Chapter 776 He Wants to Bet Her a Plane Ticket
"Nothing to explain," Alexander said, not really caring, and then turned to Victoria.
Victoria was staring at him too. Honestly, she wanted to ask the same thing Jerome did.
"So, Mrs. Victoria Harrington, are you okay with this?" Jerome asked her carefully. He was sure Victoria wasn't happy, feeling like she was being controlled and had no freedom.
Victoria listened to Jerome but kept her eyes on Alexander. "My problems don't matter anyway."
Alexander smiled, "We don't care about those silly rumors. We just live our lives as a family of three, and that's it." He pinched her fingertip, and she looked down. The pain was sharp.
"Alexander might not be the most stable guy, but you can see they're a loving couple and won't ever get divorced," Maximus said calmly.
Arabella quickly chimed in, "So, everything's settled? I'll give that boy a call right away and tell him to ask Ms. Bryant out."
Jerome nodded. "Okay."
"Since there's nothing else, Tori isn't feeling well and shouldn't entertain guests for too long. We won't keep Mr. Bryant any longer," Alexander said, still holding Victoria's hand and playing with it lightly, a smile in his eyes. He was basically telling him to leave.
"I'll see Mr. Bryant out," Maximus stood up first.
Jerome had no choice but to stand up too and pretended to be pleased as he followed Maximus out.
As soon as they left, Victoria tried to pull her hand away, but Alexander held it tight. Three of her fingers were red from being pinched, and the pain brought tears to her eyes.
Alexander looked at her. "It was just starting to warm up."
What? Did he really think he was warming her hand? Even though he was fiddling with her cold fingertips, it didn't feel like warming, more like...
Arabella noticed their bickering and quietly left. By the time Victoria realized, Arabella was already heading to the kitchen.
Soon, a servant brought out chicken soup, and the rich aroma filled the air.
"Mrs. Victoria Harrington, if it's bland, you can add more salt," Erica said, placing the chicken soup and a salt shaker on the table.
"Thank you," Victoria replied.
She found the salt shaker charming and couldn't help but pick it up to examine it closely.
"This is Mr. Torres's work," Alexander said, noticing her curiosity.
Victoria looked at him curiously, then stared at the shaker. "David Torres?"
"Yes," Alexander confirmed.
"No wonder, the patterns are so lifelike." She gently touched the salt shaker, feeling its smooth texture and admiring the intricate details that seemed almost alive.
Alexander was surprised to see her interested in these things and couldn't help but ask, "You've been in the Harrington family for so long, and you never noticed this salt shaker?"
Victoria suddenly fell silent, slowly put down the salt shaker, and started to drink the chicken soup.
Even though she had lived in Harrington Mansion for two years, she was the kind of person who didn't like to pry into others' affairs, let alone the items in the corners of their home.
Most of the time, she focused on the rare treasures and the items in the study, which the elders enthusiastically showed her. They even said she could appreciate those treasures whenever she wanted.
However, when she was alone, she rarely looked around.
"There are a lot of cool things here. How about we go on a little treasure hunt later?" Alexander suggested softly, his eyes fixed on her.
Victoria sipped her chicken soup in silence, feeling warmer with each sip. By the time she finished, her face was flushed, and her nose was slightly sweaty.
Alexander watched her quietly, the spot on his Adam's apple where she had bitten him earlier still aching. Her lips looked so soft and inviting.
Victoria put the empty bowl back on the table and turned to Alexander. "Mr. Harrington, what did you just say?"
Alexander's gaze sharpened, but after a few seconds, he smiled and repeated, "I said there are many treasures in Metro House, and I can show you."
"Mr. Harrington, please spare me. I was kicked out of here once, and I know my place."
"What?" Alexander frowned. Why did it feel like there was a hidden meaning in her words? Like she was subtly scolding him?
Victoria noticed the sudden silence and muttered, "Where are Mom and Dad?"
"Dad went out, and Mom is at home," Alexander replied indifferently, clearly annoyed by her not willing to look at him and mentioning the unpleasant past.
He vividly remembered that morning, the day he had forced her to leave Harrington Mansion. It had been her most unwelcome day here. He had told her she was no longer suitable to stay. The memory of her tear-streaked face still haunted him.
Victoria slowly stood up, supporting her stiff waist with both hands and said softly, "I'll go ask Grandma if she still wants to go shopping."
Alexander sat there sulking, not moving. She always knew how to get under his skin.
Arabella, who was arranging dinner in the kitchen, came out and saw Alexander lying on the sofa. She couldn't help but question, "You don't even know how to coax a girl. Are you really my son?"
"How about a paternity test?" Alexander shot back.
"You..." Arabella was so angry that she picked up a magazine and threw it at him.
Alexander caught the magazine and threw it aside, frustration bubbling inside him. How could he dare approach Victoria now? If he tried, she might think he was a pervert, a maniac.
Nearly an hour passed, and Victoria still hadn't returned. Alexander got up irritably and left the living room.
He walked to Brett and Eloise's room and saw Victoria sitting by the window in the sunlight, playing chess with Brett. Her hair, glowing warmly in the sunlight, seemed longer, casting a gentle halo around her. The sight softened Alexander's heart, filling him with longing and regret.
Leaning against the door with his arms crossed, Alexander watched silently as Eloise occasionally gave Brett random advice, causing him to frown several times.
"Move here, see, you never listen to me."
"Who dares to listen to you?" Brett complained.
Victoria couldn't hold back her laughter.
Seeing her laugh, Eloise, feeling cheerful, continued to tease Brett, "You dared back then. Didn't I tell you to marry me, and you did? And now we have such a big family."
"But today, I won't," Brett replied stubbornly.
"Whatever. Then I'll help Victoria. If you lose, you have to take us out to dinner," Eloise declared confidently.
Just as she finished speaking, a familiar voice came from the door, "Then I'll help Grandpa. If Grandma and Tori lose, what will you do?"
Eloise glanced at Alexander, confident she would win. "What do you want?
"How about a plane ticket?" Alexander suggested with a smirk.
