Chapter 688 Delivering the Divorce Agreement
"We really can't go back to our country," Eve whispered.
"Do you wanna go back?" Frank asked.
"What do you think? That's our homeland," Eve shot back, always the rational one.
Frank plopped down on the ground, lost in thought. When he snapped out of it, he saw Eve perched on the edge of his bed. He couldn't help but blurt out, "You're sitting on my bed."
"What?"
"Eve Wood, what does it mean when a girl sits on a guy's bed?"
Eve was taken aback.
For ages, he and Victoria had just called her Eve. She only used his full name when she was stressed.
"Why are you playing dumb? We're talking serious stuff here."
"So, what are you thinking?" Frank leaned back, propping himself up on his arms.
Eve looked down at him, "How about we hit up Mr. Harrington?"
"That means betraying Mrs. Harrington."
"Right now, Mrs. Harrington's doing fine and has a daughter. Mr. Harrington's really down in the dumps; he doesn't even know he's a dad," Eve continued.
Frank was stumped. He needed to mull it over.
"Victoria, did you see clearly? Who does he really love?"
"Sooner or later, you'll come crawling to me, Victoria. You're just a joke..."
Victoria jolted awake from the mocking voice in her dream. She turned to see her three-month-old daughter, Strawberry, already sucking on her fingers. She slowly relaxed and leaned closer, "Hey, baby."
Strawberry heard Victoria's voice and started waving her arms and legs, giggling.
Just hearing her laugh was enough to heal Victoria.
She had been so badly hurt back then, she thought she would lose her child for sure.
She had lost so much blood, but somehow, it stabilized.
When the doctor said her child was still there, she burst into tears.
When Victoria woke up, she was already on the operating table. It felt ridiculous that she was still alive. After all, she had no will to live.
But a doctor leaned close to her ear and gently said, "You must hold on, for the baby in your belly."
At that moment, hope slowly filled her eyes again.
Her baby hadn't left her.
Even if Alexander's love was fake, her baby was real.
So, she fought through all the pain and came back to life.
When her phone rang, Victoria struggled to get up and saw it was a message from Adrian.
Hee had left again.
Adrian had left with the divorce papers.
From now on, she was truly single.
Single and with a baby, it was the happiest life she could imagine.
In the morning, Eve was giving her blessings, Victoria was reading a book, and Frank was taking Strawberry for a walk to get some fresh air. When he heard the phone ring, he took it out and looked at it, then answered, "Hello? Mr. Harrington."
There was no sound on the other end, and it quickly hung up.
But Frank wouldn't forget that number.
Ankenra City, Harrington Group.
Adrian's car was parked in the company lot, and he got out with a bag containing the divorce papers.
When his phone rang, he looked at it and answered, "Didn't I say I'd be there later?"
"Everyone is waiting for you."
"Ava, do you really need to cram so much into my schedule?"
"First of all, it's for your own good."
"Got it. I'm handling some personal stuff now. I'll be there in an hour."
"An hour..."
Before Ava could finish, he had already hung up.
The most important thing for him now wasn't holding a press conference.
The most important thing now was to deliver it to Alexander on the top floor.
Adrian got the green light to head upstairs, but the only person he saw was Janaye.
"He's not here?" Adrian asked, holding onto the papers.
Janaye stood by the elevator, eyeing him, "Nope, our boss is in a meeting."
"Then I'll wait for him in his office."
"You're just putting me in a tough spot by doing this."
"So, he is here, right?" Adrian brushed past Janaye.
Janaye hesitated for a couple of seconds before chasing after him, shouting, "Mr. Adrian Harrington, please don't do this. Our boss really isn't here..."
"I knew you were here."
"Mr. Harrington, I'm sorry, Mr. Adrian Harrington is forcing his way in."
"Let him be," Alexander said calmly, closing the file he was reading. He looked up at Adrian, "Come in and close the door."
Adrian walked in, shut the door, and plopped down on the sofa with the document bag in hand.
Alexander eyed him, then strolled over and sat in the single sofa diagonally opposite, smiling, "Did she sign?"
"Of course."
"Hand it over."
Alexander extended his hand.
Adrian looked at his smiling face and felt a pang in his chest, "Do you really not care anymore?"
"Care about what?"
"If you don't care anymore, I want to propose to her right away," Adrian said, trying to sound deep.
Alexander's expression turned cold for a moment, but he still smiled as he took the document bag and opened it.
At the bottom...
His neck suddenly felt tight, and his expression became serious.
It was her handwriting, delicate and gentle.
He tossed the divorce papers aside, then leaned back, staring dominantly at Adrian, "If you two are getting married, I won't attend the wedding."
"I don't want you to come, either," Adrian shot back immediately.
Alexander stayed calm, but Adrian sensed something was off.
Alexander glanced at the ring on his hand and said indifferently, "Just leave, I have a meeting to attend later."
"Alexander, Victoria said thank you for letting go."
Alexander held his breath, looking at him, his eyes narrowing, but he didn't say anything.
"She has wanted to cut ties with you for a long time. She was even ready to carry the title of your wife for life, but you actually agreed to the divorce."
Adrian suddenly laughed and shrugged, as if to say, this was really an unexpected surprise.
After a long pause, Alexander chuckled, "Go on."
"What?"
"If provoking me makes you happy, go on."
Alexander sat there, unmoving.
Of course, he was furious and even wanted to throw a punch.
But he wouldn't do something so undignified. He could imagine Victoria's eyes lighting up with joy when she saw the signed divorce papers because she had indeed been waiting for this for a long time.
He could still remember her happy moments, perhaps because there were so few happy times with him, those memories were particularly vivid.
"Why would I want to provoke you? Although I really want to, everything I just said is true. Of course, her agreeing to be with me might have something to do with me staying by her bedside every night when she couldn't move, but even if she was moved to be with me, isn't it better to have feelings than none at all?"
Adrian continued.
Alexander still smiled faintly.
"This ring, I forced her to buy it for me on my birthday. Of course, it's a couple's ring. She has one, too. I have a photo. Wanna see it?"
