Chapter 293 I Won't Know Unless I Try

"Mr. Harrington, you won't have any work for the next two hours, so I would like to borrow you for a moment," Victoria said, her tone grave as she stood in the threshold of his office."Sure." Alexander cast a brief glance at her before powering down his computer and rising from his seat. With a silent nod, Victoria turned on her heel and exited the room, leaving Alexander to follow. He had already arranged for their transportation.
"Stop the car." Alexander abruptly commanded midway through their journey."Mr. Harrington, what's wrong?" The driver queried, his brows furrowed in confusion."We've overshot our destination," Alexander replied, his countenance growing stern. The driver hesitated, then responded with equal gravity, "No, sir. Mrs. Harrington specified that we were to proceed to the family court."Alexander offered no response. Instead, he turned his gaze towards Victoria, a smile playing on his lips.Victoria clenched her fist, her voice barely above a whisper, "You gave me your word.""I agreed to spare you two hours of my time, Victoria. I did not agree to accompany you to the family court," Alexander retorted."But I must go to the family court," Victoria murmured, her gaze fixed stubbornly on the floor."Driver, you may leave us," Alexander instructed.Soon, the car was empty save for Victoria and Alexander. Heaving a sigh, Alexander turned to face her, "Give me one good reason why I should divorce you.""You don't love me," Victoria replied without missing a beat.At this, Alexander chuckled, leisurely capturing her hands in his, "We have all the time in the world to fall in love, Victoria."His words hinted at the fact that Victoria didn't love him either.Victoria attempted to withdraw her hand, but Alexander's grip was unyielding. She could only meet his gaze momentarily before averting her eyes.Could someone truly be so confident in love?Victoria's lips moved, but no words came out. She lowered her gaze, her voice barely audible as she pleaded, "Please, can we go to family court?""And what will you offer in return?" Alexander queried, his tone indifferent.Victoria was taken aback. She recalled their previous agreement - if she slept with him, he would grant her a divorce. But what if she was no longer a virgin? Would he still be as obstinate?"What if I told you I'm no longer a virgin?" Victoria's voice was barely a whisper, her fingers clutching her dress as she struggled to maintain her composure.Alexander's face drained of color. After a moment, he turned his gaze towards the window, "I won't believe it until I verify it myself."Victoria's eyes shot up to meet his at his words. Staring at his icy profile, she managed to choke out, "Fine."

Alexander turned to look at her."Where?" Victoria asked, her gaze still lowered."Where what?" Alexander retorted, confusion etched on his face."Where will we... you know," Victoria stammered, "You said you wanted to confirm. If I'm no longer a virgin, you'll grant me a divorce."Alexander fell silent.Victoria's eyes welled up with unshed tears. But she refused to let them fall. She wrenched her hand from his and began to unbutton her dress."Victoria," Alexander said, his voice barely above a whisper as he caught her wrist."What do you want to confirm?" Victoria asked, her gaze still fixed on her dress.A sudden thought struck her - perhaps he didn't actually need to sleep with her. "Or could I just go to the hospital for an examination?" Victoria suggested, turning to face him.Alexander didn't respond, his brows furrowed in thought.'Yes, that's a better idea,' Victoria thought, relief washing over her. This solution was far more preferable than sleeping with him. Just as she was about to zip up her dress, Alexander suddenly lifted her from her seat.
