Chapter 836 His Explanation

Victoria had to let go of Eloise; she didn't want to tussle with Alexander at the Harrington Family Old Mansion.

But when Victoria was taken to the master bedroom and the door was closed, she immediately became nervous. She turned around and stared straight at him, watching as he turned around, his eyes fixed on her, and then he walked towards her with his long strides.

She didn't know why she felt guilty. She lowered her head and quickly turned to walk to the floor-to-ceiling window.

Thinking she had kept her distance, she turned to meet Alexander's gaze at the door. "Mr. Harrington, if you have something to say, please say it."

"Do you have to stay so far away from me? Do I have a bomb on me? Or am I carrying some disease?"

Alexander was still very dissatisfied with this.

Victoria responded softly, "I think this distance is just right."

Alexander suddenly smiled, then walked towards her arrogantly with his long strides.

Victoria quietly stepped back, stopping only when she had nowhere else to go. She tried to sidestep him, but his tall figure immediately blocked her. "If you don't move, I won't touch you."

Perhaps reassured by his promise, she stopped and stood in front of him with her head lowered.

Seeing that she had finally settled down, Alexander slowly began to speak, "If I didn't beat him up today, he wouldn't realize how reckless he is. He's been getting into trouble and getting hurt recently. Do you think it's all accidental?"

Alexander suddenly explained patiently. She knew Alexander was referring to Adrian. She slowly raised her head to meet his gaze.

In Alexander's usually inscrutable eyes, there was rare wisdom and steadiness. He continued, "He's using this method to gain your sympathy. But would you be with him out of sympathy?"

Victoria stared at him in a daze.

She didn't understand.

Not that she didn't understand his words, but she didn't understand why he was saying them.

He always liked to assert that she and Adrian were having an affair.

But today, this was really unlike something Alexander would say.

Victoria just waited silently, hoping he would say more.

"You wouldn't do such a thing. You always have a sense of propriety. Whether it's because of me or because of the elders, you would never be with him. Of course, I wouldn't let that happen either. So, to stop him from hurting himself again, beating him up is just one way."

"Do you think that one punch will wake him up?"

"I just said it's one way. If it were someone else pestering and harassing you like this, I would have kicked him out of this city long ago. But because he's my brother, the elders wouldn't want another Harrington child to be out on the streets. So I've always been restrained with him, but he needs to wake up."

Alexander explained seriously again.

Victoria didn't argue after hearing this. It was rare for him to speak so sincerely to her.

"I understand. Can I leave now?"

Quickly, she looked at him calmly and asked firmly.

If he brought her to the room just to say this, then she understood his point, and they could leave.

But Alexander still stood there. Seeing that she finally didn't misunderstand him, he smiled and said softly, "As you wish."

Hearing this, Victoria felt a chill down her spine and looked up at him again.

Alexander suddenly raised his hand, gently brushing her hair, and murmured, "Your hair has grown a bit longer."

His gaze lingered on that bit of hair at his fingertips; then he looked at her again.

Victoria's heart inexplicably started pounding.

She recalled, when they first met, how calm and composed he was, gently touched her heart.

Victoria quickly lowered her head and moved aside. "I'll go out first."

But Alexander still grabbed her arm, looking at her seriously, "Do we still have a chance to reconcile?"

"No."

Victoria didn't hesitate at all.

Even though her mind was hot and swollen, she didn't hesitate with these words.

Alexander's eyes still held a bit of a smile. He continued to restrain his anxiety and patiently asked her, "Victoria, my heart has never changed."

"But the Victoria who loved you is long gone."

Victoria looked up at him. She hoped he could understand her words and see her determination to divorce in her eyes.

She raised her hand to push away his hand on her arm, but his hand didn't move at all. He still smiled, only asking in confusion, "How can I prove my feelings? Is it only when someone's life is at stake?"

Victoria felt a fierce wave in her heart, but she still looked at him calmly, "Even if the person you save next time is me, it won't matter."

Alexander wanted to say something more, but he didn't know where to start.

Victoria couldn't help but say, "I think you and Ms. Bryant are quite good together. Instead of wasting time on me, you should focus on dating her."

"Do you have to do this?"

Alexander was heartbroken, but he still restrained himself and spoke softly.

"Yes, I have to do this."

She answered firmly, still trying to push his hand away. But after a while of not succeeding, she finally couldn't help but say, "Alexander, let go of me."

"Sorry, I didn't let go in time and made you angry."

Alexander suddenly said softly, then let go.

Victoria couldn't help but look at him with red eyes.

What did he mean by that?

No matter what he meant, Victoria still walked towards the door first. But when she reached the door, she couldn't help but look back at him and say, "Yeah, you should feel sorry. You should have let go when you handed me the divorce papers after returning to the city that year."

Then, she slammed the door shut.

Alexander still stood there, suddenly realizing that she had always blamed him.

It turned out that she wasn't acting out of helplessness back then; she wanted to separate from him.

Alexander planned to go out for dinner, and he arrived late and sat next to Victoria.

He picked up his forks and ate as usual.

Everyone silently watched Alexander, clearly seeing that he was unhappy.

Victoria also looked at him in confusion, thinking he would get angry and leave to drink with his friends.

Later, everyone finished dinner peacefully, but Alexander stayed in the dining room and had another glass of wine.

After taking a bath, Victoria was walking around the room with Strawberry in her arms when she heard the door open softly. Before she turned around, Strawberry turned her head first. Seeing who it was, Strawberry excitedly waved her arms and legs.

Seeing Alexander, Victoria's heart also fluttered.

She had already reflected on herself and knew her words earlier were too harsh.

That wasn't her true intention, but she didn't plan to take it back because she wanted a divorce.

Seeing Strawberry so happy that he came in, Victoria felt a bit helpless and stopped thinking about their issues.

Alexander walked up, and as soon as he reached out, Strawberry leaned into his arms. But when he held Strawberry, the back of his hand accidentally brushed against Victoria's chest. Alexander's face turned red on one side, but after holding Strawberry, he looked at Victoria and said, "Sorry, I accidentally touched your chest."
