Chapter 640 Suspecting She Takes Birth Control Pills
"Don't listen to what others say." Alexander said seriously.
"Okay." Victoria looked at him, and suddenly her heart softened.
They only trusted each other.
When Alexander held her hand, she instinctively held his back.
"Do you want to try the food I cook?" Victoria asked.
"What kind of food?"
"I'm not much of a cook, you know. But today, I decided to show you my cooking skills"
Victoria had already stood up, naturally letting go of his hand and walking away.
Alexander was still sitting there, feeling a bit uneasy, when he suddenly realized his palm was empty. But she was going to cook for him, so he looked at her back with a doting smile. He thought, 'It is said that a woman willing to cook for a man is the most direct sign of her love for him.
'But didn't Victoria say that the only thing she could cook well was toast?'
However, Alexander's expression gradually became serious again.
He thought, 'She has told me to come back early, saying there is something we need to do together.
'Could it be that she met someone outside?'
Alexander thought about it and then called Frank on his phone.
"The pharmacy?" Alexander frowned, hung up, and immediately got up to walk towards the kitchen.
"This is pretty good. You'll feel fine after eating it."
As he entered the dining room, he heard Jenny's voice.
"I've had it a few times and felt pretty good," Victoria mumbled, stuffing something into her mouth.
"What are you eating?" Alexander suddenly stepped forward and grabbed Victoria's wrist tightly.
Victoria looked at him with something in her mouth, puzzled by his sudden seriousness and anger.
Victoria still gently chewed and swallowed the food in her mouth.
"Mr. Harrington, Mrs. Harrington is taking calcium supplements," Jenny said, noticing something off and quickly stepping in to explain.
Alexander, holding her wrist, glanced down at the calcium tablets Jenny was holding and immediately softened his grip.
Victoria swallowed her tablet before responding slowly, her eyes full of curiosity. "Why, what do you think I'm taking?"
Alexander looked at her for a moment, then opened the bottle of calcium tablets to confirm its contents before meeting her gaze again. "Are you feeling unwell? Why the sudden need for calcium?"
"I've been having some leg cramps lately, but what did you think I was taking?" Victoria insisted quietly.
She couldn't shake the feeling of being misunderstood.
Alexander studied her for another moment, then said softly, "We'll talk about it later."
He thought, 'We've been married for just over a month, and I haven't taken any precautions.
'In the office today…
'Could she be secretly taking birth control pills? I've heard that women nowadays often delay having kids, especially if Victoria's a celebrity.
'She wouldn't do that.'
Alexander had been quite sure of it then. But now, doubts had started creeping in.
He let go of her wrist and headed outside, while Victoria remained inside, lost in thought.
At dinner, both of them remained silent.
Alexander picked up his chopsticks and asked, "Which one did you make?"
"That, um, the Sweet and Sour Chicken," Victoria replied slowly, glancing at the dishes on the table.
She had felt odd earlier, which had dampened her mood for cooking.
Alexander took a bite of the Sweet and Sour Chicken and looked at her, his expression serious for a moment before he quickly masked it.
Victoria noticed his reaction and asked, "Is it not good? Too sour?"
"No," Alexander replied, contemplative. He took another bite, followed by a large gulp of water.
He ate with his usual grace, but tonight, he seemed to be eating more than usual.
After dinner, Alexander went to take a phone call. While Jenny was clearing the table, she tasted Victoria's cooking and couldn't help but frown. "Mrs. Harrington, did you add a lot of sugar?"
"I didn't add any sugar," Victoria said, walking over to taste it herself, only to wrinkle her own nose in surprise.
She thought, 'How strange. I've tasted it earlier and haven't noticed anything off. Why is it suddenly so sweet now?
'No wonder Alexander's expression has been odd. But if it was this sweet, why had he eaten so much of it?,
Victoria felt a bit better inside but let out a resigned sigh as she stepped outside.
Alexander had just finished his call and was sipping from a bottle of mineral water when she approached him. "Why are you drinking mineral water?" she asked.
"Thirsty," he said, looking for an excuse.
He seemed completely serious, showing no hint of dissatisfaction with the meal.
Victoria sighed again in resignation. "I mistook sugar for salt. Sorry about that. I'll make sure it doesn't happen again."
Alexander, seeing her earnest apology, couldn't help but chuckle softly, his low voice warm and soothing. "If it's the same amount, sugar's better than salt."
Victoria thought for a moment and had to admit he had a point.
Despite this, she was still a bit upset. She looked up at Alexander and, noticing his calm demeanor, asked, "What was up with you earlier? You stormed into the kitchen asking what I was eating. What did you think I was having?"
"Birth control pills," he said, after a thoughtful pause.
"Birth control pills?"
"Yep."
Alexander was remarkably composed. He thought he shouldn't have doubted her in the first place.
Victoria felt an unexpected pang of hurt but moved to sit on the couch, resting her head back and supporting herself with her hands on either side. Her gaze was soft, not filled with anger but with a touch of vulnerability. "If I were taking birth control pills, would I still be waiting for now?"
"I know I was being paranoid. I apologize."
"I've been back from the island for seven days now. It's too late for that," Victoria responded.
Alexander moved to sit beside her. "What can I do to make it up to you?"
"I don't want to forgive you."
She wasn't exactly heartbroken, but dwelling on it didn't seem worthwhile.
"Okay, how about you're grounded from the bed for three days?"
"What?" Alexander's eyes clouded with frustration.
Victoria got up and ran upstairs from the other side. Alexander, feeling a pang of emptiness, wanted to reach out but missed her until he noticed her bag left behind.
Suddenly, she was rushing down the stairs again, moving quickly.
Instinctively, Alexander grabbed her bag and held it on his lap, waiting silently.
"Don't touch my bag," Victoria said, walking forward.
She couldn't reach her bag, but Alexander managed to catch her. "I won't touch the bag."
He set the bag aside but pulled her into his lap, holding her in a loose embrace that she couldn't break free from.
Alexander asked, "I know this is serious. I shouldn't have doubted you. If it helps, I'll make you breakfast every time I'm free. How about that?"
"I refuse."
Victoria stayed in his embrace but turned to grab her bag.
Noticing her unusual attachment to the bag, Alexander quickly placed his hand over it. "What's in this bag?"
"Who knows? Maybe some birth control pills."
She huffed, answering him with a touch of childishness.
