Chapter 666 Compete in Ruthlessness with Shameless People
Alexander hung back, eavesdropping quietly before slipping away.
Victoria was genuinely stoked, though it was all about their kid.
She didn't dare laugh out loud, show her true feelings, or even say she loved him again. She...
Alexander's phone buzzed. He picked it up, glancing inside. Sure enough, Victoria and Olivia turned to look at him. He shot Victoria a calm smile before stepping out to take the call.
Something was up at his company, and Edward bounced too, leaving just her and Olivia at home. With nothing better to do, they decided to hit the shops.
Since their last baby supply run, they realized they could snag a lot more stuff.
Out of nowhere, they bumped into Naomi at the maternity store.
Naomi was holding a tiny piece of clothing, and from the color, it was for a baby boy.
Olivia caught on quick and raised an eyebrow knowingly, while Victoria stayed cool as a cucumber. The calmer she was, the more Naomi fumed. "I'm here to buy something for a friend's grandson. Don't you two start making wild guesses."
"We didn't say anything," Victoria replied, totally chill.
"You didn't say anything, but I know exactly what you mean by that look in your eyes."
"Can you read minds now?" Victoria asked, still cool.
"You... Victoria, don't push it. Just 'cause you're pregnant doesn't make you special. Any woman can get pregnant, so don't get too full of yourself," Naomi snapped.
"I get it. When you hit grandma age, you can still pop out a kid. So, it's even easier for someone as young as me," Victoria stayed unbothered.
"You..."
"Mrs. Montgomery, or should I call you Ms. Collins now? I heard you divorced Mr. Montgomery and got booted from the mansion. Even if you don't need to be low-key, you should do some good for the kid in your belly," Olivia cut in, seeing Naomi was gunning for Victoria.
"Are you cursing me?" Naomi shot back, furious.
"Why would I curse you? If you do bad stuff, won't it lead your kid to follow in your footsteps?" Olivia reminded her.
For some reason, Naomi felt a sudden pang in her heart.
Dorian dumped her for this kid, and she wanted to use this kid to show the world that Dorian was betrayed. Especially when she suggested trying for another kid, Dorian pretended to care, saying it wasn't necessary and that their family of three was happy enough. He even said their daughter could take over the family business. But twenty years later, she realized it was because he already had a son with her best friend.
He had long planned for Arthur to be the heir, while she foolishly believed her daughter Isabella was the only choice for Dorian as the family business successor.
When Naomi snapped back to reality and looked at the two young women in front of her, her face turned icy again. "It's not up to you two to school me. And Victoria, I won't let your husband off the hook for helping Arthur fight for our family business with Isabella."
Seeing Naomi about to leave, Olivia stepped up to block her and warned, "Hey, stop talking trash without proof. And don't blame us women for what men do."
"The best way to beat an enemy is to hit their weak spot. You Baker family folks are all so smart; don't you get that?" Naomi said and then stormed off.
She was just trying to rattle Victoria.
Naomi got stopped at the door, and Frank peeked inside.
Victoria tugged on Olivia. "Let's bounce. This store's got bad vibes."
"Sure thing."
Naomi had to step aside, and Victoria led Olivia past her.
But once outside, a cold wind slapped Victoria in the face, making her pause. She turned to look at Naomi, who was still blocked by Frank, then walked over and said calmly, "Just wait and see."
Naomi and Isabella were shameless, so Victoria had to play even tougher.
Olivia leaned in close to Naomi's ear, whispering, "But you will pay for all your dirty deeds."
Naomi shivered at her words.
With Christmas around the corner, Alexander had Janaye book the tickets and hotel ahead of time.
On Friday night, Victoria and Alexander rolled up to the Harrington Mansion, and as soon as they walked in, Mason spotted them. "Mr. and Mrs. Harrington are back."
"Hey, Mr. Shaba," Victoria greeted.
"Good evening, Mrs. Harrington," Mason said.
Before they reached the living room, they heard Eloise's voice, which then quieted down.
"My chest has been feeling heavy these past two days. Could it be something bad?" Eloise muttered, sounding a bit down.
"Grandma, were you spooked by the movie you watched last night?" Adrian was there too, sitting next to Eloise.
Hearing Adrian's voice and seeing him, both of them felt a bit uneasy.
"Victoria, there you are." Eloise beamed upon seeing Victoria, forgetting all her worries.
"Hey, everyone, we're back."
Victoria greeted everyone.
Adrian scooted over as she approached, and Eloise took Victoria's hand and had her sit down. Then she asked Eloise, "Grandma, what movie did you watch last night?"
"007, James Bond is so handsome." Eloise happily recalled the movie she watched with Adrian last night.
Logically, the movie should be enjoyable, and Eloise shouldn't have been scared to the point of feeling chest tightness.
But Victoria thought that maybe there were some unexpected scenes that were a bit frightening.
Adrian sat on the side, his eyes involuntarily glancing at Victoria, thinking she seemed to have gained some weight, but she looked even more gentle.
Alexander said indifferently, "Have you been very idle lately?"
Adrian snapped back to reality, looked at Alexander, and then lowered his head. "I haven't taken on any new roles."
"Aren't you supposed to be shooting a new show?" Alexander asked again.
"I turned it down. I plan to take a year off," Adrian replied.
Alexander said nothing more. Adrian had always been a free spirit, whether in singing or acting, doing things based on his mood. But this time...
"I'm sure it's not because of seeing James that I feel this way. It feels more like..." Eloise's muttering brought Alexander and Adrian back to reality.
Everyone suddenly fell silent, quietly watching Eloise.
Eloise continued, "I think I'll go up to the church on the mountain and stay for a few days to sincerely pray for our family."
"Mom, how about I go with you to relax?" Arabella asked.
"Victoria is pregnant; you should stay home. I must go and pray for God's protection."
Eloise didn't want any accidents to happen to the family.
