Chapter 581 Because I Really Wanted to Kiss You
"No." She lay back down, completely caught off guard by the turn of events.
From that day on, this song kept playing in her ward.
It wasn't from a phone anymore but from the ward's sound system.
As night fell, a staff member came to deliver meals. Hearing the sad love song playing inside, she hesitated but still went in.
Victoria finally couldn't hold back and said to Alexander, "Can you turn it off, please?"
"I haven't gotten the answer I want."
"What answer do you want?"
"Keep listening." Alexander gave her a cold glance.
Victoria was angry, her eyes welling up with tears.
The staff quickly set the meal on the table and left, not daring to stay any longer.
Victoria ate her meal without tasting a thing.
She silently vowed never to quote song lyrics carelessly again.
Alexander, on the other hand, ate happily and even helped her with some soup, saying, "Have more soup; it's specially made for you, to help you become smarter."
Victoria obediently drank the soup with her head down. She really needed to be smarter, even if it meant being called an idiot.
After dinner, he went to take a shower and asked the butler to bring them pajamas.
When Alexander came out of the shower, he stared at her, making her feel uneasy. "Go take a shower."
Victoria said, "I'll go after you leave."
"Why would I leave?" Alexander looked at her with a questioning gaze.
"Then I won't shower."
"As long as you can stand it, I don't care." Alexander didn't push her any further.
Victoria watched him sit down on the edge of the bed, then immediately got up and took her pajamas to the bathroom.
Alexander asked, "Need any help?"
Victoria shook her head. "No."
"I'll be right outside the door. Just call if you need anything."
Victoria retorted, "I won't need anything."
Alexander got up slowly and walked to the bathroom door after she closed it.
Inside, the door was predictably locked. He was a bit worried but also helpless. Victoria guarded against him like he was a thief, but he still felt responsible and said, "With the door locked, if something happens, I won't be able to get in to save you."
There was no response inside.
Victoria had already gone to the far end to shower.
Just then, a nurse came in to give Victoria her pre-sleep medication. Alexander asked, "Do you have the key to the bathroom?"
"Yes, it's in the drawer by the bed."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
The nurse left after delivering the medication.
Alexander opened the drawer and, seeing the key inside, smiled wryly.
Having the key made him feel more at ease.
Alexander then took a phone call, learning that Isabella was trying to find a way to save Dorian.
When Victoria came out, she noticed he wasn't by the door. Just as she was about to sigh in relief, she saw him standing by the window.
"Let her try whatever she wants, but remember this: don't break the law."
Alexander's deep, steady voice was firm and unquestionable.
Victoria was puzzled by his words. Seeing her reflection in the glass, he said into the phone, "Talk to you later."
He turned around and walked towards her when he saw her in her pajamas.
Victoria stood there, dazed. "What are you doing?"
"Don't move. I need to check if any water got on your wound." He was extremely serious.
Victoria lowered her head, not daring to move. After checking, Alexander looked at her and said, "Very careful, no water got on it. You deserve a reward."
"What?"
"Nothing. Just a reward," Alexander said this while lifting her off the floor.
Victoria instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck as he carried her to the bed.
Their pajamas were matching, giving a sense of being at home.
Victoria stared at him for a while and couldn't help but say, "If you're busy, go ahead. I'm fine now; you don't need to take care of me."
"I'll leave after you fall asleep."
"What?" Victoria looked at him cautiously, feeling a pang of sadness.
"What's wrong?" Alexander placed her on the bed, keeping one hand behind her neck, looking into her tearful eyes before glancing at her lips.
This position made it easy to kiss.
He immediately leaned down and kissed her gently, carefully, afraid of hurting her wound.
Victoria silently accepted the kiss, then looked up at him.
Alexander's deep voice said, "This is your reward for taking a shower."
Victoria's face inexplicably blushed.
Why did his coaxing work so well on her?
Alexander kissed her on the lips again. "This time, it's because I really wanted to kiss you," he said softly, his beautiful eyes revealing emotions he could no longer hide.
Feeling a fleeting illusion that he loved her deeply, Victoria quickly lowered her gaze.
But as soon as she looked down, she saw the two rings hanging around his neck, and her heart started to race uncontrollably.
Victoria thought, 'Why does he keep wearing them?'
Her hand on his shoulder slowly moved down and gently rested on her chest because of those two rings.
The rings seemed to remind her of that foolish past, and she couldn't let herself fall for him again.
Even if she did, she couldn't start over with him.
Victoria finally came to her senses, feeling secretly relieved as she softly said, "I want to sleep alone tonight."
He agreed quickly. "Okay."
Victoria instinctively looked into his eyes, but he had a hint of a smile, still gentle, as he said, "I'll put you down carefully, so you don't hurt your wound."
She agreed, "Okay."
After he withdrew his arm, she turned over and lay down.
Alexander said, "I'll sleep on the couch."
Victoria thought he could really go back, but he didn't.
And the next morning, after breakfast, Janaye brought a tall, muscular man to her ward.
Alexander was checking emails, frowning in dissatisfaction.
Victoria was playing a game on her phone but put it down when they arrived.
"Mr. and Mrs. Harrington, Frank is here," Janaye introduced the man to Alexander.
Frank Patterson greeted Alexander seriously, "Good morning, Mr. Harrington."
Alexander looked up at him and said, "From now on, if Victoria is in any danger, I'll hold you accountable."
"Yes, sir."
Alexander had hired a bodyguard for Victoria.
Victoria sat on the bed, listening to their conversation, feeling a bit confused.
She thought, 'Who is this man? Why do I feel like he is here for me?'
"Introduce yourself to Mrs. Harrington." After saying this, Alexander took the documents Janaye handed him and started working.
Frank, forty years old, had recently won the national Taekwondo championship and was also a boxing champion.
After Victoria heard Frank's introduction, her hair stood on end.
Frank's muscular build was evident even under his clothes.
Upon realizing Alexander had hired a bodyguard for her, she wanted to refuse.
But after hearing about Frank's skills and looking at him again, she didn't dare to say no.
She wasn't afraid of being beaten by him; she was afraid of missing out on such talent.
