Chapter 236 He Asked Her to Come Closer

A wave of embarrassment washed over Victoria, sudden and unexpected. She found herself awakening in the secure embrace of Alexander's arms, an intimate position that sent her heart into a frenzy. In a quiet panic, she slipped away from his grasp, leaving him behind in the tranquility of slumber.

"Grandma, Mom, I... I need to..." Victoria's voice trailed off, her thoughts tangled in a web of uncertainty. She yearned to express her feelings, but the words were elusive, slipping through her fingers like grains of sand.

"Ah, my head," she groaned, a dull ache throbbing in her temples.

"Mom, are you feeling dizzy again?" Arabella's voice was laced with concern, her eyes wide with worry.

Victoria glanced at Arabella, who was rushing to assist Madam, and then at Madam herself. Confusion clouded her mind, her thoughts a whirlwind of uncertainty. Madam, usually so robust, appeared frail and weak, her strength seemingly drained.

"Quickly, call Alexander. He needs to pick up Vicky," Madam instructed, her voice weak. "I've just finished eating and I'm feeling rather dizzy. I need to rest for a while."

Victoria's heart clenched at the sight of Madam's frailty. The words of divorce she had been planning to utter stuck in her throat. When she spotted Alexander at the hospital entrance, a wave of suffocation washed over her. But then...

A figure darted past Victoria, throwing herself into Alexander's arms with a dramatic flair. "Alexander, you actually came," the woman exclaimed, her voice filled with relief.

Alexander glanced down at the woman clinging to him. "Isabella, that's enough," he said, his voice firm yet gentle.

"But I lost our child," Isabella replied, her voice choked with tears.

"There will be more children," Alexander assured her, his gaze softening. He turned to look for Victoria, only to find that she had already gotten into a taxi.

Victoria had overheard Alexander's words, but she forced herself to remain indifferent. The matter of their divorce would have to wait for another opportunity.

Upon returning home, Victoria immediately contacted a cleaning service. The sight of her disheveled home prompted them to exclaim, "Oh, miss, have you offended someone? We can't clean a place like this."

"I'll pay double," Victoria offered, her voice steady. She had spent enough time in the world of commerce to understand the persuasive power of money.

"But..."

"Quadruple," Victoria interjected. "The house isn't large. Dispose of what needs to be discarded and clean what needs to be cleaned. I trust you'll be able to complete the task efficiently."

The cleaning crew agreed, swayed by the generous offer. They had cleaned all sorts of homes before, and Victoria's was no different. Besides, the house was less than 80 square meters, a manageable task.

"Alright, we'll do it. It's not an easy task for a young girl like you," they conceded.

Victoria promptly paid them and retreated to her room, tucking her father's watch into her bag. The previous night's fright had caused her to forget this precious memento. A longing for her home country, Country M, washed over her. Their family home was still there, preserved by a caretaker, a time capsule of their shared memories.

With this thought in mind, Victoria discovered an upcoming business trip to Country M. She immediately contacted the senior executive, Director Joe. "Director Joe," she began, her voice steady.

"Miss Kensington? Why would a high-level secretary like you call me personally?" Joe's voice was filled with surprise.

"Could you please do me a favor?" Victoria asked, her voice pleading.

"Hmm?"

"I would like to accompany you to Country M."

"This... shouldn't you ask Mr. Harrington?" Joe queried, his voice filled with confusion.

Later that afternoon, as Victoria was preparing to leave work, her phone buzzed with an incoming call. It was Mr. Harrington.
"Hello?"

"Come to my office," Alexander said.

Victoria took a deep breath, attempting to calm her racing heart. She made her way to his office, her steps hesitant. Upon entering, she greeted him softly, "Mr. Harrington."

"Hmm, I heard you want to go on a business trip with Joe?"

"Yes," Victoria replied after a moment's hesitation.

Unsure of his response, she looked at him, her eyes filled with anticipation.

"I've approved it," he replied, meeting her gaze.

Victoria's heart soared with relief. "Thank you, Mr. Harrington."

Alexander recalled the sight of Isabella clinging to him earlier that morning and Victoria's hasty departure. As he lowered his gaze, he instructed her casually, "Come closer."
