Chapter 261 Her Gentle Voice
On the brink of tears, Victoria swiftly clutched the slip of paper, pinching her leg with force to stifle her impending sobs.
"Why don't we exchange contact information, and I'll help Victoria transfer the money to you," Jason suggested.
Quickly, Victoria turned her head, hastily wiping away the tears that had slipped down her cheeks. She stood there, a picture of humility, her demeanor calm and composed.
Observing Victoria's evasive actions, Alexander's gaze hardened, his anger directed at Jason. "What did you just say?" he demanded, his voice echoing in the sudden silence that enveloped them.
The atmosphere grew tense, and Jason fell quiet, a sense of hostility pervading the air. The intensity of it frightened him, and he chose to remain silent.
Only then did Alexander shift his attention back to Victoria.
In such a short span of time, he hadn't anticipated that she would allow another man to stay at her place. The thought sent him spiraling, teetering on the edge of control. He glanced at Jason again, who instinctively recoiled, a shiver running down his spine.
Seeing Jason's fear and Victoria's downcast eyes, Alexander couldn't help but wonder if she deemed his presence unnecessary. Without uttering a word, he turned on his heel and departed.
Victoria, however, remained rooted at the doorway. As she watched him drive away, her heart swelled with a warmth that was tinged with pain. She clutched the list in her hand, her gaze lowered, yet she found herself glancing in his direction once more. It was as if her heart was racing alongside his departing car.
She was certain that she could forget Alexander.
"Victoria," a voice called out to her, breaking her reverie.
Instinctively, she turned towards Jason, finally mustering the courage to bring her hand from behind her back. She wiped away the fresh tears that had fallen, unsure of the reason behind her sorrow. Alexander might have misconstrued the situation, but it no longer mattered.
With that thought, Victoria spun around decisively. "Let's go back."
However, Jason was visibly shaken by her tears. Despite the fact that they couldn't become husband and wife, they could still be friends. But here she was, crying over another man in his presence.
An image flashed in Jason's mind. Was that man Alexander? The confident, imposing figure from earlier?
Victoria returned, a smile gracing her lips as she tucked the list back into her pocket. She then resumed her card game, her demeanor light and carefree.
Jason, seated on the couch, massaged his temples as he watched them continue their game. He couldn't help but ask Victoria, "Vicky, are you in love with Alexander?"
"Yes, I still love him," Victoria confessed.
Jason let out a laugh before squeezing in to join the game. "How about we try dating?"
Victoria looked at him, puzzled, and asked, "Aren't you afraid that I will bring you unhappiness?"
Jason was taken aback. It was true that his family cared about this. However, after this encounter, he realized that she wasn't as detestable as he had initially thought. In fact, Victoria seemed somewhat cute!
She was attractive, with a pleasant personality and a good figure. But most importantly, he found himself drawn to her.

Later, as her friends retreated to the guest rooms for the night, Victoria sat on the edge of the bed, absentmindedly fiddling with her ring. 'Has Alexander left? He must have,' she thought.
She recalled the list and the message from Jasmine. Quickly, she unlocked her phone.
Meanwhile, Alexander lounged in the luxurious suite of the hotel, nursing a drink, sleep the furthest thing from his mind. Despite the ten-hour flight, the thought of Victoria with another man elicited a bitter smile. He lifted his glass, downing the contents in one go, the liquid leaving a bitter taste in his throat.
His phone buzzed, drawing his attention. A few seconds later, he picked it up, a notification for a mobile transfer displayed on the screen. The sight amused him.
Did Victoria genuinely believe he had traveled all this way to collect the final payment? 'Foolish woman!' he thought, a hint of disdain in his mind.
Perhaps they should proceed with the divorce.
With that thought, Alexander dialed Victoria's number.
Victoria sat on the bed, her phone clutched in her hand. When she saw the number flashing on her screen, she hesitated for a moment before answering the call and slowly bringing the phone to her ear.
"Hello?" Alexander's voice was slightly hoarse. When he heard her gentle voice, he found himself unable to utter the words he had intended to say - "Let's go back and finalize the divorce."
