Chapter 908 Bringing Humiliation Upon Herself
"Is that okay?"
Victoria asked softly on the other end of the phone.
Was that okay, as he said, that they would never see each other again in this lifetime?
Alexander suddenly felt so dejected that he couldn't continue speaking. He put down the phone, hung up, and sat helplessly on the edge of the bed.
He had opened up, putting his dignity out there for her to trample, and still, she wanted to break up.
When they were together, she didn't struggle desperately. She could sleep in his arms. Why was she still so cold?
Not long after, the phone rang again. His heart felt like it was being tugged as he turned to look at the phone lying beside him.
He couldn't help but smile bitterly. He thought it was Victoria.
Why would Victoria call him again?
Alexander picked up the phone and answered, "What's up?"
"Alexander, did Victoria go to Ankenra City and not come back?"
"Isn't that exactly what you wanted?"
"But..."
It was Diana on the phone.
Diana had called Arabella tonight and felt something was off.
Victoria had said she wasn't leaving. Why did she leave?
When Victoria said it, she seemed very serious.
Was Victoria just teasing her? Lying to her?
"What?"
Alexander rubbed his nose and quired.
"That day in the hospital, when Victoria woke up, she said she wanted to find you and that she wasn't leaving."
Alexander's long fingers slowly moved away from rubbing his nose, and his eyes lifted.
"Is Victoria lying to me? Does Victoria think I don't like her, so she deliberately said that?"
Alexander could barely hear Diana's words.
That day, as soon as he entered the ward, he interrupted Victoria.
He thought Victoria was asking him to let her go, so he was the one who drove her away, wasn't he?
Alexander's brows gradually furrowed.
How could it be like this?
He didn't let her speak. He took it upon himself to send her away, thinking it was a great favor to her.
But she could have interrupted him. She had many chances later to say she didn't want to leave.
How did it come to this?
Alexander dialed Victoria's number again, but her phone was already off.
It was only after Victoria's phone was off that Alexander finally calmed down.
The next morning, at The Harrington Mansion.
Eloise and Arabella were drinking coffee in the living room. Eloise muttered, "I dreamed last night that Victoria was pregnant with their second child."
Arabella looked puzzled for a moment, then smiled and expressed, "You must be hoping they have more kids, right?"
"With Victoria's health, it's hard to say if she can have another child. But if they could have a second one, that would be great."
Arabella nodded in agreement.
"So, should I pretend to be sick again to get Victoria back?"
Eloise suddenly suggested enthusiastically.
"Mom, this time, Alex has to bring Victoria back himself, whether by force or by pleading. It has to be him."
Arabella asserted, very clearly.
Eloise sighed, "Alexander only knows how to hurt people."
"It's not that he can't be good to people. He just always wants to argue about who's right when something happens."
Arabella thought about Alexander. He was just too stubborn.
'Does he not know how to be kind?'
'No one in this house dares to say a bad word about Victoria.'
'When he's out, he brings all sorts of gifts back for Victoria. The only thing he struggles with is dealing with emotions without being forceful.'
'Victoria, on the other hand, is someone who doesn't like to talk about her problems and keeps her grievances to herself.'
'The more she feels wronged, the more Alexander goes crazy, always trying to force her to say something.'
'In matters of love, how can anyone claim to know who's right and who's wrong?'
"When Victoria was in the hospital recently, I wanted to force Alexander to divorce her. Victoria has suffered too much since coming to our family. But now I don't want them to be apart."
In the end, Eloise couldn't bear to see Alexander suffer.
"Mom, rest assured. There's always a way to reconcile them."
Arabella coaxed, holding Eloise's hand to comfort her.
"Alright, Isabella bears the blame for everything that has transpired."
Thinking of Isabella still felt like a dagger to Eloise's heart.
Their marriage was flourishing, but then Isabella stepped in and shattered it.
"Isabella is simply a demon."
Eloise scolded, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Don't get upset, or your blood pressure will rise again."
"How can I not be upset? It's all my fault."
"It's not entirely your fault. If Victoria hadn't impulsively run off, maybe Isabella wouldn't dare to do anything to you."
"Victoria wouldn't gamble with my life. She truly sees me as her grandmother. But do we see her as our child?"
Eloise confessed, wiping her tears.
Eloise didn't want to be so emotional, but reflecting on these memories filled her with guilt.
Arabella's eyes welled with tears as she faced the truth: she often sided with Alexander in front of Victoria and Strawberry, but she genuinely wanted to be a better mother-in-law.
Around ten in the morning, Arabella arrived at the Harrington Group office building.
"Could you please let him know that a friend of Victoria's is here to see him?"
"Sorry, Ms. Bryant, but there's an order from upstairs. You can't go up."
The receptionist firmly refused Daisy.
Hearing the name 'Ms. Bryant,' Arabella walked over with her purse. "Let me see which friend of Victoria's is here."
Daisy heard the familiar voice and tried to slip away without looking back.
"Stop."
Arabella was already fuming and looking for someone to vent her anger on.
Daisy was stopped by Arabella. She turned around and greeted her with her head down, "Mrs. Harrington, it's you. Sorry, I didn't see you just now."
"Can't you see with those big eyes of yours?" Arabella scolded.
Knowing she couldn't avoid being humiliated by Arabella, Daisy tried to find an excuse to leave, "I have some matters to attend to, so I won't bother you, Mrs. Harrington."
"Stop. Did I allow you to leave?"
"Zero manners."
Arabella continued, then glanced at the receptionist.
Soon, someone brought out a chair and placed it beside her.
Arabella smoothed her skirt and sat down, staring at Daisy. She knew Daisy was learning voice acting, and wanting to be an actress. Arabella couldn't help but mock, "Do you think you can charm people by doing this?"
"I don't understand what you mean, Mrs. Harrington. I have to go."
"Even your parents wouldn't dare leave in front of me without permission, let alone you."
Arabella's words were powerful, forcing Daisy to stand there in humiliation and ask, "What do you want me to do?"
