Chapter 635 Don't Dare to Say It
"Why do you have to say it out loud?" Victoria asked.
Despite sensing Alexander's intense hormonal presence, which seemed to envelop her, Victoria remained remarkably composed.
"You owe me this," he said and then clasped the back of her neck.
Both of them were clearly restrained, yet it felt like the calm before the storm.
"But if you force me, you won't get my true affection."
She lowered her eyes, trying to control her breathing so as not to provoke him.
Alexander sneered, "Victoria, say you love me."
He placed her hand on his chest, his anger ready to erupt.
Victoria felt his strong heartbeat, her hand trembling slightly, but she only whispered, "Sorry, I can't say it."
"Why? Do you not love me anymore?" Alexander questioned in a low voice.
Victoria thought that it was not that she didn't love him, but it was just she didn't dare to say it out loud.
She had already fallen twice because of him. If it happened again...
Victoria thought she must be crazy.
The fact that they could share such intimacy now was already beyond her expectations.
She dared not to take any more risks.
She raised her hand, gently cupping his face, breathing slowly, and then leaned in to kiss his thin lips.
She wanted to kiss away his anger and obsession.
The words "I love you" had long lost their value.
If she couldn't heal the void in his heart, then she could only apologize.
Alexander grabbed her wrist and slightly lifted his chin to refuse her kiss, his eyes full of melancholy. "Is it really that hard for you to say those words?"
She looked at him and sincerely apologized in a soft voice, "I'm sorry."
Alexander suddenly felt utterly disappointed in her.
She apologized because she couldn't say she loved him.
He had really thought about not caring about anything. Even if she didn't love him, he would still keep her by his side.
However, at this moment, he felt particularly dissatisfied.
"Give me a child." Alexander suddenly cupped her face, his hoarse voice finished speaking, and he forcefully kissed her.
This time, he didn't stop. Instead, he picked her up, kissing her as he carried her to the bed.
Yes, he would find a way to prove she loved him. He would eventually find a way.
Alexander pressed her onto the bed, continuously taking from her, even as she cried and begged for mercy.
——
Victoria was listless the next day, getting up after 10 AM with heavy eyelids and a general sense of weariness.
Arabella saw her struggling to eat in the dining room and couldn't help but ask, "Are you feeling unwell?"
"A bit of a cold." Victoria barely made a sound.
Arabella, however, noticed the exposed hickeys on Victoria's neck and didn't know what to say.
Victoria seemed unhappy, which wasn't the emotion one would have after having sex with someone they loved.
"Did Alex make you angry again? If he did, tell me, I'll avenge you," Arabella spoke softly to her.
"No, but he's a bit busy today, and he might be out socializing until late tonight. He told us not to wait for him." Victoria took a sip of oatmeal and then gently mentioned it.
But Arabella was suddenly certain that they had a fight.
Otherwise, why would Alexander be out socializing until late?
Arabella sighed helplessly, told her to rest well after eating, and then went out.
——
At the Harrington Group office building, when Arabella arrived, Alexander was meeting a guest inside.
Inside was only a woman in a tight skirt, Daisy, the heir of the Bryant Group.
Daisy felt inexplicably flustered when she saw Arabella suddenly appearing at the door, politely and cautiously standing up, "Mrs. Harrington, hello."
Ignoring her, Arabella asked Alexander, "Is this your client?"
"This is Daisy, Mr. Bryant's daughter; don't you remember?" Alexander said indifferently, sitting behind his desk without getting up.
Arabella felt a bit annoyed. "I remember; your grandmother mentioned her last time. She's indeed very pretty. Ms. Bryant, why are at the Harrington Group?"
"I want to apply for a job in the PR department of the Harrington Group; you know our company doesn't have its own PR department, so I want to learn here." Daisy immediately explained.
"I don't interfere with the Harrington Group's business, but since you're applying for a PR position, why are you in the CEO's office?" Arabella asked again.
"Mr. Harrington said I could ask him for help if I needed it, so I..." Daisy suddenly bit her lip, not daring to say more.
She could see Arabella was unhappy.
Arabella sneered, "If you can't even distinguish between a polite lie and the truth, I'm afraid you're not suitable for a PR job that requires being tactful."
"What?" Daisy felt like she had been rejected.
And she wasn't even rejected by Alexander but by his mother.
Daisy looked to Alexander for help. After a brief pause, Alexander instructed, "Go report to the PR department." Alexander didn't even look up, saying it while reading a document.
"Yes." Daisy quickly picked up her bag and left.
As soon as Daisy left, Arabella became even unhappier, waving her hand to disperse the strong perfume smell, then turned to look at Alexander. "She's clearly after you."
"The PR department is eight floors away from my office. How is she after me?" Alexander said.
"I may not know what you and Victoria fought about, but Alexander, don't make her miserable at home and then take it out on other women. That's the most pointless and damaging to a marriage," Arabella reminded him.
"Did Victoria tell you we fought?" Alexander looked at Arabella.
Arabella stood up, annoyed, "She only said you were very busy today and might be out socializing until late. Then she told us not to wait for you; did you teach her to say that?"
Alexander slowly lowered his gaze, suddenly recalling this morning.
When he got up, Victoria opened her eyes. He was annoyed at the time, so he said, "Find an excuse to tell the elders I won't be home tonight, and I don't think you want them to worry either."
He didn't expect her to say that.
Alexander took a deep breath, then seriously signed his name on the document, "Since she said I was busy, why did you come?"
"She's living in our family, with no reliable family of her own; if she's wronged, as her mother-in-law, of course, I have to speak up for her."
Alexander remained silent.
"Alexander, you're five years older than her, why can't you give in to her?" Arabella added.
"How do I give in?" Alexander asked.
He had given in again and again, but she kept pushing.
What did it matter if he forced her to say it?
Victoria was his wife. What harm was there in saying something he wanted to hear?
Especially since he had already given his heart.
"Think about your sister; she's still traveling the world. I send her money every month, reminding her not to get wet when it rains, and to wear more clothes when it's cold; she calls me crying for half the night when she's scared, and then look at Victoria, how much has Victoria been scared? Who does Victoria confide in? Victoria sits alone in the cemetery for half a day, talking to a cold tombstone." Arabella choked up and had to stop.
Alexander opened another document and continued reading, his expression growing colder.
"Do you really think she doesn't know that we call her "sweetie," but we actually care more about you?"
"Do you really think I'm a heartless, unkind man who mistreats his wife?" Alexander asked back.
