Chapter 44 Lychee

Victoria immediately pulled her hand away, detecting the ambiguity in his action.
"No, don't let her bring it in," she murmured softly, rubbing her palm vigorously on her knee.
His warmth lingered in her hand. Her heart was pounding so hard that it felt as if it would burst out of her chest. When she covered his mouth earlier, she had forgotten that she was his unloved wife; she was only concerned about not being discovered.
Alexander furrowed his brows, insisting, "Let her bring it in." What was she rubbing? And she rubbed it several times. Was his mouth dirty? He had kissed her twice already and perhaps there would be a third time later. Alexander deliberately ignored her.
Victoria stared blankly at him after he ordered for the person to come in. If the person outside came in, wouldn't that mean... she completely forgot how suggestive her current position was; she was only thinking about one thing: she was about to become famous. He must have done it on purpose. He despised her, so he wanted to make her look bad in front of her colleagues. His eyes seemed to say, ‘the more you resist, the more I want people to see you.’ And then, the door opened.
The trembling assistant walked in with the food. "Mr. Harrington, Miss Kensington, I've brought breakfast for you," she said, placing it on the table.
Victoria was speechless. She was being called Miss Kensington. She must have been discovered when he carried her out of the elevator earlier. And now...
Victoria wanted to explain that it was a misunderstanding, but she was in her pajamas and barefoot. She felt like no matter what she said, she could not clear up the misunderstanding. It didn't matter anymore. She had been seen clearly. Perhaps they had been seen kissing in the elevator too. Her heart sank uncontrollably.
Suddenly, everything in front of her turned dark. Alexander’s assistant couldn't help but glance up, seeing Victoria kneeling next to Alexander. She acted as if she had discovered some terrible secret, quickly lowering her head and rushing out after placing the food on the table.
Victoria accidentally looked down and realized her embarrassing position next to him. Her face flushed, but she calmly moved away from him and back into the bed. It was too late to be anxious now; she had already been seen. She sat in the bed, hugging herself, feeling increasingly upset. She couldn't help but look at the man next to her. It was all his fault. What was he doing? Why was he always bothering her instead of finding that woman to take care of him? Right, he was afraid of infecting Isabella. He didn't want Isabella to take care of him, so he bothered her.
Alexander's phone rang again. He, suffering from a splitting headache, picked it up and couldn't help but sigh, "Hello?" "Isabella, don't be like this," he responded to whatever was said on the other end.
Victoria felt that his voice was full of restraint. He always seemed to be very restrained with Isabella, a patience he would never have with her. He asked her not to be childish. He asked her to be good. Would his fever definitely infect her, his other half? Victoria didn't think it was necessarily so. He just cared too much about her; he was afraid that she would suffer the slightest grievance.
"I'll come to see you later, hmm, what do you want to eat? Okay, I'll ask someone to buy it, hmm, bye." Alexander hung up the phone with an indulgent smile on his face. He then looked at Victoria, "Isabella said she wants to eat lychees. Remember to buy some before you get off work."
