Chapter 592 Will You Marry Me for My Grandmother‘s Sake?
It was at the new house.
After dinner, a black sedan slowly drove in.
Eloise leaned against the headboard, noticing the light outside the window, and asked weakly, "Is Alexander back?"
"I think so." Victoria was accompanying her, looking out the window.
The car stopped a bit far away, and it wasn't until Alexander got out that she could confirm it was him.
This day felt like an eternity to her. She couldn't bear such responsibility for Eloise.
Soon, Erica came in to report, "Mr. Harrington is back."
Alexander had already changed from yesterday's shirt and trousers into a sharp black suit as he walked through the door.
Seeing him come in, Victoria slowly stood up from the bedside and stepped aside.
He stode directly towards the bedside, sat where she had just been sitting, held Eloise's hand, and smiled, "Grandma, are you upset again?"
"Are you just waiting for me to die?" Eloise spoke to him discontentedly.
"What are you talking about? How could I think that?" Alexander said, then turned to ask the person standing at the door, "Has my grandmother had dinner?"
"Yes, she has," Erica quickly responded.
"Why didn't you answer our call this morning?" Eloise asked.
"Sorry, I was in a meeting," Alexander replied.
Eloise was angry, "Then later..."
"Didn't I answer later?" Alexander interrupted her, turning to look at Victoria standing beside him for confirmation.
Victoria remained silent, lowering her eyes and listening quietly, which was a tacit agreement.
However, Eloise was still angry. "What's going on with you and that Isabella? Do you love Victoria or not?"
Alexander looked at Eloise, who was about to cry, but he just smiled and didn't respond.
"Yes or no?" Eloise was anxious, almost pouting.
"Please don't worry about our matters, okay? How about I take you back to the Harrington Mansion?"
"No. I'm not going back. Don't try to send me away and then bully Victoria again. From today until your wedding day, I'm staying here. I won't rest in peace until I see Victoria in her wedding dress." Eloise immediately rejected his suggestion.
Alexander sighed, then turned to look at Victoria.
However she never lifted her head. He asked softly, "How about you try on the wedding dress for my grandmother now?"
Victoria looked up at him in confusion.
She thought, 'Try on? For his grandmother? Those words are so infuriating.'
"What are you talking about? Do I want to see it now?" Eloise glared at Alexander.
Alexander replied, "I'm just afraid you can't wait."
He glanced at Victoria and then turned back to Eloise.
Eloise angrily slapped him a few times. "Are you trying to drive me crazy? I'm telling you, making me angry won't do you any good."
Alexander said, "You won't die; you haven't held your great-grandchild yet, right?"
"Oh, my poor great-grandchild. I don't even know if I'll live to see them." Hearing about the great-grandchild, Eloise suddenly started to cry sadly.
Victoria watched for a while, feeling that Eloise's mood swings were too intense. She couldn't help but walk up and gently poke Alexander's shoulder.
Alexander turned around, looking displeased and confused. "What's up?"
She reminded him softly, "Did you forget what I told you on the phone?"
She had mentioned on the phone that Eloise shouldn't get too emotional.
Alexander said coldly, "Don't worry. She's my grandmother. What you can't take responsibility for, I can."
Victoria felt a pang in her heart and said nothing more.
Eloise suddenly became curious. "What responsibility?"
"Nothing. Just take care. I just got back from out of town, so I'll find something to eat first."
"Victoria, I saw you didn't eat much tonight either. You go too." Hearing that he was going to eat, Eloise immediately called Victoria to go as well.
"Okay," Victoria agreed.
Before Alexander left, he said coldly, "Don't force yourself."
Victoria lowered her head and followed him.
She felt that their issues were minor if Eloise's health was really that bad.
Victoria followed him to the dining room.
Alexander was looking for food inside. She walked over and opened the pot next to the one he had opened. "Grandma left you some chicken soup."
Alexander glanced at the pot and said indifferently, "No need to trouble yourself, Ms. Kensington."
Victoria turned to look at him, her expression tinged with confusion at being addressed as "Ms. Kensington."
He took a bowl and served the soup, actually two bowls.
When Victoria came to her senses, he had already served two bowls of soup and was carrying them to the dining table.
"Please get two spoons." Alexander put down the bowls and sat down.
Victoria not only got the spoons but also forks, serving some chicken into a big bowl. It had been cooked until it was very tender.
She thought he might like to try it.
Alexander didn't refuse. Seeing her bring it to the table, he started eating.
Victoria sat across from him, silently holding the bowl of soup he had served, and couldn't help but ask, "Do you know?"
"Know what?" Alexander didn't look up, taking a bite of chicken before asking.
"Just what I told you at noon; the doctor said Grandma's health is very bad."
"Isn't that just how it is when people get old?" Alexander said indifferently, still not looking at her.
Victoria saw Erica walking over and, afraid she would hear, got up and walked to his side, whispering, "Do Dad, Mom, and Grandpa know?"
Alexander, holding a piece of chicken leg, suddenly seemed to lose his appetite. He turned and looked coldly at the woman who had suddenly come close to him.
She was only about one inch away, so close that he could almost feel her heartbeat.
But soon, he said coldly, "I don't know."
Victoria felt he was excessively cold and couldn't help but ask, "Then what should we do?"
Alexander asked indifferently, "We? What do you mean?"
"If Grandma's health worsens because we don't get married, then..." She said this with her head down, not daring to look at him.
Alexander knew she couldn't bear that responsibility.
"You wouldn't marry me just because of the elders' health, so why pretend to care about them?" he said coldly, sipping the chicken soup with his elegant fingers.
"What?" Victoria looked up at him in surprise.
She thought, 'Pretending to care?'
The dining room suddenly fell silent.
Victoria felt her eyes getting watery, her mouth sour, but she couldn't say anything.
"Or are you trying to tell me that you're willing to marry me just so Grandma can live a few more years?" Alexander suddenly turned and looked straight at her, coldly questioning.
