Chapter 886 The New Perfume
Not Victoria.
Before dawn, the quiet bedroom was interrupted by the sound of a phone ringing.
Victoria coughed as she slowly got up and answered, "Hello?"
Hearing no response, she glanced at the string of numbers on the phone screen. Just as she was about to speak, she couldn't help but cough again. Trying to suppress her voice, she continued, "Is there something you need?"
There was still no reply from the other end. Victoria wondered if Alexander might have accidentally dialed her number.
But hadn't he blocked her?
Puzzled, Victoria hung up and started coughing again.
Eve, draped in a coat, entered the room with a glass of water. "Mrs. Harrington, have some water."
"Okay, did I wake you?"
The Harrington family's elders had just left with Strawberry, and Victoria had caught a severe cold, coughing throughout the night.
"No, I just went to bed early last night and woke up early," Eve explained.
Victoria drank the water, feeling a bit better in her throat. Just as she was about to speak to Eve again, Eve's phone rang.
Eve pulled out her phone from her pajama pocket and saw it was Alexander calling. She immediately stood up straight but didn't forget to tell Victoria, "It's Mr. Harrington."
"Go ahead and answer it," Victoria said.
"Okay."
Eve went to take the call, while Victoria thought that Alexander must have dialed the wrong number earlier.
When Eve returned later, Victoria didn't ask what it was about, and Eve didn't say. Instead, she spent the whole day discussing Victoria's diet with the chef.
Frank was playing chess with Victoria. As Victoria held a chess piece, she suddenly remembered the feeling of being followed the other day and mentioned it, "When I first came back, I don't know if I was being paranoid, but I felt like someone was following me."
"What? And after that?" Frank frowned and asked.
"After that, I didn't go far. But when Olivia and the others came, while we were shopping, I had a similar feeling. However, I always suspected I was just being paranoid."
Victoria placed the chess piece on the board and continued speaking.
"If you need to go out these days, let Eve accompany you. I'll follow from a distance." Frank said.
"Okay." Victoria agreed.
But after thinking for a moment, she added, "I'm worried about Strawberry being in danger. If it's just me, there's no need to be too anxious."
"Don't say things like that. Frank and I are here to protect you. If anything happens to you, how can we explain it to Mr. Harrington?"
"I'll leave a will. He won't make things difficult for you."
Victoria said calmly.
Eve's heart skipped a beat, feeling as if Victoria had already prepared for her death.
"Mrs. Harrington, please don't say things like that again. We're more worried about something happening to you than being in trouble with Mr. Harrington."
Eve sat beside Victoria, speaking with concern.
"Alright, I won't say it again." Victoria agreed gently.
"If I lose this game, how about I treat everyone to Spicy Stir-fry tonight?"
"You're this sick; it's better to eat something light at home."
Eve remembered Alexander's instructions and reminded her.
"Maybe sweating it out with some Spicy Stir-fry will make me feel better," Victoria said.
Frank later whispered to Eve, "Alexander is so far away from here, don't worry."
"Alright." Eve felt reassured.
Everyone needed to have something they could decide for themselves, even if it was just having some Spicy Stir-fry.
A summer evening at The Harrington Mansion.
Alexander was called back, and the whole family sat on the couch. Arabella said, "When we came back, we promised Victoria that we would take Strawberry to stay with her for a few days every month. The Harrington family keeps its word, but your grandmother and I haven't been feeling well these past few days. So, will you take Strawberry over, or will you find someone else to do it?"
"Then don't send Strawberry over," Alexander said indifferently.
Arabella didn't expect him to agree immediately, so she added, "Then what about the Harrington family's credibility?"
"I haven't restricted Victoria's freedom to come and go."
Alexander replied.
Brett sighed upon hearing this, "What have you restricted then? Alexander, you're even more domineering than your father!"
Alexander lowered his eyes and didn't retort.
Arabella continued, "Just go yourself. You can say I forced you to go."
"I can't go." Alexander maintained his stance.
"What are you busy with? Busy with that married woman? You didn't like Daisy before she got married, and now that she's married, you like her?"
Eloise, though patient, was worried that Alexander was making a mistake.
"What married woman?" Maximus asked, puzzled.
Maximus hadn't heard about it yet.
"Someone saw him at the club, and Daisy was there too," Eloise explained to Maximus.
Maximus turned to Alexander, "Is this true?"
"We just happened to run into each other."
"Regardless, you're both married. You should set some boundaries with each other."
"There's no need," Alexander said.
Maximus felt a pang in his heart.
"Are you trying to drive me crazy? What do you mean there's no need? Either divorce Victoria and do whatever you want, or be a man and apologize to Victoria. It's not like you haven't swallowed your pride before. Why are you so stubborn this time?"
Arabella was infuriated by Alexander's responses too.
"I have something to do, I need to go."
Alexander's phone rang, and after glancing at it, he immediately got up to leave.
"Alexander," Arabella called out in anger.
"What are we going to do?" Eloise was on the verge of tears, feeling heartbroken.
Eloise felt for both Victoria and Alexander.
In Eloise's eyes, Alexander was just pretending to be indifferent.
As soon as Alexander left, he went straight to the club.
Daisy was sitting in the lounge area as usual. When she saw Alexander arrive, she immediately pretended to coincidentally get up and greet him, "Mr. Harrington, here we are again."
Alexander stared at her for a few seconds before striding upstairs.
Daisy tried to follow but was pulled into a private room by someone coming out.
"What are you doing?"
"I should ask you what you're doing."
"We're only in a formal marriage. What does it matter to you?"
"Do you think it's that easy to get into Alexander's bed?"
"None of your business," Daisy said.
"Of course, as long as you don't interfere with me, I won't interfere with your disgusting affairs."
"We're both not good people, are we?"
Daisy thought the man in front of her was even dirtier.
Elliot smiled, "Indeed."
Elliot let go of her, and Daisy immediately ran out.
She was now very good at singing, mimicking Victoria's voice.
Tonight, she had also sprayed a very fragrant perfume, which she had painstakingly found out was the same one Victoria used.
Alexander was playing cards with William, Edward, Benjamin, and Sebastian when Daisy walked in with a tray of drinks.
They were all sensitive to scents and immediately noticed her.
She just smiled and poured drinks for them, saying, "If my family falls on hard times, would I qualify to work here as a waitress?"
"If your family falls on hard times, there's still the Cook Family."
Sebastian said.
"The Cook Family? I can't count on them."
Daisy always felt a bit aggrieved when talking about the Cook Family.
Everyone there knew why she married into the Cook Family.
Yet now, they all acted as if they were completely unaware.
"I changed my perfume. How do you like the scent?"
