Chapter 269 Victoria Gets Knocked Out

Upon his return home, Alexander found himself dialing Victoria's number once more, only to be met with silence.

A hollow laugh escaped his lips, mocking his own predicament. He had just parted ways with Victoria, her rebellious spirit shining through in their separation. Yet, it seemed she had conveniently forgotten his promise that she would inevitably return to him. When that time came, he vowed to make her rue her decision.

With this thought firmly planted in his mind, Alexander decided to depart from Regal Retreat and return to the familiar confines of Harrington Mansion.---

Victoria, on the other hand, was in high spirits, having received confirmation of her successful job interview. She was set to begin her new role the following Monday.

After freshening up, she found herself aimlessly scrolling through Facebook to pass the time. Her attention was caught by Isabella's post, a collection of nostalgic photos featuring their childhood companions. Among the six images, three featured Alexander, contradicting his claims of solitude.

Victoria found herself inexplicably drawn to the images of Alexander. His allure was undeniable, a trait seemingly shared by his entire family. Even in their youth, they radiated an exceptional charm. Yet, she struggled to understand her lingering fascination with him.

Setting her phone aside, Victoria whispered a gentle reminder to herself, "Wake up, Victoria. Stop dwelling on him. Even if the world were to end, the two of you could never be together."

She had ignored Alexander's calls and messages, choosing instead to focus on resting and mentally preparing for her new job.

However, her peace was shattered by the sudden sound of a gusty wind and a faint noise from outside. Startled, Victoria sat up, her heart pounding. She dismissed the thought of Ankenra, convincing herself that she was safe here, free from enemies or rivals. Could it be a burglar?

Venturing towards the stairwell, she was met with the chilling sight of her front door ajar. Fear gripped her as she was abruptly seized from behind, a large, rough hand clamping over her mouth as a gruff voice threatened, "Be quiet, or I'll kill you."

The cold steel of a dagger pressed against her throat.

Paralyzed with fear, Victoria was swiftly dragged into her bedroom and tossed onto the bed. A scream tore from her throat as pain radiated through her body.

The intruder, his face obscured by a mask and hat, advanced towards her, unbuckling his belt. Panic welled up within Victoria, but she forced herself to remain calm.

"Who are you?" Victoria asked.

The man remained silent, his cold gaze fixed on her as he removed his belt.

Ignoring the pain, Victoria scooted back, repeating her question, "What do you want?"

Still, the man said nothing. He lunged forward, gripping her legs and flipping her over. He bound her wrists behind her back with his belt, the leather biting into her skin. Victoria wanted to scream, but the words wouldn't come.

As he began to tear at her clothes, Victoria seized the opportunity to kick him hard, sending him sprawling.

"Damn it!" he cursed.

Fear surged through Victoria as she recognized his accent as Ankenra. Foreign accents were a rarity in this country. But there was no time to dwell on this revelation; she had to hide.

However, the man recovered quickly, seizing her once more. This time, his hand closed around her throat.

Victoria's scream was cut short as his palm struck her face, leaving a stinging imprint. Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth, but he struck her again.

In her pain and fear, Victoria's thoughts turned to Alexander. If she survived this ordeal, she swore never to curse him again, to refrain from calling him cruel names. This was true cruelty.

As the man continued his assault, Victoria's consciousness began to fade, her vision blurring. The last image that floated in her mind was Alexander's face as she had first seen him, standing by his father's side, his innocent eyes captivating her.

Alexander! Victoria screamed his name in her heart, the bitter realization dawning on her that they might never see each other again.
