Chapter 748 There Should Be Limits to Arguments

"Say that again!" Alexander asked, trying to keep his cool but clearly pissed off.

Victoria didn't hesitate. "I said, if there's really someone standing outside this house, it's you, my ex-husband."

Alexander felt like he was about to blow up, but he took a second to think. He just stared at her for a few moments, then looked down, seething but holding it in.

He kept telling himself not to argue with her.

But he couldn't help it. He looked at her again and said, "I'm managing my subordinates."

"Aren't they the attendants you assigned to me?" she shot back.

"Yeah," Alexander admitted, already frowning.

"Then why are you managing my people?" Victoria pressed.

Alexander was so frustrated he felt sick. He bit his tongue and swallowed his anger.

Dinner was awkward with the four of them sitting together.

Eve had made dinner for four, and Victoria grudgingly let Alexander stay. But as soon as he finished eating, she couldn't hold back anymore. "After dinner, I'll have Frank take you back," she said quietly.

Alexander gave her a resentful look.

He kept telling himself to stay calm. He didn't know why, but something inside him recognized that anger, now, would only widen the chasm between them. After all, he'd already said some harsh things before dinner.

Thinking about the scar on her belly, Alexander finally said, "Got it."

Eve found it odd that Alexander, who had been so angry before dinner, suddenly backed down.

He seemed really scared of Victoria.

But Frank knew that arguments had limits, and Alexander was trying to stay within those limits.

If he said one more harsh word, they might have a serious fight.

Alexander didn't want that, so after Victoria's repeated patience and silence, he had to be careful with his words and actions.

After Alexander left, Victoria and Eve stood on the balcony. Eve handed her a cup of hot milk and asked, "Mrs. Harrington, are you standing here because you don't want Mr. Harrington to leave?"

"You misunderstood," Victoria said, glancing at Eve and then looking at the car driving away.

"Then what is it?" Eve asked, curious.

"I'm afraid he'll come back. He always comes back," Victoria explained.

Eve looked at Victoria in disbelief, then glanced outside.

Eve thought to herself, 'Alexander loves coming here so much, he must really care about Victoria. Then why did he say such heartless things?'

He said he only wanted Strawberry, but clearly, he wanted to use Strawberry to keep Victoria.

Eve suddenly remembered what Victoria said before dinner when she was standing up for Frank, and for some reason, she found Victoria quite cool.

When she looked at Victoria again, she realized that Victoria might seem fragile on the outside, but she was really strong inside.

Although Victoria always liked to think things over, it might be because of her experiences. She didn't dare to make mistakes easily because she knew the cost was too high, but she wasn't without courage.

If an ordinary person suffered such severe injuries and endured such pain during childbirth, they would probably cry to death.

But she remembered that when Victoria was giving birth, although she was in tears from the pain, she didn't even groan much.

The doctor told Victoria not to strain herself, and she obediently tried her best to hold back.

She was only twenty-four, not some superwoman, but she made it through. Most girls her age might be lost after college, worrying about the future and feeling uneasy. But Victoria had already faced life and death, become a mom, and now...

Eve had once asked Victoria if being a secretary at the Harrington Group was stressful. What did Victoria say?

The scariest thing was taking things too seriously. As long as people focused and loved what they did, it got easier.

Later, when Victoria's back pain flared up, Eve took Strawberry to her room.

Victoria had a patch on her back, turned on the electric blanket, and silently lay on her side in bed, gradually falling asleep.

In the exclusive hotel suite, Alexander arrived and saw Tessa inside, immediately frowning in displeasure.

Benjamin knew Alexander didn't like seeing others paired up, so he quickly explained, "Tessa is here with her friend, they're leaving soon."

"I thought I could see Victoria, but I was disappointed," Tessa said, then left Benjamin's side and got up to leave.

Alexander sat in the center, poured himself a drink, then looked at Benjamin and said in a low voice, "When are you getting married?"

"We're working on it," Benjamin smiled.

He and Tessa had already decided privately, but their elders were still arguing.

The grudges of the previous generation would be resolved in their generation, but it was a tough process.

Alexander didn't say much else, took a sip of his drink, and feeling bored, looked towards the door as it was pushed open from the outside.

Sebastian came in, smiling awkwardly and nervously, "I ran into Ms. Bryant downstairs."

Daisy, hearing 'Ms. Bryant,' immediately peeked in playfully from outside, "What a coincidence."

Alexander immediately lowered his gaze, his expression cold.

But Daisy walked in, saw the empty seat next to him, and automatically sat down beside him. Seeing his drink was low, she quickly refilled it.

At home, her father often told her to be observant, to serve the elders during meals, refilling drinks and such.

"Here," Daisy handed the drink to him with both hands.

Alexander looked at her calmly, took it, but then put it back down.

Seeing him put the drink back, Daisy remembered her father's words that if someone took her drink but didn't drink it, it meant they were dissatisfied with her, and she felt a bit aggrieved.

"Ms. Bryant, are you here to meet friends too?" Benjamin asked, seeing her awkwardness.

"Yes," Daisy turned to look at Benjamin, murmuring after a while.

She couldn't say she was here like an idiot, deliberately keeping an eye on them, could she?

She knew where they often gathered and wanted to try her luck.

"I heard you recently ordered a lot of home goods that are good for the back. Is your wife's back still not better?" That's how Sebastian referred to Victoria now.

Alexander responded, subconsciously picking up his drink.

Hearing Sebastian's words, Daisy was initially worried, but seeing him pick up the drink, she hoped he would drink it.

Alexander eventually put the drink down and quickly stood up, saying, "Isn't there a forecast for snow tonight?"

"It was already snowing when I came," Daisy immediately answered his question.

A man who liked snow must be very romantic.

Alexander indeed turned to look at Daisy, smiling, "Thanks for letting me know."

"You're welcome," Daisy blushed.

Benjamin and Sebastian watched silently, feeling that Daisy was overthinking.

"I'm leaving, put it on my tab," Alexander said and left.

"Wait, I'll go with you," Daisy quickly stood up too. Alexander turned, looking at her questioningly.

Daisy, awkward but still charming, said softly, "I didn't drive here."
