Chapter 680 Their Child Was Dead

"She didn't even recognize my buddy in that situation. You think that's for real?"

Edward asked, dead serious.

"No way."

Alexander thought it over for a bit, but still shook his head.

"What I'm wondering now, Alexander, did Victoria really have a miscarriage back then?"

Edward's tone got even more serious.

Alexander's eyes got all distant, staring off into space. He remembered that day, the blood soaking through her clothes.

No way, just no way.

"What if it was your kid with Victoria?"

Edward pressed on.

"No way."

Alexander took a deep breath, struggling to get the words out.

"Whether it's possible or not, why not see for yourself."

With that, Edward bounced, leaving Alexander alone in the hospital room.

Alexander sat there for ages, finally pulling out his phone from under the covers. He looked down and saw that painful smile.

His breathing got all shallow, a thin mist covering his eyes, his lips slightly parted, staying like that for a long time.

Their kid was gone.

Adrian was on set, a little girl by his side. He pulled out a lollipop, "Call me daddy and it's yours."

"Daddy!"

The little girl chirped, all excited.

"Good girl."

Adrian was a pro at handling kids. He handed her the lollipop and took her to the set. She was super well-behaved.

But today, he felt like someone was watching him. He turned around, just saw the usual crew.

He'd thought about ditching the entertainment biz, but someone told him not to.

He'd lost his drive, but Victoria told him to keep going.

After the shoot, he gave the little girl back to her mom and left the set.

His sports car was parked at the hotel entrance, that license plate making him smirk.

He knew they'd cross paths again.

But just as he was about to head over, the car took off.

Watching it drive away, Adrian was left scratching his head.

So, what was Alexander doing here?

Eloise said he had fainted and should be in the hospital, right?

After leaving, Alexander went straight back to his new crib. He was fine, no reason to stay in the hospital.

That woman said she hated hospitals, and he hated them too.

His phone rang, and the voice on the other end said, "Mr. Harrington, Isabella wants to see you."

"I might see her when she's on her deathbed."

Alexander chuckled and hung up.

He remembered what Isabella had said.

She'd rot in prison, living a fate worse than death.

Since she wanted them to suffer, no one was getting off easy.

Isabella was stuck in the nastiest cell, with the meanest female inmates.

It was a kind of hell Isabella had never seen before.

The next day, Alexander went to the office. Janaye came in to drop off some documents, gave her report, and left.

When Alexander opened the file, his fingers stiffened a bit.

The first page was a plane ticket to that place.

Actually, Victoria once said she wanted to stay there.

She was born there, her...

Alexander's long fingers gripped the page, his face tightening.

Not long after, Janaye came to pick up the signed documents and saw the plane ticket still there.

Shoure happened to walk in and saw her standing there, looking lost, so he walked over, "What's up?"

"Mr. Harrington didn't take the plane ticket."

Shoure said, "I'll go."

Janaye looked up, confused.

"Or I'll go see her. Better someone than no one, right?"

Shoure figured Alexander probably wouldn't go.

He hadn't heard Victoria's name from Alexander in ages. Once, during a meal, someone mentioned her, and Alexander, who had been all smiles, suddenly went stone-faced. Since then, no one dared to bring her up around him.

Shoure thought, 'Victoria probably fades away from Alexander's world over time.'What a pity!'

"You're right."

Janaye mumbled, looking down, then asked, "Should I cancel this ticket?"

"Yeah, cancel it tonight."

Shoure thought, it wouldn't change anything.

"Okay."

Janaye agreed and went back to her desk, looking bummed.

Shoure saw Janaye stressing about Victoria all day and sighed, then knocked on Alexander's office door.

"Here to report on the new factory."

"Come in."

Alexander said, barely looking up from his emails.

Shoure saw how tired he looked and asked, "Need a few more days off?"

"Nope, go ahead."

Work couldn't wait.

So, Alexander stayed in the office, and on Wednesday, Shoure boarded the plane himself.

Benjamin invited Alexander and Edward out for dinner. When Alexander walked into the private room, he saw a little girl standing on Edward's lap, and his eyes stung.

Benjamin sighed when he saw Alexander, "Wasn't my idea to bring her."

Everyone thought Olivia had a boy, but nope, it was a girl.

"My cute Orange, say hi to everyone."

Edward coached his daughter.

Orange looked at Alexander and Benjamin, then clung to her dad's neck, almost choking him.

Edward looked at Alexander and Benjamin, "Can't you guys be a bit more charming?"

"We don't know how to handle kids."

Benjamin reminded him.

"But you can smile, right?"

"Nope."

Alexander poured himself some coffee, holding the cup and sipping.

Edward was annoyed but seeing Alexander's indifferent look, he plopped Orange into Alexander's arms, "Hold her, I gotta hit the bathroom."

Orange looked confused but didn't cry.

Her big eyes stared right at Alexander.

Alexander reflexively raised his hands to support her underarms.

At that moment...

Benjamin watched Alexander's face and thought his heart might've just melted.

When Orange was born, Alexander gifted a villa but didn't show up.

This was his first close encounter with her.

Benjamin watched Orange and whispered, "Guess she doesn't hate you."

Alexander stayed silent, his face tightening.

Orange suddenly sneezed, snot bubbles forming.

Alexander frowned but saw the tears in her eyes, like he scared her. He immediately softened and gently said, "Tissue."

Benjamin quickly grabbed a tissue for him.

Alexander wasn't great at this, but he'd imagined this scene a million times.

He was ready to be a dad, but fate, how could they fight it? Right?
