Chapter 1013 Public

'Is he home? Today is his birthday. Maybe he's got a bunch of people over celebrating right now.' Diana thought.

She held the gift in her arms as she walked to the door and peeked inside, unsure if she should go in.

What if Juliette was in there?

But if that were the case, why didn't he close the door?

When did he develop this habit? It was not good.

Diana decided she would remind him to be more mindful of his privacy in the future.

Her phone rang, and seeing it was her classmate's brother, she hung up immediately.

"Diana."

Hearing the voice, Diana turned around instantly.

Curtis was standing at the door, looking at the gift she was holding.

The gift was beautifully wrapped by a store assistant.

Curtis glanced at the gift and asked, "Is that for me?"

Diana lowered her head, feeling awkward.

She should have answered the call; she could have pretended to be busy and just nodded before leaving.

"Yeah, it's your birthday. I had some of your cake, so it's only right to give you a gift."

She smiled and walked forward stiffly.

Curtis didn't move. He waited until she handed over the gift before reaching out to take it. "Thanks."

"Oh, come on, good neighbors and all that. By the way, are you heading out?"

"I was planning to." He said.

Diana noticed he seemed a bit lost for words, so she added, "I was about to leave, too."

"Just to bring me a gift? You came all this way?"

"Of course not, I was in the neighborhood..."

Her phone rang again. She glanced at it and, after a brief hesitation, answered, "Hey, Mr. Sharp."

Curtis heard her call the person Mr. Sharp and said, "Thanks for the gift, I'll take it."

He turned and went back into his house.

Diana opened her door. "Mr. Sharp, how did you know about my car accident?"

"You had a car accident?"

She didn't even have time to close the door before Curtis rushed in, grabbed her arm, and looked her up and down.

Ignoring her phone conversation, he demanded, "Are you hurt?"

Diana forgot everything. She couldn't hear what the person on the other end of the line was saying.

Seeing how concerned he was, how could she not overthink it?

"I'm fine, I just wrecked Alexander's car." She said.

Her eyes inexplicably felt heavy and hot, blurring her vision.

She was angry at herself for feeling this way, and even angrier at him for being entangled with other women while showing concern for her.

Curtis, hearing she was okay, slowly let go of her and smiled. "You need to be more careful. Weren't you on the phone? Did he hang up?"

Diana snapped back to reality and listened to her phone. There was no sound.

"He hung up."

She put down her phone and looked at him again.

"Weren't you going out?" She asked.

"How can I go out when you've had a car accident?" He replied.

Diana looked at him skeptically.

Was he worried about her?

"Do you want me to get into an accident too?"

He laughed, then started to leave, but turned back at the door. "Have you had dinner?"

Diana shook her head.

"Let's eat together. I can't go out now anyway. I'll cook some noodles, okay?"

"Okay."

Diana agreed.

No matter what, she was getting a free dinner.

While he was cooking, she walked over and looked at the gift on the counter, then at him.

Curtis glanced at her and then at the gift she bought. "It's wrapped so nicely. What kind of fancy thing is it? Open it."

"It's for you. You open it."

"I'm kinda busy here."

He reminded her.

Diana sighed inwardly at the sight of him cooking in a dress shirt, but still wanted him to open the bow.

She held it up to his face. "Come on, open it."

Curtis took one look and immediately bent down to bite it open.

When they were together, she often made him do things when his hands were full.

After he untied the bow, Diana opened the gift.

"Won't you be disappointed if it's not fancy enough?"

"Nope."

Curtis said.

Diana took off the lid and placed the box in front of him.

"Giving me a watch, does Mr. Sharp approve?"

"Do you want it or not?"

"Put it on."

He poured the chopped scallions into the pot, then handed her his wrist while holding the spatula with the other hand. "Thanks."

Diana looked at his beautiful wrist and felt a pang in her heart. "Isn't it kinda inappropriate?"

"You already gave it to me. What's inappropriate about it?"

"I'm afraid you'll think it's too expensive."

"Who told me to have a rich ex-girlfriend who's so generous?"

"Can't you stop teasing me for once?"

She muttered but put the watch on his wrist.

Two bowls of noodles, topped with sauce, smelled delicious.

She scooped a spoonful of soup, not drinking it immediately. "The birthday boy should have the first bite."

"Thanks."

Curtis stood next to her, bent down, and drank the soup from her spoon while holding her wrist.

Diana watched him silently, unable to help but sigh inwardly.

He was too comfortable.

Did he think exes could be friends?

And even share a spoon?

Curtis sat across from her and asked before eating, "By the way, how did you get into a car accident?"

"The slope on the way back was a bit slippery. I lost control going downhill."

"So luxury cars aren't safe either?"

"Yeah."

Diana didn't deny it.

Curtis stared at her for a moment, sensing she was in a bad mood. "Are you upset because you can't go on a date?"

"Yeah, how did you know?"

Diana lowered her head to eat.

She didn't like talking about this with him.

"Spending time with me must be a real letdown."

He said, then lowered his head to eat as well.

Diana stopped and looked at him, puzzled.

Did he not understand?

Diana thought about what her elders said about not being hung up on one person and reminded herself that they had already broken up.

Maybe she could give her classmate's brother a chance.

After all, becoming that girl's sister-in-law would always give her an edge over her.

Yosef Sharp, just hearing the name sounded gentlemanly, unlike Curtis in front of her, always flirting with female teachers and students.

They said teachers often develop feelings for students or other teachers, rarely with people from other professions.

Maybe they were just meant to be together for those few years.

"So, where's Juliette? Why isn't she celebrating your birthday with you?"

Diana thought for a moment and shifted the topic to him.

"Juliette?"

Curtis was puzzled, guessing her thoughts. His phone rang, and he smiled. "Speak of the devil."

He answered the call naturally, "Hey, Juliette, thanks."

"There's no rush. We can talk about it at school tomorrow. Okay, bye."

Curtis hung up and said, "She said she prepared a gift."

"Aren't you two publicly dating?"

He called her Juliette so smoothly.

"Why should we publicly date?"
