Chapter 740 Ambiguity

"You don't have to take this call,"

Victoria said, trying to be patient. "Didn't you tell her she could reach out to me if she needed anything? I'm not your ex-wife; I'm your secretary."

Alexander gave her a blank look. When she said she wasn't his ex-wife but his secretary, he wanted to correct her. She wasn't just his secretary. She was his woman.

"What's wrong? You don't look well," Alexander finally asked after staring at her for almost a minute. She looked really pale.

Victoria shook her head, staring at her shoes. She seemed indifferent to everything. "Will you also allow me to take Strawberry back to Rockland Street tonight?" she asked, looking at him hopefully.

Alexander listened to her tired voice and simply said, "Why don't you just stay here to sleep?"

"Our agreement states Rockland Street," she reminded him.

Alexander didn't argue. "I will," he said, his face expressionless.

He could see the determination in her eyes. So, when the elders mentioned inviting certain people to the party, she agreed. The party was for the elders; she was just there to keep them company.

After dinner, Alexander held Strawberry and said, "We should go."

The elders looked up. "Where are you going?" they asked.

"I have an agreement with Victoria. She stays at Rockland Street with Strawberry at night, and you can take care of Strawberry during the day. On weekends, Strawberry stays with me," Alexander explained calmly.

The elders were clearly unhappy. Eloise looked at Victoria. "Victoria, does it have to be this way? We're family; this is your home."

"Grandma, we're divorced. It's not appropriate for me to stay here any longer." Victoria explained patiently.

Eloise lowered her head, upset but not angry. "Do as you wish," she said, walking away without looking back.

"Have you checked on your brother?" Brett asked, knowing they were leaving and wanting to ask Alexander privately but now had to do it openly.

"He's fine. Just a fracture; he'll recover."

"Alright, take it slow on your way back. We won't keep you," Maximus urged them to leave.

After they left, Brett frowned. "Are they really going to separate for good?" he asked.

Arabella was too sad to speak. Later, in their room, she said to Maximus, "I saw a hickey on Victoria's neck. I thought they had reconciled."

"They will. Alexander is starting to accommodate her again. With Victoria's nature, if Alexander accommodates her during this period, she'll definitely be touched," Maximus comforted Arabella, holding her shoulders.

"I hope so," Arabella said, feeling uneasy. Victoria seemed different from before.

Alexander drove Victoria and Strawberry away. At the intersection, Victoria suddenly leaned over. "Alexander, my car is still at Serenade Villa, right?"

"Yes," Alexander said, focusing on the road ahead.

Victoria smiled softly. "Can you take me there? I want to drive my car home."

"I'll turn around at the next intersection. It's too late now," Alexander said.

"Okay," Victoria agreed, sitting back and holding Strawberry.

Alexander drove back to Serenade Villa. As soon as the car entered, the gate behind them slowly closed. Hearing the sound, Victoria instinctively turned to look back. For some reason, she felt a sense of dread. "Can I have your child safety seat?" she asked again.

"Sure," Alexander agreed.

Victoria wondered if he was in a good mood tonight. He seemed quite amiable. She sat back, looking at the sleeping Strawberry in her arms, and gently stroked her hair. For the first time in a while, she felt at ease.

Alexander found Victoria's car in the garage, pulled it out, and parked it next to his. Then he opened her rear car door and turned to look at her.

Victoria was still holding Strawberry, gazing at her car. She hadn't seen it in a long time and missed it, but the child safety seat in his car didn't fit hers.

Alexander asked, "There are two solutions. Do you want to hear them?"

"Okay," Victoria responded immediately. Alexander was so calm tonight.

"First, you..." Before he could finish, snowflakes started to fall. Victoria looked up. It was snowing again.

Through the snow, Alexander saw her gentle expression. Her eyes seemed to hold a sense of longing, but what was she longing for? He wanted to get closer but ended up standing still.

Victoria snapped out of it and looked at him again. "What do you wanna say?"

"You leave Strawberry here tonight and drive home yourself."

"And the second?" Victoria didn't want to go back alone and be away from Strawberry for even one night.

"Second, you stay here for the night. You and Strawberry can sleep in the master bedroom."

Maybe it was the beautiful night that made her feel he had become gentle too. Under the silent night sky, with the wind blowing and snow falling, they stood facing each other.

Victoria's short hair was a bit tousled by the wind. Before Alexander could reach out to hold Strawberry, she took a step back and said with a smile, "I have another solution."

"What?" Alexander felt a pang of emptiness in his heart and had to lower his hand slowly.

"Ask a servant to hold Strawberry and come stay with me for the night," Victoria smiled ingratiatingly at him.

Completely unexpected, Alexander took a few seconds before he smiled faintly, "No way."

He stepped forward and firmly took Strawberry from her arms.

Victoria resisted, but she wasn't as strong as him. Besides, Strawberry was asleep, and it wasn't appropriate for them to fight over the child outside.

"I'll sleep in the children's room with Strawberry," she followed him, speaking softly.

Alexander said nothing, steadily carrying Strawberry into the house. The servants moved quietly, preparing the bed for them.

After Victoria accompanied Strawberry to the children's room, Alexander went to the master bedroom alone. He still turned on the electric blanket first. Actually, he didn't want the electric blanket.

He sat dejectedly on the edge of the bed, hands clasped, elbows resting on his thighs, eyes staring at the floor. He wondered, how could he...

When the door sounded, Alexander turned to look at the entrance.

"I want to talk to you about something."

"Come in."

Victoria walked in but only stood inside the door, near the low cabinet by the wall. Behind her were their photos, but she didn't glance at them. She just negotiated with him as she said, "Can I not attend Strawberry's Welcome Baby Party?"

"Tell me the reason," Alexander asked, then slowly stood up and walked towards her with his long strides.

"We're divorced. I don't want any more rumors about us."

"What rumors?" When he got closer, Victoria's mind became a bit muddled.

Alexander stood in front of her, gently brushing her stray hair before saying, "What rumors?"

"Just think about it." She took a deep breath, afraid their clothes would touch, and was about to leave.

But her waist was suddenly grabbed, and he easily lifted her onto the low cabinet. He leaned in, their foreheads touching, his strong pheromones mingling with her breath, and said in a commanding tone, "Victoria, why don't you just say your worries?"
