Chapter 743 Pretending to Be Drunk, Calling Her Baby
Victoria stood there quietly until the elevator doors slid open, and Alexander stormed out, looking as cold as ever.
She didn't deserve to be his daughter's mother?
He could be with other women, but she was stuck in the trap he set.
Alexander was having lunch with Benjamin when his phone buzzed. He glanced at the message and sighed, tossing his phone on the table.
Benjamin looked concerned. "What's up now?"
"She's meeting with a lawyer," Alexander muttered.
Benjamin frowned. "Is she still trying to get custody of Strawberry?"
"Looks like it," Alexander replied, his eyes narrowing.
"So, what's your plan?" Benjamin pressed.
Alexander's eyes flickered. He looked at Benjamin, then down at his wine glass, gripping it tightly.
What could he do?
Last night, he accidentally saw the scar on her belly, and it completely threw him off.
Benjamin said, "She still doesn't know you two aren't divorced, right?"
Alexander picked up his wine glass, then put it down again.
Even though he stayed silent, Benjamin knew he was agreeing. "Why don't you just tell her you two aren't divorced?"
"All she wants is a divorce," Alexander said, then downed his wine in one gulp.
He couldn't understand why Victoria was so dead set on blaming him.
In the afternoon, he skipped the office. In the evening, Victoria got off work early. Janaye and Shoure had organized a gathering to celebrate their marriage, and a bunch of colleagues, including her, gathered.
In the VIP room of the Harrington Group hotel, Shoure had pre-ordered the dishes, and the place buzzed with energy as soon as they sat down.
Penelope from PR was there too. When she saw Victoria, she smiled slightly. "I knew you'd come back."
"Erica always says I'm useless. If I weren't your person, I'd have been fired a hundred times," Janaye said to Victoria.
Victoria smiled helplessly, but a voice echoed in her mind.
Alexander had said something like that before.
She hadn't forgotten.
"Since Ms. Kensington came back, our days have been better. After Ms. Kensington left the city last year, the Harrington Group was under a cloud until you recently returned," someone else chimed in.
Everyone chatted comfortably, and Victoria found it hard to believe. She couldn't help but say, "He has a bad temper. It shouldn't matter whether I'm here or not."
"It matters a lot. When you're here, Mr. Harrington is happy. When Mr. Harrington is happy, our days are better," a male colleague across from her said.
Victoria smiled helplessly and didn't explain further.
She thought Alexander's constant cold demeanor must be due to other things, like Isabella still being in prison.
There were two plates of candy on the table. She took one and popped it into her mouth.
Seeing that she liked it, Janaye put a handful into her bag when they were leaving.
Shoure was seeing off guests and glanced inside while on the phone. Seeing the three of them standing there chatting about something funny, he said, "She's still here."
"Ladies, it's time to go," Shoure urged them at the door.
Penelope had been drinking and called for a designated driver.
Shoure, with his arm around Janaye, stood at the hotel entrance. When they saw Victoria about to get into a taxi, Shoure immediately stopped her and said with concern, "Wait, I called a car for you."
Victoria looked at him and said, "Thank you."
Shoure forced a smile and then thought to himself, 'just don't scold me.'
Because soon, a long Rolls-Royce pulled up.
The back door opened, and Shoure said goodbye to Victoria, "Goodbye."
"Goodbye," Victoria replied, waving to them as she got into the car and waved to Janaye.
Shoure had booked a luxury suite at the hotel for a romantic night with Janaye.
It was later, in the tranquility of the car ride home, Victoria felt a shift, an almost tangible tension settling in as she turned to saw Alexander sitting on the other side.
He was wearing a well-tailored suit, sitting close to the edge, rubbing his temples. It seemed he noticed her by chance and said with a blank expression, "What are you doing here?"
Victoria ignored him and said to the driver in front, "Leander, please stop the car up ahead."
"Mrs. Harrington, we can't park here," Leander said with a smile.
Victoria didn't argue and turned to look at Alexander.
He must've been drinking; his eyes were a bit glassy.
"Leander, did he have a social event tonight?" Victoria asked.
"No, just... he drank like this with Ms. Bryant," Leander said, gripping the steering wheel tightly, clearly uncomfortable.
Hearing that Alexander had been drinking with Daisy, Victoria stayed quiet but heard Alexander chuckle softly.
She turned to look at him and heard him say, "You didn't guess, did you? Because she doesn't wear such strong perfume."
At that moment, Victoria was sure he was drunk.
"Leander, just drop me off at Rockland Street," Victoria said with a slight smile.
Alexander said indifferently, "No, drive to Serenade Villa."
"I'm not going to Serenade Villa."
"Strawberry is at Serenade Villa, and don't you want your junk car?"
What junk car? Her car was practically new.
As the night grew darker, the car fell silent for a few seconds. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw something fall. She turned and saw Alexander lying on the seat.
His hair lightly brushed against her trousers.
Victoria felt a stir in her heart but still gently moved aside.
But before she could move away, her thigh was grabbed. Alexander turned, resting his head on her lap, burying his face in her belly.
Victoria instinctively held her breath, looking outside and murmuring, "Alexander, get up."
"No," he mumbled, holding her tighter.
Victoria fell silent, enduring.
She didn't want to get angry with a drunk person; after all, she couldn't beat him. She just sat there quietly.
When the car arrived at Serenade Villa, she saw the letters at the entrance and felt a tightness in her chest but continued to endure.
Leander drove the car to the front and then turned around before saying, "Mrs. Harrington, do you need my help?"
"Don't call me Mrs. Harrington anymore. We've been divorced for a long time."
"But Mr. Harrington didn't say so."
Leander felt really awkward but had to respond that way.
Victoria felt a bit angry, especially since Alexander, who had been resting on her lap the whole way, chuckled. He mumbled, "They wouldn't dare."
"Alexander, don't act crazy just because you're drunk."
Victoria pressed his shoulder, trying to push him away. Alexander suddenly looked up, staring at her blankly, "Who's acting crazy? Anyone who dares not to call you that, I'll fire them."
Those people all depended on their salaries, so naturally, they wouldn't dare go against his wishes.
But she didn't understand why he wouldn't let everyone change the way they addressed her.
Being called 'Mrs. Harrington' used to annoy her.
"Leander, take another car. I'll stay here with her tonight."
Leander agreed and quickly got out of the car.
"Leander, you're just leaving like that?"
"Mr. Harrington instructed it."
Leander's legs were shaking with fear.
"He's drunk. At least help me get him inside."
Alexander said, "If you don't leave now, I'll dock your annual bonus."
Victoria looked down at him in disbelief, and when she looked up again, Leander was already looking for another car.
She angrily looked down and said, "Alexander, what do you want?"
"I want you."
"What do you want from me? We are divorced, remember?"
"Divorced?"
He suddenly laughed, then leaned back into her lap, holding her and mumbling, "I just want you."
Victoria couldn't help but choke up because he suddenly lay still on her lap, his breathing indicating he had fallen asleep.
Victoria sat there quietly, looking at the brightly lit interior.
Later, she called to check on Strawberry and found out that Strawberry was already asleep inside. She tried twice but couldn't move him, so she just sat there without moving.
Alexander seemed to be sleeping soundly, and she couldn't help but look down at him.
Maybe because he was asleep, she dared to look at him quietly.
Why did he drink so much?
Was he so happy drinking with Daisy?
If he was so happy, why did he come back?
Her phone rang. She picked it up and said into the phone, "Ms. Bryant."
"Ms. Kensington, are you with Mr. Harrington now?"
"I..."
"Baby?"
