Chapter 229 The Inevitability of Abortion
Alexander's constant worry was for her abdomen, his fear of a miscarriage ever-present. He knew that Alexander was biding his time, waiting for the child to be born to conduct a DNA test. Thus, the abortion seemed an unavoidable event. Furthermore, she had no desire to bear Sebastian's child. The thought of it would make her a laughingstock for the rest of her life. She yearned for a man she could hold her head high for, not one who would subject her to ridicule.

Alexander escorted Victoria back to Regal Retreat, bearing her weight as he carried her straight to the master bedroom on the upper floor. Once there, he knelt before her, asking, "Would you prefer to bathe first or apply the medicine?"
"Bath," Victoria decided.
Alexander nodded, "Wait here, I'll prepare the bathwater for you."
Victoria sat in silence on the bed, a peculiar odor emanating from her. Was it the chicken blood the officer had mentioned? Feeling more stable, she lifted her hand to her nose, sniffing as she began to unbutton her shirt. She had worn the same shirt all day at work and hadn't had a chance to change. Normally, she would have remained clean throughout the day, but now... she felt dirty. However, as she unbuttoned her shirt, she remembered him in the bathroom and hastily buttoned it back up, not wanting him to see her in such a state.
Alexander, having filled the bathtub, returned to find her in the midst of buttoning and unbuttoning her shirt. He couldn't help but smile and sigh at the sight. Victoria, hearing the sound, quickly turned towards the bathroom. Her face flushed as she saw him standing by the wall, a wave of pain washing over her.
She had been beaten because she believed her words had caused Isabella's miscarriage. After all, it was a child. But her thoughts had changed. How could Isabella have miscarried so easily? Maybe... Her gaze fell on him again, wondering what he was thinking. She recalled his words about waiting for the child's birth to prove his innocence. Now, there was no need to wait. Could they expedite their divorce? She yearned to escape this place of controversy. It wasn't for her. She preferred a simpler life, going to work and returning to her own home. That was freedom.
The thought of leaving soon brightened her mood, although leaving Alexander would be tinged with regret. But who didn't have regrets in life? She decided to let go, for nothing was more important than freedom.
After a while, he broke the silence, "It's ready."
"Huh?" Victoria was brought back to reality.
Alexander smiled, amused by her dazed expression. He lifted her from the bed, "Go take a shower."
Victoria blushed, "I can do it myself."
"Hmm, if you need help, I can..."
She didn't want his help. Alexander, however, misread her thoughts, assuming she was merely shy. Her blush whenever he was near was evidence enough. Her shyness only made him want to tease her more, to make love to her... but he decided against voicing his thoughts.
He carried her into the bathroom, quickly asking, "Are you sure you can manage?"
She nodded obediently.
"Then I'll wait outside. Is half an hour enough?"
She nodded again.
Alexander gently set her down, patting her head, "Good girl, call me if you need anything. I'll be waiting outside."
She wished he wouldn't wait outside that he would go a bit further away. Once Alexander left, he did distance himself. Hearing movement from the bathroom, he assumed she was locking the door, and he had to restrain himself from returning.
There were more pressing matters to attend to. "Find the person and beat him until he admits it," Alexander instructed over the phone. He ended the call and dialed another number, "Could you do me a favor?"
