Chapter 339 Just Hold On

The dawn of the next day arrived, and promptly at 8 a.m., Victoria found herself summoned to the CEO's office. The man who had not returned home the previous night held his phone out to her, a trace of accusation in his voice. "You didn't answer my call yesterday. Was it because he was taking care of you?" Victoria glanced at his phone before confirming with a simple, "Yes." Alexander was irate and on the verge of berating her. However, seeing her pallid complexion and recalling the elders' words about her fever not having fully subsided, he bit back his anger. "Did you ask me to find Isabella last night because of him too?" "He wouldn't interrogate me when I'm sick," Victoria retorted. "What?" "He only worries about me, takes care of me, instructs me to take good care of myself, and if anything happens, I must inform him immediately," she continued, her voice steady despite the turmoil within her. "Victoria, why do you think I'll enjoy it when you say these things to me?" Alexander couldn't help but interrupt her, his voice laced with frustration. Victoria remained silent, her teary eyes gradually meeting his icy gaze. She hadn't expected Adrian taking her to the hospital for a fever shot to be misconstrued as going for a check-up, but she knew it wasn't a big deal. Maybe he felt humiliated and would divorce her. If he didn't divorce her even after that, she would really be puzzled. What was he holding on to?"Alexander, Ms. Montgomery is here," came a voice from outside the door, breaking the tense silence. It was Janaye, reminding them of the impending visitor. Victoria's heart trembled upon hearing the two words "Ms. Montgomery." Alexander saw her expression change and immediately directed his gaze at the door panel, "Let her in."Victoria lowered her gaze, enduring the discomfort. "She's having health issues, you better not speak to her as freely as you do with me, it's not good for her to be provoked by you," Alexander suddenly cautioned her. In fact, Victoria felt it was more of a threat than a reminder. She lowered her gaze and said softly, "I can avoid her.""You're not allowed to avoid her," Alexander immediately countered. Victoria looked at him in confusion again, why wasn't she allowed to avoid her? Wasn't he afraid she would upset that woman?"Alexander, I'm here," came Isabella's voice as the door opened. Victoria suddenly felt the room grow smaller, standing there quietly with her head bowed. If he didn't want her to provoke that woman, she would just stand quietly."Victoria, you're here too," Isabella greeted, a smile in her voice. "Yes," Victoria replied softly, her gaze still lowered. "Alexander told me last night that you had a fever, are you feeling better now?" Isabella asked, approaching to touch her forehead. Victoria reflexively recoiled. Isabella stood there awkwardly, "What's wrong? Are you still mad at me?" Victoria didn't speak, just glanced at Alexander. Alexander stood by, silent and watching.
Victoria felt a bit aggrieved, but still endured, "No." "As long as everything's fine, even I’m not in good health, I don't want anything bad to happen to you again. Come, let me check if your fever has gone down," Isabella said, playing the part of a caring sister and reaching out to touch her forehead again. Victoria tried hard not to make any uncomfortable movements, just holding on, waiting for it to pass. But the perfume on Isabella was too strong, she couldn't help it, her stomach churned and she had to cover her mouth and run outside. "What's wrong with Victoria?" Isabella asked, looking puzzled as she turned to Alexander. But Alexander's eyes were already looking outside, as if his heart had flown out with her. Isabella approached him and called out, "Alexander." Alexander reluctantly came back to his senses, wanting to follow.

"Don't worry, I'll go check, she must have gone to the restroom, it's not appropriate for you to go," Isabella reassured him.
