Chapter 760 Baby, I'm Afraid You Can't Do It
"What are you talking about?" Victoria looked at Alexander, totally confused and feeling a bit lectured.
"You know what I mean." He flashed that killer smile of his. Seeing her confusion and nervousness, Alexander's smile got even softer.
"I know nothing," Victoria said, then bolted out of there.
After she left, Alexander glanced at Strawberry in his arms, who looked just like Victoria did as a kid, feeling pretty pleased with himself.
How could he not get what she was hinting at? She was just trying to get him to leave. But he wasn't going anywhere.
Victoria finally relaxed once she stepped outside. The house was warm, and she felt even warmer, but when she noticed she was still wearing his coat, her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly took it off.
Eve was standing nearby, waiting for instructions. Seeing Victoria without the coat, she couldn't help but exclaim, "Mrs. Harrington, you look stunning."
Eve always thought Victoria was pretty, but she usually looked tired and never wore makeup. This was the first time she'd seen Victoria all dressed up.
Victoria smiled. "Do you regret not seeing such a beautiful woman sooner?"
Eve chuckled, "Yeah, a little."
Later that afternoon, when Victoria returned to change, Eve had already gone to Metro House to pick up Strawberry. This explained why Eve had missed the chance to see Victoria looking so stunning earlier.Alexander stood at the door holding Strawberry, watching Victoria walk away, and sighed. Then he looked down at Strawberry, who had fallen asleep in his arms in no time.
Victoria draped his coat over her arm, turned around after talking to Eve, and saw that he had already come out and that Strawberry was asleep. She told Eve, "Put Strawberry to bed, Mr. Harrington needs to go."
"Mrs. Harrington, I need to use the restroom." Eve, noticing how Alexander looked at Victoria, rubbed her hands and headed to the restroom.
"You really think she can make me leave? Not a chance.." Alexander reminded Victoria and went back to put Strawberry down.
"But we're divorced. We can't live together," Victoria reminded him.
"But lots of divorced people still live together," Alexander came back after putting Strawberry down and spoke seriously.
Victoria instinctively stepped back as he approached, keeping some distance before speaking again, "Are you sure? Maybe they just can't find another place to live immediately."
"A place to live? Even without a house, a man can sleep anywhere," Alexander replied.
Victoria looked at him, puzzled, "What do you mean?" This time she really didn't get it.
"It means he regretted it right after the divorce," Alexander clarified, closing in on her.
Victoria could only stare into his deep eyes, her heart racing. His gaze was so intense, it was easy to get the wrong idea.
No, she was just imagining things. He wouldn't regret it. He was just talking about those who get divorced but don't move out.
Victoria felt like her feet were glued to the ground, but her upper body instinctively leaned back. Alexander stepped forward and supported her back, saying, "If you keep dodging, you'll fall."
Victoria's big eyes stared straight at him. Tonight, there was something about him that kept making her heart flutter.
"Alexander."
"I'm here."
"You really should go."
Alexander felt a bit frustrated and thought to himself, 'Why is Victoria still trying to make me leave? Does she really not want to get back together?'
"It's in our agreement," Victoria reminded him again, trying to stay patient.
Just hearing about that agreement made Alexander even more frustrated. He couldn't help but say, "Haven't you noticed you always have this weird control over me?"
Victoria shook her head, her big eyes still looking at him defensively. When had she ever controlled him? Controlled him to stay away for two years? Controlled him to send her the divorce papers?
She didn't think she had that kind of power. She thought she had controlled him once.
But now she wasn't sure why he let her go, whether it was for her own good or some secret reason. The uncertainty gnawed at her, leaving her restless and confused. A few days ago, she got a letter from the prison, and the contents of that letter had her emotions all over the place for a long time.
The tension between them was palpable, the air thick with unspoken words and unresolved feelings.
At that moment, Eve came out of the restroom and saw them in the living room. She quickly lowered her head and went into her room, gently closing the door.
Victoria and Alexander both glanced at her room door, then Victoria silently looked at him, while he instantly picked her up, saying, "I'll take you back to your room."
Victoria thought to herself, 'The house isn't that big, just a few steps to the room. I can totally do it on my own. He acts like we're in his big mansion.' She looked at him, thinking it was really unnecessary.
Before she could finish thinking it was unnecessary, he had already placed her on the bed. He bent over in front of her and whispered, "Do you want to take a shower first?"
"I want to call the police first."
"What?"
"I want to ask if I can get the police to help me if my ex-husband keeps bothering me." Victoria looked at him, her eyes clear, her voice calm.
Alexander said with a flattering smile, "Although I think it's a good idea, considering the police have more important things to handle, I advise you to forget it."
"Will you leave on your own then?"
Alexander suggested playfully, "Why don't you check online yourself?"
Victoria looked at him and inexplicably thought his idea was good. Then she started searching his coat pockets, remembering that she had put her phone there when they were in the car.
Alexander watched her seriously searching and just stared at her intently.
After checking, Victoria looked up at him.
In the small bedroom, an undeniable sense of intimacy quickly arose. The posture of the man and woman, and their restrained breathing, seemed to increase that intimacy.
"Did you find it?" Alexander asked.
"Yes," Victoria responded reluctantly, her voice inexplicably hoarse.
Alexander suggested, "Let me see."
Victoria turned the phone towards him, and the light from the phone made him squint reflexively.
Victoria looked at him squinting and thought he probably didn't know that he looked very dangerous when he did that.
She had searched for what to do if constantly harassed and threatened by an ex-husband, and there were quite a few answers. The first one said to call the police.
After reading the top three results, Alexander's squinted eyes carried a smile as he said, "So what do you plan to do next?"
Victoria said seriously, "Call the police."
Alexander laughed when he saw such a gentle person so determined to call the police. He had only asked her to check her phone as a joke.
He sometimes really enjoyed teasing her. Hearing her say she would call the police, while she was still thinking about how to do it, he had already grabbed her wrists and slowly raised them above her head, whispering, "Baby, I'm afraid you can't do that."
