Chapter 77 Pretend to Have a Harmonious Relationship in front of the Elders
"You're up? Weren't you planning to sleep in?" Arabella abruptly turned around.
Victoria, seeing who had entered, stood up. "Good morning, Dad."
"Take a seat. What happened just now? How come Alexander left in his pajamas?" Maximus asked curiously.
"Hmph, I don't know how you two raised your son. You're always reluctant to discipline him, and now look at what he has become. Running out in pajamas, is he twelve? Alexander used to do this kind of thing a lot when he was younger, but it became less frequent after college," Mr. Harrington Sr. remarked. He initially thought his grandson was now quite mature, but now, he was having some doubts about his own thoughts.
--
Victoria ate breakfast early and then returned to the office building with Alexander's clothes. At that moment, Alexander was alone on the sofa when he heard a knock at the door. "Come in."
Victoria gently pushed the door open but hesitated to enter.
It was only when the person inside spoke from a distance, "Come over, let's talk," that she stepped forward.
Looking into the room, somewhat hesitant, she asked, "Talk about what?"
Alexander didn't respond and just looked at her intently. With an overly serious expression, Victoria entered the room with the box in her hands.
"The clothes you asked for," she said softly, placing the box on the table next to the sofa.
Alexander set down his phone, propped his head on the sofa armrest, and flashed her with a mysterious smile. "What did you tell the elders?"
"I didn't say anything," Victoria replied, wondering what else she could have said.
"You didn't say anything, but Grandpa wants to punish me?" Alexander questioned.
Victoria's heart skipped a beat.
At that moment, she was truly afraid and wanted to rush over to protect him. But... she never got the chance.
Standing there with lowered eyes and a soft voice, she said, "I think maybe Mom noticed that I wasn't in a good mood."
"So, you forgot that we agreed to pretend to have a harmonious relationship in front of the elders?" Alexander continued to ask.
Pretend to have a harmonious relationship?
Today morning, she had even forgotten that she was in the Harrington Family's old mansion, let alone the concept of harmony.
"You said you wanted to talk to me, what about?" Victoria redirected the conversation.
"Sit down and let's talk," Alexander said, moving his legs off the sofa to make room. Victoria hesitated but eventually sat in the spot he had cleared.
Alexander smiled wryly, realizing it didn't matter which sofa they chose.
He stood up, sat next to her, and leaned against the back of the sofa, quietly observing her profile.
She seemed tense when she was with him.
"Relax a bit," he suggested.
"Huh?" Victoria looked at him in confusion. What was he talking about? She was distracted or perhaps too tense to focus.
"Do you remember when we first met?" He asked suddenly.
Victoria stared at him, not understanding why he was bringing up the past.
"Remember when Dad and I personally went to pick you up at the airport? Don't you recall?" He continued.
She heard him but couldn't muster the courage to meet his gaze.
Lowering her eyes, she remained silent and began nervously fiddling with her fingers.
How could she forget?
