Chapter 689 Alexander, Are You Still a Man?
"Sure thing."
Alexander flashed a smile, looking all chill and laid-back.
But Adrian could tell he was pissed, like he was hiding a knife behind that grin.
Adrian whipped out his phone to find the pics.
Once, when she was out cold, he snuck a pic of her. Before he came back, he sent it to her on the sly.
Adrian leaned in and showed him the photo.
Two hands intertwined, definitely her hands, and yep, those couple rings.
Alexander's eyes stayed down. He kept that faint smile and said softly, "Anything else?"
"Yeah, we took tons of pics."
Adrian's phone was packed with photos of him and Victoria.
Back then, he had her in a wheelchair and pushed her around.
"Oh, this one was from Christmas. Our first Christmas together, and it was pretty sweet. We promised to spend every Christmas together from then on."
Adrian said, showing Alexander the photos.
Victoria was in a white cape in the yard. Even in a wheelchair, she looked super happy.
Alexander thought of the old photos on his phone.
They never even promised to spend their lives together.
She didn't want that.
She didn't let him promise.
Alexander quickly looked away and stood up, "I got a meeting now, so I gotta go."
Adrian caught the brief coldness on his face, knowing he had hit a nerve and felt a bit smug. He put away his phone and stood up, "Alright, I'm out. By the way, if you wanna see Victoria's photos again, tough luck. She's your ex-wife now, but my current partner."
Adrian left.
Alexander stood by his desk, not moving an inch.
Did Adrian think he had him all figured out? Knew how to push his buttons?
Ridiculous.
He didn't care.
Not one bit.
He just glanced at the divorce papers on the desk, his eyes turning cold and dark.
Would Victoria really be with Adrian?
She said she liked Adrian.
She also said she'd rather be with someone else.
But did she know that if the doc hadn't said she had no will to live, that her internal injuries weren't healing 'cause of her bad mood, he would've never let Adrian take her away?
He could've kept her by his side forever.
Yeah, even if it meant locking her up.
Alexander breathed slowly, but his chest was on fire.
The look in Victoria's eyes before she collapsed from her injury kept replaying in his mind.
Was she thanking him?
Thanking him for the divorce?
If she was thankful, she should thank him in person.
Otherwise, what kind of gratitude was that?
She was always so fake with him.
Talking about love at first sight, talking about love, it was all BS.
Alexander's eyes turned bloodshot, and then he laughed, so mockingly.
When Janaye brought the guest in, she noticed something was off with Alexander, so she gently closed the door again, "Please wait a moment."
"Okay."
The guest was led to the waiting area.
Janaye couldn't help but think, Victoria must've signed.
Victoria would definitely sign.
Why was Adrian such a pain?
Why did he have to butt in between Alexander and Victoria?
Adrian, on the other hand, thought this was the only way to make them break off faster.
He hoped Alexander would stop bothering Victoria, for good.
So he had to do something to make Alexander realize they were done for good.
After bailing from the Harrington Group building, Adrian made a beeline for the press conference.
And guess what? The entertainment headline of the day was all about the big star Adrian being hitched.
The news had a pic of him raising his hand, but the real star of the show was the ring on his finger.
Before, everyone thought he was rocking the ring for a movie role as a new dad. But after this bombshell, everyone knew he was actually married, and it was all hush-hush.
While young girls everywhere were crying their eyes out, the folks at the Harrington Mansion were freaking out too.
"No way!"
Eloise stared at the report, totally in denial.
Arabella had already tried calling Melissa, but no luck. She stormed back into the living room, "Mom and Dad, I gotta go check this out myself."
"Melissa didn't pick up?"
Eloise asked.
"Nope."
Arabella replied.
"Yeah, you should go. I don't buy Adrian's story either. Go ask Melissa, and then..."
Eloise hesitated, not wanting to say the name.
When Alexander walked in, he heard Eloise say, "Go see Victoria."
"Of course, I'm gonna see her. I have to."
Arabella said.
"Hold up."
Alexander walked in, all calm and collected.
Arabella and Eloise both looked at him, "Even if you guys are really divorced, Victoria is still family."
"I said don't go."
Alexander repeated, dead serious.
"Why not?"
"She wouldn't want you to bug her."
Alexander said firmly.
"So, I can't see her before I kick the bucket?"
Eloise couldn't handle her grandson's cold logic.
"If seeing her just makes her miserable, is that what you want?"
Alexander shot back.
Eloise felt dizzy, Alexander was really leaving her no choice.
"You gotta understand, your mom and grandma are doing this for you, Alexander. Don't you wanna give it one more shot?"
"Today, Adrian dropped off the divorce papers she signed at my office, and I signed them too."
"What?"
Eloise and Arabella were floored.
Even Brett and Maximus were stunned.
"I was the first to sign. I sent it to her. I did want to end it, or maybe we should've moved on a long time ago."
Alexander said in a deep voice.
"So, you're divorced?"
Arabella asked, not believing it.
"Yeah."
He replied, even more firmly.
"Then, Adrian said he was secretly married..."
Arabella couldn't even finish, just thinking about it freaked her out.
"Yeah, to her."
Alexander replied seriously again.
Arabella was speechless, just sitting there in shock.
Eloise felt dizzy too, her old eyes blurry.
Only Maximus and Brett kept their cool, staring at his cold demeanor.
Brett finally spoke, steady as ever, "Alexander, I gotta ask, this cold act of yours, is it for us or for yourself?"
"I'm not faking it."
Alexander smiled and answered seriously.
"Your heart's bleeding, isn't it?"
Brett looked at him sharply and asked again.
"How could this be? Adrian is your cousin!"
Arabella couldn't wrap her head around it and spoke again.
"Why are you still hung up on that?"
Alexander said calmly and stood up.
"You can't handle it, can you? It hurts, doesn't it? Alexander, are you even a man?"
Brett's words hit his grandson right in the feels.
Alexander's heavy expression softened. He slowly turned around, smiling, "Grandpa, stop testing me. I don't care at all."
