Chapter 715 If Tonight Was Their First Meeting
Victoria's hand shot out and grabbed Alexander's shoulder. As he helped her up, it almost looked like they were hugging.
She couldn't ignore the icy vibe coming off him, and it just pissed her off more. Or maybe she was just mad at how powerless she felt.
It seemed like no matter what, he always had the upper hand.
She felt like a puppet, with him pulling all the strings. She used to love him so much.
Tears started to fill Victoria's eyes. Looking at him now, it was like seeing her own stupid past.
No, how could she call it stupid? Alexander was her ex-husband, after all. At least they had a beautiful daughter.
But now they were about to go to war over their daughter.
Tears rolled down Victoria's face again, but she couldn't help but crack a small smile.
In the end, they were just gonna be enemies, always hurting each other.
Alexander's gaze stayed steady as he looked at her. Only after helping her up and slowly letting go did he look away.
He walked over to Eve and picked up Strawberry, his voice turning super serious and firm, saying, "I can't let you live alone with Strawberry."
With that, he walked off with Strawberry in his arms.
Victoria stood there, choking back her sobs, silently watching.
She didn't follow him. She knew they were gonna clash over Strawberry.
Alexander carried Strawberry out of the restaurant, wrapping her in his coat as he walked farther and farther away.
Strawberry, all cozy in Alexander's arms, was still too young to get any of this.
But as Alexander felt the warmth of Strawberry in his arms, his heart felt like it was being ripped apart.
Victoria's look just now broke his heart. Did she really not care about him anymore?
Victoria left the restaurant and went with Eve to VicLiv's workplace.
Olivia was on a business trip and was back in the evening. Both of them were currently breastfeeding their kids and eating light meals. They found a cozy little private room in a restaurant and started chatting.
Eve stood outside, feeling bored, when she suddenly heard a familiar voice.
"Eve."
Edward greeted her in a teasing tone.
Eve could only respond seriously, "Mr. Sinclair."
With Edward were Alexander and Benjamin.
Eve didn't know why the three of them were there, but she was sure it had something to do with Victoria.
The three guys didn't go into the private room; they sat in the regular seats upstairs.
From that spot, they could see Victoria as soon as she came out. Especially Alexander, who could see her right away.
Frank had said that Alexander actually cared about Victoria and couldn't let her go.
But she couldn't see it.
If he still loved Victoria, why would he hurt her?
If Alexander loved Victoria, shouldn't he be trying to make her happy, begging for her forgiveness?
Eve couldn't understand; the relationship between the couple seemed so complicated.
But matters of the heart were indeed quite troublesome, so she preferred to avoid them.
She suddenly thought of Frank, but quickly pushed the thought away.
Eve heard footsteps and immediately turned to look in the direction of the sound. Seeing it was just a waiter, she said nothing.
She opened the door and watched the waiter deliver the food, then personally closed the door again, like she did every time.
Olivia held Victoria's wrist and said with concern, "Do you not eat all day?"
"How could I not eat? Strawberry needs to be breastfed, and I've been super diligent."
"But you're so thin, almost just skin and bones," Olivia murmured.
Having also recently given birth, Olivia had packed on nearly 11 pounds to make sure her kid was well-fed, while Victoria had dropped about 11 pounds. Victoria wasn't overweight to begin with.
Victoria said with a slight smile, "I don't really care about that now, Olivia. I'm thinking about hiring a lawyer."
"Why do you want to see a lawyer?"
"Alexander probably won't give Strawberry back to me, so there are only two options," Victoria explained seriously.
Olivia listened closely. "One is to hire a lawyer, but given my health and financial situation, the chances of winning aren't great."
"And the other?" Olivia asked again.
"The other is to play the pity card."
"Play the pity card?"
"Yeah, to him and to the elders of the Harrington family."
"That sounds like it might have a better chance," Olivia thought for a moment and asked.
"Yes, but I'm also worried it might upset the elders and affect their health," Victoria expressed her concern.
"Honestly, I think Mrs. Eloise Harrington has a pretty strong constitution. She handled your big issue back then. But is there a third option?"
"What?"
"You can get back together," Olivia said seriously.
But reconciliation was impossible.
Victoria thought for a moment and asked, "You know about our divorce, right?"
"I heard that you two have already divorced, but even divorced couples can reconcile," Olivia continued.
"A good marriage brings happiness, but a bad one only drains you. Alexander and I are the latter," Victoria appreciated Olivia's good intentions, but she was convinced they wouldn't reconcile.
"But you two fell in love at first sight," Olivia remembered what Victoria had once told her.
Victoria could only manage a wry smile after hearing that. If she had known it would come to this, it would have been better if they had never met.
"Let's take Strawberry and Orange out to play tomorrow. We haven't seen each other's kids yet," Olivia suggested, seeing that Victoria wasn't interested in talking about relationships.
"Sure," Victoria nodded.
After finishing their meal, they left.
The three men were eating and instinctively looked toward the door when they heard it open.
"Mrs. Harrington, Mrs. Sinclair," Eve saw them come out and immediately stood next to Victoria.
Olivia saw Alexander and the others and quickly grabbed Victoria's hand, asking as they walked, "What are you doing here?"
"Honey, what a coincidence?" Edward smiled, standing up and putting his arm around Olivia's shoulder. Then he looked at the very thin, short-haired girl beside her and asked in confusion, "Are you Victoria?"
Victoria was momentarily stunned, then said with a smile, "I guess I should be."
Edward thought to himself, 'I didn't expect you to have a sense of humor.'
"Let me introduce you to a couple of my friends."
Edward let go of Olivia, walked over to Victoria, and put his hand on her shoulder, saying, "This is my wife's good friend Victoria. This is Benjamin."
Victoria was puzzled by his actions but politely smiled and nodded at Benjamin.
Benjamin said with a slight smile, "Hello, I'm Benjamin."
"And this is Alexander. He's a bit cold, but he's not a bad person. Mr. Harrington, say hello," Edward deliberately looked at Alexander with a teasing tone.
Only then did Alexander turn his gaze to Victoria.
If tonight were their first meeting...
"Hello, Alexander, can you..."
