Chapter 148 Mrs. Harrington
Jasmine picked up the phone, her voice laced with surprise as she greeted, "Hello, Mrs. Harrington."
She treaded lightly, her every word calculated and cautious. A wave of nostalgia washed over her as she thought of her friend Vicky.
Vicky, unlike the composed Victoria Kensington, would always bounce back to work with a serious demeanor, even after being wronged.
"Jasmine?" Victoria Kensington's voice echoed from the other end of the line, a hint of confusion tainting her words. "Is that you, Vicky?" The unexpected question made Jasmine's eyes widen in shock. Could it really be her Vicky?
Victoria Kensington fell silent, a sense of unease creeping over her. Frightened, Jasmine quickly covered her mouth and retreated to a corner, her voice barely a whisper, "Vicky, is it really you? Are you—our boss's wife?"
"I'm not," Victoria Kensington responded curtly before hanging up. Her heart pounded in her chest, the rhythm akin to a thunderous storm.
What was happening? Why had Jasmine suddenly mentioned 'Mrs.'?
---
Alexander Harrington, observing Jasmine's shocked expression, inquired, "What did Mrs. Harrington say?"
"She said she's not," Jasmine replied, her voice shaky from the shock.
"What does that mean?" The CEO asked, his brow furrowed in confusion.
"Oh, she's been a bit cross with me these past few days. A little coaxing should do the trick," Alexander Harrington explained nonchalantly. Jasmine couldn't help but glance at her boss again.
A lovers' quarrel? No wonder Vicky hadn't been coming to work lately—it was all due to a spat with the boss. But, could they really be married? The thought sent chills down Jasmine's spine.
After dinner, she quickly sent a WhatsApp message to Victoria Kensington, "Vicky, are you the boss's wife? He has you saved as 'Mrs.' on his phone."
Victoria Kensington felt her head spin as she read the message. He’d marked her as his wife? She had seen her name as ‘Victoria Kensington’ on his phone just recently. What was he trying to do?
Her phone buzzed again, interrupting her thoughts. Seeing it was from Isabella Montgomery, her heart clenched, but she didn’t answer. Isabella Montgomery hung up shortly after and sent a lengthy text message.
“Victoria Kensington, I hope you erase this message the moment you read it. I’ve done something wrong. I cheated on Alex while we were dating, and I’ve disappointed him. Now he truly wants to break things up with me, but our child needs a father. You’re the only one who can persuade him to stay. This family needs him, and I don’t want my baby to be born abelled as a bastard. I can’t bear the thought of my child living under that shadow forever, ’nable to shake off the stigma, living in darkness. Please, divorce him.”
Isabella Montgomery sighed, hoping that if Victoria Kensington had any sympathy, she would understand the need to initiate a divorce from Alexander Harrington. If she lacked compassion, then she wasn’t worthy of standing by Alexander Harrington’s side.
Victoria Kensington fell into a deep silence after reading Isabella’s text. She quickly dialed Alexander Harrington’s number, but he wouldn’t answer. For two straight days, he either ignored her calls or purposely called her Vicky during meetings, speaking in a way she couldn’t comprehend.
Rumors of his marriage spread like wildfire through the office building, and whispers pointed in her direction. Victoria Kensington panicked; she had no idea how he was orchestrating this drama. She had no choice but to return to the office building.
Upon seeing her, Jasmine stood up timidly, her voice soft, “Vicky, you’re back.”
Seeing the panic and unease in Jasmine's eyes, Victoria could only walk over and reassure her with a smile, "Yeah, I'm back. No need to be scared, it's nothing."
"So, you are actually Mr. Harrington's lawful wife?" Jasmine had always thought she was the other woman and now felt a mix of regret and sympathy for her.
