Chapter 40 Will We Get Divorced After Changing?

His fever was so high it was heartbreaking.
She knew about the technique of pressing the forehead to alleviate a fever. It was a practice rooted in her childhood memories. Sometimes, she could still feel her mother's gentle touch pressing against her own fevered forehead, whispering soothing words that it could help. Now, she was using the same technique on Alexander, her fingers pressing against his forehead, leaving an imprint that was far from perfect. Normally, if someone was skilled, the shape would resemble a star, but the shape she left...
Alexander lifted his eyes, saw her hesitation, and asked, "What's wrong?""Nothing, " she replied, her gaze falling awkwardly, her heart pounding like a drum.
Alexander looked at her, quickly reaching out again. Victoria instinctively dodged, but Alexander, holding her hand over his heart, easily grasped her neck.
"Don't move," he ordered hoarsely but clearly. His thumb pressed on the spot where he had bitten her, where blood was still oozing. He actually... wanted to suck it again, which might speed up the healing. But... she was like a startled deer, making him worried about frightening her.
Victoria looked at him even more tensely. If he didn't remove his hand soon, she felt like she would suffocate.
Alexander suddenly laughed again, "Breathe."
Victoria, seeing him still making fun of her, unhappily removed his hand immediately, and turned her eyes elsewhere, finally taking a breath.
The car arrived at the office building and the driver parked in the underground parking lot. Alexander got out of the car first and then leaned in, "Come out."
Victoria didn't move; she was still leaning against one of the doors, too far from him. He was blocking the way; how was she supposed to get out?
"Hurry up," Alexander urged.
Just as Victoria was unsure of what to do, the driver in front said, "Mrs. Harrington, I have to go to the hospital to pick up Old Lady Harrington next." Only then did Victoria dare not delay any longer. But... even though she clearly didn't want his help, when she got out, he tightly held her hand. His hand was also exceptionally hot, so hot that she immediately wanted to pull back. But this time he didn't let go. Victoria looked up at him with a puzzled look. Alexander just said, "Let's go upstairs."
Victoria didn't move and lowered her head in embarrassment. Alexander looked at her, "What's wrong now?"
"How can I go upstairs dressed like this?" She should go home and change her clothes, right?
"I thought you were so preoccupied with me that you didn't notice you were dressed in pajamas and slippers," he said, looking deeply into her eyes, teasing her seriously.
She looked up in surprise.
But then he smiled at her again, a smile that made her heart flutter.
What was going on with him? Why was he suddenly smiling at her like that?
Victoria quickly lowered her head, "I'm not preoccupied with you, I just..."
"Just what?"
"Just want to get the paperwork done quickly."
This time it was Alexander's turn to be silent. Was she preoccupied with the divorce?
"But we just promised Grandma we wouldn't divorce," Alexander reminded her gently.
"But Miss Montgomery is pregnant; it's better for us to divorce sooner," she said, her mood low but her intentions clear. She really didn't have the ability to face Isabella day after day.
Alexander’s phone rang again. He picked it up, glanced at it, and answered, "Send it to my office."
After Alexander finished speaking, he hung up and looked at her, "Your clothes have arrived; go change first, okay?"
"After I change, we'll divorce?" Victoria wasn't trying to push him. She just wanted a result as soon as possible.
