Chapter 155 An Encounter with Mrs. Harrington of the Harrington Family

She declared her feelings, or lack thereof, with a voice roughened by raw emotion. "I don’t fancy you."

Alexander's eyes darkened at her words, and he could only respond with a rueful chuckle. "Alright, you don't like it, but at least stay and witness everything, clear my name."

"And what if you're not innocent?" she challenged, her tone defiant.

"Then I'll divorce you immediately, no second thoughts," Alexander replied, his voice steady and sure.

His promise seemed to soothe Victoria momentarily, but it wasn't long before her eyes met his again, steel flashing in her gaze. "I'm moving out, and you can't stop me."

"You already moved out," he retorted, a smile playing on his lips that barely concealed his inner turmoil.

His heart was heavy with distress. Peace had become a stranger to him, even in his sleep.

Their relationship had been at a standstill for two years.

He had hoped for a fresh start upon his return.

But it was all a façade...

In a way, this was for the best. It meant they could start anew.

At the moment, all Alexander desired was to keep her stable, to ensure she remained in City A. They had time to figure out the rest.

"So, where to now?" Alexander asked, his voice tentative.

Victoria was jolted back to the present. "Why are you following me?"

Isabella and Edward were still in his office.

"If I don't, what if my wife runs off?" he quipped, trying to lighten the mood.

Victoria looked down, a warmth spreading through her cheeks at the ease with which he referred to her as his 'wife'.

"Can we have dinner together tonight?" he ventured.

"I have plans," Victoria responded, after a moment's hesitation.

"Another date? Isn't that guy in a show now?"

"It's not with Adrian," she replied, her eyes still averted.

Alexander continued to observe her. It wasn't hard to discern whether she truly had plans or was merely rejecting his invitation.

"Alright then," he conceded, a hint of resignation in his voice. He'd play along.

Being turned down on what felt like a first date wounded Alexander's pride, but he couldn't help wondering: could this be their new beginning?

"Can you... stand properly?" Victoria finally exhaled, a breath she'd been holding. He had her pinned against the wall, leaving her feeling almost breathless.

Alexander, coming to his senses, stepped back. However, seeing her flushed cheeks and the slightly swollen lips that he'd kissed, he found it hard to walk away.

"How about another kiss, then?" he teased, his finger tracing her lips.

Victoria instinctively recoiled. "Ah." Her head hit the wall behind her.

"Be careful," he murmured, concern lacing his voice. Alexander's warm palm instantly cushioned the back of her head, rubbing gently. "Does it hurt much?"

Victoria briefly met his gaze before quickly looking away. He seemed genuinely worried about her.

The elevator dinged open.

The employee stationed at the door snapped to attention, "Good day, Mr. Harrington."

The worker stepped aside, catching a glimpse of the girl Alexander had pinned against the wall. A wave of embarrassment and acute panic washed over him as if he'd seen something he wasn't supposed to, and he stuttered out a nervous, "Good day, Secretary."

Alexander firmly took her hand and led her out of the elevator.

Startled, Victoria planted her feet, bracing a hand against the elevator's frame, "What are you doing?"

"We're not working today."

"Not working? Aren't you busy? And first, let go of my hand," Victoria reminded him, her voice strained with tension.

Alexander glanced down at their intertwined hands, his grip tightening, "Not letting go. Come on out."

"I won't."

She was petrified.

The idea of walking out with him, just like that, was absurd.

The whole world would soon be buzzing with speculations about their relationship.

Unbeknownst to her, that was precisely the effect Alexander desired—to make their involvement unmistakable. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder, steering her out, and threatened in a whisper, "Don't make me kiss you right here."

The employee stood frozen, too afraid to speak or look.

Meanwhile, Victoria had no choice but to walk beside Alexander, who suddenly turned to introduce her, "This is Mrs. Harrington of the Harrington family. Please, acquaint yourself."
