Chapter 207 In Pursuit of Her

Benjamin Beaumont found himself in a state of disbelief as he listened to the man beside him. The identity of the "she" in question was unmistakable. If the words had come from Isabella Montgomery, he would not have been so taken aback. Observing Alexander Harrington in such a state of despair, one could not help but ponder if the only person who had truly impacted his life over the years was Victoria Kensington.

Benjamin Beaumont vividly remembered the moment Adrian decided to depart. How could a man who professed indifference towards a woman continually glance back as he walked away?

"So, you're certain that you've fallen for Victoria Kensington?" Benjamin queried, feeling that Alexander needed to face his emotions head-on.

Alexander's countenance, previously shrouded in gloom, finally shifted as he offered a melancholic, albeit wry, smile.

"Why don't you just go see her?" Benjamin suggested, noting Alexander's desolation and recognizing that his heart was elsewhere.

"Sure, I'll leave it to you," Alexander agreed without a moment's hesitation.

Benjamin was taken aback by his swift acquiescence and, with a resigned chuckle, gestured, "Go on, then."

As Benjamin motioned him away, Alexander turned and began to stride off, his long steps eventually accelerating into a run towards the elevator, and then...

Watching him, Benjamin felt a twinge of sorrow. Was the most composed and reserved among them now running for a woman he barely knew? Benjamin considered that it might be time to reevaluate Victoria's significance. She was far more than just Alexander Harrington's wife.

Alexander's car pulled up outside the building, and he walked straight in. The lights were on upstairs; she had to be there. It was past ten at night. After a moment's consideration, he turned back, but when he returned, she was not at her desk. Everything was neatly organized, and then...

Music wafted from another direction - from the break room.

Alexander, holding two boxes in his hand, one of them a cake, overheard her gentle, earnest voice, "This feels nice, but is this word a bit awkward?"

"You think so? Have any suggestions?" came another voice.

In college, her published articles had earned money, so songwriting wasn't a stretch for her. Adrian often sought her advice; she had a knack for it. Plus, she had read the novel on which his current show was based and understood its emotional entanglements.

Less than thirty minutes had passed when Adrian's phone suddenly rang. "What? What happened to Dad? Alright, I'm on my way back."

"What's wrong?"

"My father had a heart attack, I need to fly back to the US immediately."

"Okay."

Victoria Kensington's heart skipped a beat upon hearing the news.

"Wait for me to come back."

Adrian couldn't help but look at her before he left.

"I'm always here."

It was a reassurance from Victoria Kensington, and it was the truth. She had promised to wait for Alexander Harrington until the truth was revealed. Only then could they start a new life together.

She saw Adrian off to the elevator, reminding him to be careful on his journey, before returning upstairs. Was it some vague sense of loss, perhaps for Adrian? She scoffed at herself and silently stepped out of the elevator.

Unexpectedly, just as she reached her desk...

It sounded like footfalls.

Her heart was pounding furiously.

Quickly, she spun around.

A tall and imposing figure stood in the shadows. But his dark eyes were piercing, coldly staring straight at her. As if those eyes were meant to penetrate her heart. She wondered why he was here. Rumor had it he had been at a hotel, celebrating with a bunch of people, and of course, that woman was there too.
