laugh escaped Alexander's lips. "Everyone, please leave us," he commanded.

"Yes, sir," came the unanimous response.

Once they were alone, Alexander pulled Victoria onto his lap, his grip on her hand firm and unyielding.

"Alexander, what are you doing? You can't force me," she protested.

"Am I forcing you? You're my wife," he countered.

"But you said, after proving your innocence..."

Victoria's voice trailed off as she watched him almost slide the ring onto her finger. His words echoed in her mind.

"Darling, some things require clarification, but not this," he murmured, his voice a seductive whisper in her ear.

Victoria recoiled from his intimate proximity, her cheeks flushing a deep crimson. "What, what are you even saying?"

"Having sex require purity, rings don't," Alexander stated bluntly.

"No, please, no."

As she watched him about to slide the ring onto her finger, panic surged within her. She leaned in, gripping his hand. "Alexander, you can't force me like this."

He had refused to acknowledge his relationship with Isabella, insisting that all would be clear in a few months. So why couldn't the ring wait until then?

Alexander fell silent.

He had intended to persist, but...

Her vulnerability touched him.

The room was thankfully empty, and Alexander's brows slowly furrowed in thought.

Victoria sensed something amiss. She glanced down at his leg, then back at him.

The silence in the vast room was so profound, it felt as if one could hear a pin drop.

Even Alexander could blush awkwardly.

Yes, it was embarrassment.

Victoria whispered softly, "It's just..."

He slowly released her, and she quickly withdrew her hand, recoiling from him, her blush spreading from her forehead to her toes.

He, he...

Alexander pursed his lips awkwardly, then tried to appear nonchalant, furrowing his brow. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"You, you..."

"I won't force you."

"But you, you..."

Victoria struggled to articulate her thoughts.

Alexander watched her, initially irritated that she had worked herself into such a state over his actions. Yet, as he watched her flushed face and stuttering words, he couldn't help but laugh helplessly. Not wanting to upset her further, he covered his face with his hand.
