Chapter 699 He Was Here to Take the Child
Alexander's eyes were like, super intense, and he gave this tiny smirk. "Congrats."
"Thanks."
Victoria couldn't figure out what was going on in those deep eyes of his, but she forced a little smile.
She couldn't really smile, not even close.
"Let's get down to business."
Alexander looked at her and suddenly seemed bored. He spoke up.
Victoria's heart skipped a beat. She mentally braced herself, trying to look calm. "What business?"
"You think I came here just to say congrats on your remarriage?"
"Call them back."
Alexander pulled out his phone and leaned forward, placing it on the table in front of her.
Victoria just sat there, staring at him, frozen.
"Make the call. It's getting cold." Alexander's words had a hidden meaning.
Victoria's heart was pounding, unable to follow his command.
Seeing her nervous look, Alexander couldn't help but chuckle. Then he said, "How long do you think you can keep her to yourself now that I know about this?"
Victoria held her breath, trying to stay calm as she looked at him.
He hadn't mentioned Strawberry by name, but he was already talking about her.
Keep her to herself?
Yeah, she did want to keep her to herself.
No, it wasn't just a want.
She had to keep her to herself.
That was the precious kid she had given birth to with great difficulty. Why shouldn't she keep her to herself?
Victoria thought, gripping her hands even tighter.
She had to keep her to herself, but she also knew how powerful the man in front of her was.
Even though they were divorced now, if Alexander wanted to take Strawberry away...
No, she couldn't let him take Strawberry away.
"Thank you very much for taking care of Strawberry for such a long time, but from now on, I will take full responsibility for her life."
If they were destined not to be together, then at least he could be sure that his kid would stay by his side.
"I don't get what you're saying." Victoria lowered her eyes and said.
Alexander smiled faintly but didn't say anything more.
However, Victoria grew more and more anxious. She looked at him and remembered what Adrian had said. She asked, "I heard Ms. Bryant is still chasing after you?"
Alexander's puzzled gaze immediately shot towards her.
"I don't mean to butt in. I just think it's rare to see such a devoted girl these days."
Intimidated by his gaze, she quickly lowered her head.
Alexander stared at her for a long time, his eyes growing colder and more domineering. He added, "You need to understand that you no longer have the right to interfere in my affairs."
"I'm not interfering." Victoria immediately explained.
"Weren't you just trying to interfere? That's crossing the line."
"Fine, I won't cross the line. But isn't it crossing the line for you to come to me?" Victoria got angry. She couldn't stay calm anymore. She stood up and bent over, unable to help but retort.
Alexander fell silent again.
Victoria slowly stood up straight, took a couple of deep breaths to ease the pain, and then calmed down. "You suddenly appeared here, entered my house without my permission, and even went into my bedroom. That's crossing the line."
She turned and walked towards the window.
She felt a tightness in her chest and a faint pain.
She stood there silently, looking outside, worried that Eve and the others might come back at any moment. She turned back and said, "Shouldn't you be leaving?"
"Do you know why I'm here?"
Alexander also stood up, speaking slowly as he walked towards her.
He wasn't in a hurry, but Victoria's heart was tormented by his slow approach.
The snow outside was still falling. Alexander stood in front of her, looking at her for a moment, then suddenly looked behind her.
Victoria wanted to step back, but her arm was already against the window. She looked up at him. "You..."
"I'm waiting," he said softly, looking down at her.
Victoria hoped he wasn't waiting for what she feared.
Her heartbeat was all over the place, and with Alexander so close, his familiar scent made her feel trapped.
Instinctively, she put her hand behind her back, trying to quietly move to the side.
But as soon as she moved slightly, a sharp pain shot through her lower back.
Alexander looked down at her expression and asked, "You okay?"
"Yeah."
Victoria replied, her voice already hoarse.
She just wanted to get out of there.
But Alexander suddenly moved closer.
With just one step, she was immediately terrified, with nowhere to retreat, almost tripping over the step below the window.
"Careful."
Alexander immediately supported her waist and spoke softly.
Victoria's hands awkwardly pressed against the window. Although he caught her, a layer of cold sweat quickly formed on her forehead.
"You..."
"You..."
They spoke at the same time, and then Alexander fell silent, waiting for her to continue.
"Can you help me stand up straight?" Victoria managed to speak.
Alexander looked at her for a few seconds, then carefully helped her stand up straight.
Victoria panted, "Sorry, you should leave."
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yeah, you should go. Frank and Eve are spending the night out and won't be back. If you need to find them, you can contact them directly tomorrow."
Victoria said, taking small steps towards the sofa.
Alexander watched her small figure through the glass.
Thinking about her weight when he caught her, he looked at her again. "Victoria, is there something wrong with your health?"
Victoria froze, her mind buzzing. She turned to look at him. "No."
Alexander stared at her. "I get why you're asking, but you should know that this is the most straightforward way. Once I can't solve the current problem, I will directly..."
He didn't finish, but his eyes told her what he would do.
"I don't get what you're saying, but it's late. Please, Mr. Harrington, leave my house."
Victoria's heart was already in chaos. The only rational thought left in her mind was to get him out of her house.
This time, Alexander didn't stay. He really left.
The snow outside was getting heavier, and a thin layer of snow had already accumulated on the roof of the business car.
Soon, another car arrived.
Victoria saw the headlights and immediately looked out the window.
She was worried it was Frank, but it wasn't their car.
A stranger's Lincoln, then someone got off the car.
Only the driver left.
Alexander was still waiting.
Did he really know?
Would he not give up until he saw Strawberry?
Would he want to take Strawberry away immediately?
Victoria called Frank. "Don't come back. Stay at the hotel."
"Okay," Frank agreed.
He was already at the hotel.
But Alexander was also one of the owners of this hotel.
If Alexander came back, they might run into each other.
Eve and Strawberry had been sleeping on the bed for two hours. When she woke up and saw him sitting on the sofa holding his phone, she couldn't help but get out of bed and walk over, "Are you planning to sit here all night?"
"Not necessarily, but I was planning to lie down and sleep soon."
Frank answered her softly.
"Is Mr. Harrington at Mrs. Harrington's house now?"
Eve asked thoughtfully.
"Yeah."
Frank didn't hide it from her.
"Let's go back."
Eve firmly suggested.
