Chapter 249 He Doesn't Allow Anyone to Challenge His Authority
A revelation dawned, that even in a state of inebriation, mistakes could be crafted.
Simultaneously, in the room above, the film playing reached its crescendo. Victoria found herself at her limit as she whispered a timid request, "Can I leave now?"
"Pardon?"
"I'm tired," she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.
Alexander found her constant melancholy disconcerting. Lifting her chin gently with his hand, he studied her face, inquiring, "Does my company make you sleepy?"
Silence.
Victoria felt a sting of provocation. He had held her close throughout the night. What more could he possibly want?
"Am I not allowed to feel tired?" she retorted, her voice still soft.
"Victoria, why did you agree to marry me?" Alexander detected the hint of rejection in her gaze and asked her in a hushed tone.
"I want to go home," Victoria declared, leaning forward to place her plate on the table, preparing to rise.
"Victoria, answer me. Did you fall in love with me?" Alexander questioned.
Just as she was about to leave, Alexander held her back, pinning her to the sofa. His grip was firm but not forceful, just enough to keep her from fleeing. He wanted to know her true feelings.
"Did you...did you fall in love with me?" Victoria countered.
Why did he expect such a confession from her? And why was he holding onto her so desperately? Was it because he had discovered his love for her after signing the divorce papers? They both knew that was a far-fetched notion.
He had never loved her, just as she had misinterpreted her feelings for him from the start.
"No," Alexander answered.
Not long after, she got the answer she wanted. Alexander said no.
"Then why do you continue to restrain me?" Now, it was her turn to ask.
Silence.
Why indeed?
Alexander stared straight at her until the shrill ring of a phone interrupted their standoff. This time, it was Victoria's.
The caller was none other than Adrian.
Alexander saw the name first, and memories of them lounging on the beach, engrossed in laughter and conversation, flooded his mind. He tightened his grip on her waist, declaring, "How could I possibly fall in love with you? At most, I just wanted to sleep with you."
Silence.
So, it all boiled down to that. Victoria averted her gaze, trying to remain calm, "I won't sleep with you."
"Tell me the reason."
"You're unworthy," she declared, her voice soft yet resolute.
Upon hearing the words, "You're unworthy," a sinister smile played on Alexander's lips.
"Then who is? Adrian?"
It was only then that Victoria turned her head to look at her phone lying just above her. As she reached for it, he seized her wrists and pinned them above her head. He then proceeded to answer the call.
A slightly raspy voice echoed from the other end, "Vicky, I'll be back tomorrow."
"She is your sister-in-law, not your Vicky," Alexander replied casually.
Victoria shot him a look, silently pleading for him to hold his tongue.
But Alexander merely smirked, lowering his head to suck on her neck.
"Mmm." The pain was intense. The suffocating pain quickly drew a cry from her.
"Alexander, don't bully her."
"I'm just trying to quickly give you a nephew, isn't that right, honey?"
Alexander continued to shower Victoria's neck with kisses.
"You clearly don't love her. Please, brother, just leave Vicky alone. She's already suffered enough," Adrian begged.
"Save your sympathy for someone who needs it," Alexander replied.
Upon hearing Adrian's words, Alexander's annoyance flared. He pinched Victoria's leg sharply.
"Ah, what are you doing?" Victoria questioned him.
"What? Do you want your younger brother to overhear his brother and sister-in-law having sex?"
Victoria found herself at a loss for words.
Her anger was real, as was the desire to hit him, but her hands were bound, rendering her immobile.
"Hang up the phone yourself." Alexander said to the person on the other end of the line, then abruptly lifted Victoria from the couch and made his way upstairs with her in his arms. He would never tolerate anyone challenging his authority, not now, not ever.
