Chapter 973 Scapegoat
"I didn't."
Daisy felt something was off, but she couldn't figure it out. All she could do was deny it.
"You can even seduce your teacher, and you wouldn't do something like this? Did you sleep with another man while carrying my child? You slut."
Elliot clenched his fist, ready to hit her.
"Sit back down."
Ryan lit another cigarette and glanced at Elliot before taking a drag.
Elliot knew he wasn't a match for Ryan, so he sat back down, thinking he'd teach Daisy a lesson once these people left.
"You might as well confess. It'll save you some pain. Otherwise, your skin will be ruined."
Ryan took a slow drag from his cigarette, watching the glowing red tip, and then pressed it against her leg.
Daisy felt a sharp pain as another burn mark appeared on her leg.
She was trembling all over, terrified, not understanding why she was so unlucky.
Elliot was watching her to make her bear a child for the Cook Family, and now these people were forcing her to admit she had kidnapped Victoria.
She tried to stay calm, looking at the burn on her leg, her breathing becoming erratic.
She wanted to confess, but she had to consider the consequences.
Isabella was in prison. If these people were Alexander's men, admitting to kidnapping Victoria could mean a few years in prison at best, or life imprisonment at worst.
She'd heard that female prisoners were very brutal. What kind of torture would she face then?
Daisy trembled, looking at Ryan. "Did Mr. Harrington send you?"
"That's not for you to ask. Your job is to tell the truth."
Ryan said as he turned on the recording function on his phone and pressed the glowing cigarette tip against her leg again, making a pattern with the burns.
Daisy felt like she was going to die from the pain. She had never suffered much in her life, and her skin was perfect.
"But I really don't know where Victoria is."
Sweat dripped from her forehead as she spoke to Ryan.
For the first time since entering, Ryan's expression changed. He stared at her intently. "You just need to confess."
Daisy was puzzled. Elliot understood that these people were looking for a scapegoat.
He glanced at Daisy. He had no feelings for her.
Since marrying him, her heart had never been with him. She always thought about Alexander and messed around with other men, but now she was carrying the child he wanted.
Elliot thought about telling these people that forcing her to confess was useless since she was pregnant, and any sentence would be delayed. But then he thought, what if they beat her until she miscarried...
He remained silent.
After all, the Cook Family wanted an heir.
"Will Victoria die?" Daisy asked weakly.
She didn't know how much time had passed. She was exhausted, and her leg above the knee was covered in burns. The cigarette burns no longer satisfied Ryan's sadistic tendencies, and he picked up a knife.
"You better pray she dies. Otherwise, she'll kill the person who made her suffer—you."
Daisy realized things were more complicated than she thought.
Ryan's eyes were full of malice. She glanced at Elliot, and for some reason, she hoped he would save her.
"Will you save me?"
Daisy asked Elliot through her tears.
Elliot felt a pang in his heart, but shook his head. "No."
Daisy's heart shattered.
She wanted to hold on a little longer, hoping for a miracle.
But after just three cuts on her leg, she couldn't take it anymore. She didn't care about the torture in prison because the pain she was enduring now was unbearable.
Soon, a recording spread online.
Daisy confessed, "Yes, I kidnapped Victoria. I had her crushed and thrown into the sea."
The news spread quickly, and online comments surged.
Ursa and Jerome immediately went to the Harrington Mansion.
"That's impossible. I swear on my life that Daisy wouldn't obey to marry Elliot if she dared to do something like this."
"Daisy confessed herself, and you're denying it?"
Eloise was furious, pointing at Jerome.
"Of course, she confessed because she was coerced."
Jerome thought of Daisy's injuries and was livid.
He regretted ever suggesting Daisy seduce Alexander. His one comment had led Daisy to have wild ideas, resulting in this mess.
"Coerced? By whom?" Eloise demanded.
"Mrs. Eloise Harrington, you must know that Mr. Alexander Harrington sent people to the Cook Family and tortured Daisy until she confessed."
"What?"
Jerome's words made Eloise frown.
Alexander got involved?
"Why would Alexander force Daisy to confess? Do you have any evidence?" Diana questioned.
"Because the leader of those men was very respectful to Mr. Alexander Harrington and knew a lot about the Harrington family."
"Alexander would never force a confession out of Daisy."
Diana was angry at Jerome's words. She didn't believe Alexander would do that.
While it was possible Alexander would send people to question Daisy, forcing a confession was out of the question.
"See for yourself."
Ursa showed photos of Daisy taken before the police took her away. Ursa wanted to keep evidence to seek justice for Daisy.
Everyone was shocked by Daisy's injuries.
"I'll call Alexander."
Maximus sensed something was off.
This method did seem like a forced confession.
If that were the case, the truth would be hard to determine.
Alexander didn't answer, and Maximus frowned. "Jerome, don't worry. I'll make sure Daisy isn't wrongfully imprisoned until we get to the bottom of this."
Jerome felt relieved. Though he wanted to stand up for Daisy, he said, "Please have someone take care of Daisy. The person who kidnapped Mrs. Victoria Harrington must be a big shot."
Jerome meant that Daisy didn't have the capability.
Arabella and Brett had been silent, they also sensed something was off.
"If Daisy really did it, we'll accept it and send her to prison. But Daisy doesn't have that kind of ability."
Ursa began to cry softly again.
"You don't need to cry in our house. Daisy would monitor Victoria, imitate her, and conspire with Isabella in prison. Do you really know what kind of person she is?"
Diana was furious about the recording.
