Chapter 111 He Said "Foolishness"

A glimmer of hope ignited in Victoria's heart at his acquiescence, prompting her to lift her gaze to meet his.

"Shall we stay here for the night?" Alexander proposed.

"Am I to take the couch, then?" she questioned.

"Foolishness," he retorted with a scoff, rising from his seat and striding towards the bathroom.

Victoria was left in silence, contemplating his words. Was it truly foolish to suggest he take the bed? Indeed, it seemed so.

Had he genuinely agreed to the divorce?

A wave of exhilaration coursed through her at the thought. Were they truly getting divorced? His agreement had been delivered with such calm rationality, as though he had thoroughly considered the proposition.

An inexplicable joy welled up within Victoria, and she found herself smiling at the intricate crystal chandelier overhead as she reclined. However, her mirth was short-lived, her cheeks soon flushing a deep crimson. Who would have thought that the sound of the shower could be heard from the bedroom?

By some twist of fate, her gaze shifted, revealing a startling truth. Was the bathroom transparent? Victoria couldn't comprehend what she had witnessed; flustered, she averted her gaze, her face aflame and heart pounding like a drum.

What had she just seen? It was as though her eyes had been deceived.

Alexander seemed to realize this and promptly activated a switch, restoring her much-needed privacy.

But then...

"Vicky."

Five minutes later, the bathroom door swung open, and a voice, both familiar and alien, echoed in the room.

"Vicky?"

She turned her head. "I'm here."

"There are pajamas in the closet; could you fetch me a pair?""…"

Victoria was at a loss for words. How could he have forgotten his pajamas again? She lay there, flustered and uncertain of her next course of action. She touched her burning face; she must have been as red as a beet. What was she to do now?

"Should I just step out as I am?" Alexander's voice echoed calmly from the doorway.

"No need, I'll fetch them right away," Victoria responded, quickly rising from the bed and slipping into the walk-in closet.

Less than a minute later, Victoria emerged, clutching a white bathrobe. "Here."

Alexander, wrapped in a bath towel around his waist, found his gaze involuntarily dropping as Victoria approached. Despite her best efforts, her eyes were drawn to his toned abdomen, causing her to lower her gaze even further.

The faint scent that clung to her caught Alexander off guard, and he noticed a fleeting intensity in her eyes. Lowering his gaze to her bare feet, he swiftly ushered her into the bathroom.

"Why aren't you wearing slippers?"

"Huh?"

Victoria, her mind feeling clouded, found herself unable to think of anything else when suddenly backed against the wall.

Alexander watched her, a sudden smile playing on his lips. Her nervousness was palpable. He observed her face, flushed with warmth that spread to her delicate ears, even down her neck...

He was tempted to kiss her again, but the thought of her fear made him hold back. Gently, he released her and bent down.

Victoria, pinned against the wall, looked down, half-expecting some audacious move from him. But instead, he simply removed his own slippers and, taking hold of her warm ankle, instructed, "Lift your foot."

Victoria complied mechanically. The dampness inside his slippers felt uncomfortable, yet she dared not protest.

Alexander rose swiftly, retrieving the bathrobe that had fallen during their intimate moment, and whispered, "Stay in here until you've finished showering."

Victoria, still dazed and reminding herself not to peek inappropriately, heard Alexander exit. She slumped against the wall, her legs weak.

Later, she quietly grabbed a fresh bathrobe from the closet and returned to the bathroom, taking care to move lightly so as not to disturb him.
