Chapter 242 Must I Be Left with Nothing to Satisfy You?

"Must I be left with nothing to satisfy you?" Isabella's voice echoed in the room. Victoria felt a shiver run down her spine, akin to the sting of a hornet, as Isabella's grip tightened around her wrist. She yearned to break free, but her strength failed her.

"Isabella, let her go," Alexander's voice cut through the tension. He was back in the room, his hand forcefully prying Isabella's grip from Victoria's wrist.

Once free, he drew Victoria into the safety of his arms. "Sebastian, take her away," he commanded, his tone brooking no argument.

Sebastian complied, lifting Isabella from the ground.

"No, you loved me once. You're casting me aside just because I slept with him after a drunken night? It was an accident, and besides, Victoria killed that child," Isabella protested, clinging to the belief that Victoria was responsible for the death of her child. It seemed as though the entire Montgomery family shared this conviction.

In her agitation, Isabella pushed Sebastian away, stumbling and falling to the ground in a pitiful heap.

"What do you mean Victoria killed your child? Isabella, you better clarify this," Madam demanded, her patience wearing thin.

Isabella, her face a mask of confusion, turned to respond, but Madam cut her off. "I warn you, if there's even a hint of falsehood in your words, I won't forgive you, even if the Montgomery family owns half of City A," Madam threatened, her fury palpable as she stormed out of the room.

"Grandmother, please listen to me..."

"Or would you prefer the whole city to learn of your mother's sordid climb to the top?" Madam's words, spoken in anger, hung heavily in the air.

Isabella fell silent, her protests dying on her lips.

Despite Isabella's silence, Madam's irritation lingered. "My granddaughter-in-law may be without family, but no one in the Harrington family is allowed to insult her, especially not a woman of your ilk," she declared, her words not vulgar, but they carried a sting that left Isabella feeling humiliated.

"Take her away," Alexander instructed Sebastian once more. Sebastian, noting Isabella's silence, bent down to lift her from the ground. This time, she offered no resistance.

Alexander turned his attention to Victoria, who was nestled in his arms, seeming lost in thought. "Vicky?" he queried, drawing her attention. She looked up at him, her soft gaze ensnared by his intense, dark eyes.

Victoria still held the bouquet of flowers in her arms. Noticing her pale complexion, Madam swiftly changed the subject. "Such beautiful lilies, sweetheart. Are they for me?"

"Yes, Grandma, you..."

"It's alright. Let's talk inside," Madam interrupted, gently extricating Victoria from Alexander's hold and leading her into the hospital room.

Victoria was deeply moved by Madam's defense of her against Isabella. The thought of leaving soon filled her with a sense of reluctance. But she knew she had to let nature take its course.

Soon after, Madam sat on the bed, her hand slapping the mattress as she demanded, "Why don't we just publicly reveal Vicky's identity?"

"Either you reveal it directly, or we get a divorce. What's the point of keeping Vicky a secret every day?" Madam continued her line of questioning.

The word "divorce" made Victoria's heart skip a beat. She glanced at Alexander, who returned her gaze. Unable to hold his gaze, she reached out to gently stroke Madam's back. "Grandma, we don't need to go public. Please, don't be angry."

"Silly girl, I'm just upset seeing you wronged. When I get home, I'll have your grandfather give him a good beating," Madam comforted Victoria.

"Ah? Grandma, let's not resort to violence to solve the problem," Victoria protested, her heart fluttering with anxiety.

"You don't understand. Without violence, we can't control your husband," Madam retorted, a mischievous glint in her eyes for Alexander.

Victoria cast an anxious glance at Alexander, confused by his silence. She realized that she wouldn't be able to protect him in this situation.
