Chapter 266 Illusion of Love

"What? Could you repeat what you just said?" Victoria questioned, certain she had misheard.

A chuckle escaped Alexander's lips. Her innocence was truly endearing.

Observing her flushed and slightly irate expression, he cleared his throat, sauntering towards her with his hands confidently resting on his hips. "You, my dear, are an absolute delight," he declared.

Victoria's face instantly bloomed into a deep shade of crimson, rendering her speechless.

The sight of her in such a state was utterly enchanting to Alexander, leaving him breathless. His eyes, brimming with allure, narrowed slightly. He tried to suppress his feelings, but ultimately, he succumbed.

"What are you up to?" Victoria inquired, her voice laced with caution.

"Who told you to descend the stairs and tempt me without changing your attire?" Alexander retorted.

"Who says I was trying to seduce you?" Victoria asked.

"You did," Alexander replied.

"I did not," she insisted.

"Take a good look at yourself," Alexander said simply.

With a swift motion, Alexander grasped her slender waist and hoisted Victoria up, allowing her to wrap her legs around him as he carried her to the kitchen counter. He then gave her a thorough once-over, urging her to do the same. To his surprise, he noticed hickey marks on her exposed skin beneath her skirt.

He worried that she might misinterpret his actions as abusive.

"I'm not to blame," Alexander insisted.

After Victoria had taken a moment to examine herself, she was filled with regret, but found herself unable to immediately dismount from the counter. His claim of innocence, coupled with his apparent embarrassment, gave her pause. Only then did she follow his gaze, lowering her head and hastily pulling her dress down to conceal the hickey marks.

Alexander held his breath. He had been repressing his emotions for some time, managing to maintain a semblance of composure. He addressed her in a business-like tone, "You should understand how difficult it is for a man to resist in such a situation."

"How would I know?" Victoria retorted, finding his statement peculiar. She had never been intimate with a man before.

Alexander's embarrassment intensified, but it was quickly replaced with relief. "Do you want me to carry you upstairs, or would you prefer to go on your own?"

"I'll manage on my own," Victoria responded promptly. Either option seemed simple enough.

Alexander remained silent, initially intending to carry her upstairs. However, as he neared her, he felt a surge of excitement and a desire to tease her a little more.

"I must return to Ankenra tomorrow," he gently reminded her.

Victoria's expression turned blank as she murmured, "I know."

She pondered, 'Is he leaving? Will we be separated? Am I sad? No, no, no. I must control myself and not burst into laughter.'

Yet, Alexander quickly discerned her thoughts from the twinkle in her eyes.

"You can stay a bit longer if you wish, but you'll have to leave eventually," he told her.

If Victoria were to go to Ankenra, it wouldn't be a "return" in the true sense.

However, Victoria’s parents had always referred to their hometown as a place to return to, and she had adopted the same mindset. After their passing, she had anchored her sense of belonging to the place she had resided in for a long time, especially when she contemplated parting ways with Alexander.

When Victoria remained silent, Alexander probed, "What?"

"Okay." Victoria nodded obediently. However, she lowered her gaze, concealing her playful and cheerful demeanor, which didn't escape his notice.

Alexander chuckled helplessly, resting his forehead against hers. He felt a pang of reluctance in that moment.

"Victoria," he softly called her name.

"What?" Victoria responded, her voice slightly hoarse from the prolonged silence.

Alexander chose not to say anything further. Instead, he cradled the back of her neck and resumed kissing her. Victoria stiffened, feeling a wave of dizziness wash over her. His tender kisses that morning had made her feel cherished. However, she was convinced it was merely an illusion.

Eventually, she raised her hand to gently push against his shoulder, attempting to pull away. But Alexander caught her wrist and guided her hand to the back of his neck, continuing to shower her with kisses. Victoria was left slightly disoriented by his affection. When she finally retreated upstairs, she was still in a state of bewilderment.

The following day, as Alexander prepared to depart, he softly implored, "Bid me farewell."

Victoria stood at the doorway, her gaze lingering on him, then shifting to the Lincoln that had brought him to her.
