Chapter 18 Confession

Her heart was throbbing painfully. He stood there, cold as ice, as if he could rip out her internal organs at any moment. The feeling was unbearable. Moreover, just the thought of him having a child with another woman, she... She didn't know how to humble herself enough to stay. So, she looked at him, shaking her head in denial, acting as willful as she desired, murmuring, "I don't care about the Harrington family. I just won't go to work anymore; I want to return to M country." She wanted to leave him, both professionally and personally.
Alexander looked at her for a long time before finally asking again, "So you're determined to quit and leave?"
"Yes."
"Alright, as you wish."
Suddenly, Alexander turned icy cold, said his piece, and walked away, despite the tears still in his palm. He hadn't expected her to be so resolute. She heard the thunderous slam of the door, but she still stood there. It seemed like she could leave now, but... wait... They hadn't finalized their divorce yet.
By the time she got out, the elevator had already descended and stopped. He had gone to find Isabella. She paused, standing there awkwardly. Her phone was ringing in the room, but she had no desire to answer it.
At ten in the morning, she dragged her suitcase, which she hadn't unpacked, downstairs. Yes, she was leaving. But she had only been in the taxi for five minutes when her phone rang again. It was her boss.
"Hello, Ms. Zoe."
"Where are you? Get back here quickly. There's a problem with the project you're handling. You need to explain it to me."
"A problem?"
She had checked the project five times; how could there be a problem? But it was a big deal, so she had the driver turn around. And then... at half past ten, she dragged her suitcase into the Harrington Company building.
A colleague saw her and asked, "What's this? Planning to move into the office?"
"Ah, no."
She was embarrassingly at a loss for words when her phone rang again. She quickly answered, "Ms. Zoe, I'm here; I’m coming up now."
"Come straight to the top floor; I'm in Mr. Harrington's office."
"Mr. Harrington's office? Alright."
After hearing the name Mr. Harrington, her response was barely audible. Him again?
Victoria's heart was racing, but she still went up. As the elevator doors opened, all she could think about was what could have possibly gone wrong. Her boss was definitely going to be furious.
But then, there was a deafening bang, followed by another. Then came a wave of unfamiliar cheers. She stood there, frozen, until the elevator doors started to close, and someone pressed the button to open them again.
"Aren't you coming out?"
Ms. Zoe called out to her. Victoria finally snapped back to reality and slowly dragged her suitcase out.
"Welcome, Miss Kensington."
The one holding the flowers was the assistant to the former secretary on the upper floor, who was about her age. She took the flowers and nodded subconsciously, "Thank you."
She was completely bewildered until Ms. Zoe said, "How about that? Nice surprise, right? Don't forget about me in the future."
She was still in shock, asking, "Didn't you say there was a problem with the project?"
"With your meticulous work ethic, how could there be a problem? Today is your official promotion to the position of the boss' secretary, so we wanted to give you a surprise."
She wanted to laugh, but she couldn't.
Ms. Zoe winked at her before she could understand what was happening.
"Is Miss Kensington going on a business trip? Or planning to live in the company?"
A familiar voice came from behind. She turned around.
