Chapter 118 I Hope You’ll Divorce Alex Immediately
Victoria responded to Isabella's words with a practiced smile. After twenty-three years of existence, she had mastered the art of feigning politeness. Yet, there was no need for them to masquerade as familiar acquaintances.
Predictably, the polite smile on Isabella's face evaporated quickly, and she cut to the chase. "You're aware I'm over two months pregnant and stress is not an option for me. The doctor has advised me to maintain a positive mindset. Vicky, please help me."
Victoria's hands were clenched tightly beneath the table, a silent effort to maintain her composure. She responded in a hushed tone, "Ms. Montgomery, if you have something to say, please be forthright."
"I hope you'll divorce Alex immediately. You understand, I..."
Victoria interrupted her, her face betraying no hint of understanding. Isabella's countenance fell instantly.
"I'm not privy to your affairs, so don't assume I am. I know absolutely nothing."
Victoria held her gaze, momentarily taken aback by the abrupt shift in Isabella's demeanor. Isabella, on the other hand, was incensed by the interruption. Yet, she managed to maintain her composure, understanding that now was not the time for a confrontation.
"If you're unaware, I'll enlighten you. I'm carrying Alex's child. You must sense the tension between us, or he wouldn't have been alone with you at the hotel. You’re an intelligent and respectable woman, and you and Adrian are well-matched. It would be in your best interest to divorce Alex sooner rather than later. I assure you a generous settlement as a token of goodwill when you remarry."
Victoria looked at her, puzzled. 'When you remarry?' She didn't know who Isabella expected her to marry—Adrian?
Victoria lowered her gaze and responded softly, "I'm not opposed to the idea of divorce, but that's a conversation you should have with Mr. Harrington."
"Victoria, Alex wouldn't dare divorce you; you know that," Isabella pleaded, her hand gripping Victoria's. "His grandparents, the Harringtons, they feel a sense of guilt towards you. They've forbidden him from leaving you—threatening him with unimaginable consequences. That's why I'm begging you; we can wait, but what about the child? An innocent child shouldn't be born without a proper family, or bear the stigma of illegitimacy from birth. Victoria, I implore you—whatever you need in the future, just ask, and I, Isabella, will move heaven and earth for you."
Victoria remained silent, discomfort creeping in from Isabella's grip. She quickly withdrew her hand, "I'm sorry, I can't help you."
She rose from her seat, her intentions clear, ready to depart.
Isabella hurried after her, "Victoria, I know you resent me. You think I stole Alex from you. But there was never love between you two. Holding him to a moral ransom serves no purpose—it will only make him despise you more. He's never responded well to ultimatums. There's no future there."
Victoria's heart was in turmoil, anger surging as she locked eyes with Isabella. "Miss Montgomery, why waste your time on me? You'd be better off persuading Mr. Harrington to grant me a divorce."
With those words, Victoria turned and walked away.
Alexander emerged from another elevator just as she entered one to leave. Isabella's words echoed in Victoria's mind... 'Holding him to a moral ransom...It will only make him despise you...'
Had she done that?
Exiting the elevator, Victoria was determined to leave when the receptionist approached her. "Miss Kensington, please wait."
Victoria's tear-filled eyes met theirs.
The receptionist averted their gaze from her tear-streaked face and whispered softly, "Mr. Harrington will be here shortly."
Hearing the name 'Mr. Harrington' again, Victoria couldn't hold back any longer and made for the exit.
But the employee persisted, "Miss Kensington, Mr. Harrington is at the hotel looking for you."
