Chapter 672 Two Lives Lost

"Adrian," Victoria's voice was barely a whisper.

Adrian snapped to attention, "Victoria, I'm right here."

On the way to the hospital, with snow coming down hard, Victoria, blood all over her, murmured in his arms, "If I don't make it, take my ashes and my parents' back to Elysium Country, okay?"

"Okay." Adrian held her tight with one arm, steering with the other, trying to keep it together.

Hearing his promise, Victoria gave a weak smile and then passed out cold.

In that moment, it felt like a dream. She thought she'd wake up and everything would be the same.

She wasn't one to hold grudges, even now.

Goodbye, Ankenra City. She just wanted it to end like this.

Alexander showed up at the hospital not long after Adrian.

Adrian waited outside the operating room for what felt like forever. He walked up to Alexander, "Alexander, if by some miracle she pulls through, let me take her back to Elysium Country."

"Do you know what you're saying?" Alexander's voice was low and questioning.

"You've already made your choice, haven't you? You picked Isabella, so..."

"Adrian." Alexander, fuming, grabbed Adrian by the collar but didn't say anything harsh.

"Victoria said if she died, I should take her and her parents' ashes back to Elysium Country. Don't you get it?"

Adrian stared him down, no fear in his eyes. Alexander had shattered Victoria's heart.

Alexander slowly let go.

A doctor came out soon after, looking at the two men, "Who's her family?"

"I am."

"I am."

They both spoke at the same time.

"I thought you looked familiar. She asked me to tell Mr. Harrington: your child is gone, and it's over between you two," the doctor said to Alexander, turning away.

An assistant came out with a small sealed bag, which the doctor handed to Alexander.

Inside was a bloodstained ring, "Your wife wanted us to give this back to you."

Alexander stared at the bag, unable to take it.

"There was a misunderstanding between us." Alexander said quietly but didn't take the ring.

He slowly walked back to the wall and sat down on the cold seat.

Adrian took the bag, walked up to Alexander, and tossed it into his lap, "I'm taking her away."

"Murderers have to pay."

"Yeah, but you took the knife for that damn Isabella." Adrian was just as disappointed in Alexander.

Alexander sat there, face grim, a big bloodstain on his back, already soaking his waist.

Frank stepped up, "Mr. Harrington, do you need your wound treated?"

Alexander sneered but didn't move.

After Victoria came out of the operating room, they took her straight to the ICU.

She lay there like a corpse.

The doctor said her wounds were healing slow and she had no will to live.

Alexander put on sterile clothes and went to the ICU to talk to her. He saw the cut on her face, just starting to scab, but she was barely hanging on.

That day, she almost died.

A year later, Ankenra City.

The Harrington Group's Eloise kidnapping case was old news, but people still gossiped about it.

At dinner tables, they'd say, "It had to be a love feud. I heard Mrs. Harrington of the Harrington Group actually died that day."

"I never thought Mr. Harrington's first love could be such a psycho. It's scary."

"Totally, I heard Mrs. Harrington was pregnant, two lives gone just like that."

"That poor girl, only twenty-four, lost her parents a few years back, and now she's gone, too."

Victoria and Isabella were always the hot topic online. One day Victoria was the saint, the next day Isabella. But now, with one dead, it was clear who was who.

That night, Eloise was out for dinner, overhearing the chatter from the table behind her. She clutched her chest, feeling like she couldn't breathe.

When she got home, she couldn't help but spill her guilt to Arabella, "It's all my fault."

Arabella tried to comfort her, "Mom, don't think like that. Look at you this past year; you've been hospitalized several times."

"I just want to die," Eloise said.

Listening to Arabella, she felt nothing but guilt.

How could she let Victoria and her parents die one after another because of her?

"Where's Alexander?" Eloise quickly asked again.

"He just got back from a business trip today. Said he was meeting friends tonight and wouldn't be coming back," Arabella replied patiently.

"He doesn't want to see me, does he? It's my fault his family's a mess."

"Mom, please don't think like that. He even brought you a gift. You know how much he loves you. I think his friends probably set this up to cheer him up," Arabella said.

Thinking about this time last year, everyone was happy, looking forward to the little one who might be a girl.

Mason came in from outside, "Mrs. Arabella Harrington, Mrs. Eloise Harrington, it's snowing outside."

Arabella and Eloise sat on the sofa, looking out together.

Eloise couldn't help but murmur again, "If it weren't for that accident, I'd be a great-grandmother now."

Arabella couldn't help but choke up, but they had ultimately lost that chance.

"Arabella, if Victoria were standing in front of me now, telling me she wanted to divorce Alex, I'd totally agree."

"Mom."

"If we hadn't forced them together, maybe she'd be happily married to Adrian or some other guy she liked by now," Eloise sighed.

"Mom, don't say that. You forget they were in love."

"Is love worth losing everything?" Eloise looked at the snow outside, suddenly recalling Victoria smiling and telling her it was okay, smiling and telling her to live well.

When Victoria came to see her again, she probably knew she might not survive.

How could she be so determined to show up in that dangerous place?

Victoria was so sweet, and she wanted to keep her, but she didn't want Victoria's life; she wanted Victoria to be happy, but...

The snow outside fell heavier, and Eloise's heart grew colder. She wondered how she hadn't died. She hated that devil Isabella.

Arabella's phone rang. She answered and heard the person on the other end speak, only to respond softly, "Didn't I tell you? Let's talk about this later."

After she hung up, Eloise asked, "What's going on?"

"He wants to introduce a girlfriend to Alexander," Arabella explained.

Eloise's heart skipped a beat but quickly and firmly said, "Absolutely not."

"I get it, but Mom, he's living alone now..." Arabella hesitated.

"I said absolutely not," Eloise said angrily.
